I haven't made a kaleidoscope quilt because in general I don't like them, but yours is beautiful. I love how you kept the color families together and made it look cohesive. Great video!
Love how your imagination works. I also often fall asleep with plans and visions of quilts running through my head. I’m planning one of these for me and one for my daughter. I’ve made kaleidoscope quilts but not with a panel. 24:35 .Thanks also for your wonderful videos. FYI… I first learned Kaleidoscopes from a book titled Stack and Whack Quilts by Bethany Reynolds’s.
So beautiful! You made it clear how to join the hexies to the panel! I had wondered about that! Thanks so much! I might try this on a smaller panel first!
I simply love this!!!! I had planned on doing a quilt for a coworker who loves being near the ocean, and this will be perfect for her! 😃 Wish me well in getting it completed as well and as easy as you made it look! 🤩🌟🌟🌟🌟
Good Golly, this is genius! I see so many panels I like but wasn't sure what to make with them that wasn't too boring. I can't wait to try my hand at this type of kaleidoscope quilt. I just found your channel, love your approach and have subscribed 😊
I use panels for all sorts of things. My last one I made used 4 panels to make a stack and wack with 4" blocks. Instead of wedges, the squares looked really cool and so fast. That was a Teresa Down Under design.
I just looked up that tutorial based on your comment. What a beautiful quilt she made with just four patches. I’m going to give that a try. Many thanks for telling us about it.
Who'd a thunk?!? That makes a beautiful quilt! I have some panels I want to try this with. Unfortunately, I will have to work with a coordinated fabric, but I love the concept. Thank you for such a unique idea!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I FOUND IN MY STASH PCS. OF A KALEISCOPE QUILT THAT I STARTED BACK IN 2003....IN A CLASS.....NO INSTRUCTIONS & AFTER SEWING IT TOGETHER ACROSS ROWS, NOT DOWN AS YOU SHOW, .i SEE I PUT IT TOGETHER INCORRECTLY DO I HAVE TO RIP IT ALL OUT??? WHAT I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE, WHICH IS WHY I GOT ON YOU TUBE...WAS HOW TO I FINISH THE TOP & BOTTOM WITH THE JAGGED EDGES...YOU MADE THAT LOOK SO EASY!!!
I could see using the bottom of each kaleidoscope block that touched on the panel being turned under and attaching it to the panel. Then it would look like the kaleidoscopes were bleeding into the panel. May have to give this a try. Very cool.
I love the blending. It's so cool. I would have never thought that panel would result in such a lovely quilt. I'm working on my 1st Kaleidoscope quilt. I used Petal ruler instead of triangle. It results in scalloped outer edge. I turned the edge with interfacing & hope to press it to 14" blocks, then I'll sew them together. I've made a few stupid mistakes. (Cut through seam line twice. Ugh. Alot of work. Thanks for your great ideas. Wish me luck!
This is very interesting. I never thought about using panels instead of yardage. The videos I’ve seen all use yardage and a lot of it! (6 yards is what I’ve mostly seen.) Your discussion of the shape of the panel was important and I need to think about that more. If you hadn’t had a specific place to hang the piece do you think you might have changed the proportions? Maybe that’s too open-ended a question? I’m just trying to get a feel for the things to think about in choosing a panel. Thank you for sharing your creativity and sheer enjoyment in working with fabric.
In retrospect, I could've lessened the width and added more on the top & bottom. I did have about 5 hexagons left over. I had way more hexi's because I cut the whole 6 panels into hexagons, but the actual panel I cut down, so I had more hexi's than panel if that makes sense.
I attempted a kaleidoscope quilt with panels as my 4th quilt. (Big mistake) My vision was to build it around an extra panel but I couldn’t figure out how to join the top and bottom jagged edge so it sitting unfinished in my sewing. Thanks to your great tutorials it will hopefully be done by the end of the week🤞
Wow!! What an awesome twist on the kaleidoscope quilt! I'm dreaming of making a kaleidoscope quilt, and this version is so stunning!
You can do it! Kaleidoscope quilts are my favorite type of quilt to make. I am making one right now.
It is so easy to get confused when sewing the columns together. I appreciate your detailed explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Making one of these is on my list for sure! It turned out so lovely! I do like the idea of using panels over yardage. Well done!
Thanks so much! 😊

That would be so amazing! Hopefully in a couple years that will be a reality!

Wonderful! If your 'rows' are horizontal instead of vertical, that's okay. It just depends on which way the straight seams go.
That wis absolutely amazing! Gorgeous!
Thank you so much!

I thought about doing that as well. I think that would look amazing depending on the panel.
Has anyone told you today you’re a marvel? You are!
😆 no they haven’t. I appreciate that you took the time to tell me that. Thank you🥰

What an amazing technique
Looks fantastic! After two years of quilting, i still haven’t mastered the 1/4” seam. This looks hard but its beautiful!

Nice I have ordered a panel so waiting on that I thought I should measure my panel before I cut strips to work out how big to do.
Gorgeous. I would love to do one with sea life.
A sea-life one would be so colorful & amazing. I have seen panels like that...

You’re welcome ☺️
This is so beautiful. What kind of math did you do to figure out your strip size in relation to the hexies fitting so perfectly around the panel?
I measured the row of hexies, then cut the panel to fit . Don't forget to add the 1/4" seam allowance.
Awesome!
Where did you buy your panel? That’s beautiful
I got them from Missouri Star Quilt Company.
