Unburying My Cache: Did It Survive Snow, Flooding, and Extreme Weather?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2024
- I buried a simulated cache of supplies 4 months ago, and despite rain, snow, and field flooding, the supplies fared extremely well with no issues. In this video, we also discuss why you would cache supplies and what items you may want to place in a cache. Make sure you're burying supplies along your SHTF bugout route.

Why Cache Supplies?
Caching supplies is a critical strategy in prepping for several reasons:
Redundancy: Having multiple caches ensures that if one is compromised, you still have others.
Security: Supplies buried underground are less likely to be discovered or stolen.
Convenience: Placing caches along your bugout route provides you with essential resources when you need them most.
Accessibility: If you can't reach your primary stockpile, a cache can be a lifesaver.
Items to Place in a Cache
When deciding what to place in a survival cache, consider the following essentials:
Non-perishable Food: Canned goods, freeze-dried meals, energy bars.
Water and Purification: Bottled water, water purification tablets, and filters.
First Aid Supplies: Bandages, antiseptics, pain relievers, prescription medications.
Tools and Equipment: Multi-tools, knives, fire starters, duct tape.
Clothing and Shelter: Space blankets, ponchos, extra clothing.
Communication: Radios, batteries, signal mirrors.
Documentation: Maps, emergency contact information, copies of important documents.
Miscellaneous: Cash, hygiene supplies, ammunition.
Our Cache Unburial Process
Locate the Cache: Using GPS coordinates and landmarks, we pinpoint the cache location.
Excavation: Carefully dig to avoid damaging the contents.
Inspection: Check the integrity of the container and the condition of the supplies.
Review and Reburial: Discuss what worked well, any issues encountered, and rebury the cache if needed.
What We Found
Despite the adverse weather conditions, our cache contents remained dry and intact. This demonstrates the importance of using durable, waterproof containers and properly sealing items before burying them. The supplies included:
Food and Water: All consumables were still in perfect condition.
Tools: No signs of rust or damage.
Clothing: Remained dry and usable.
First Aid Supplies: Still sterile and effective.
Tips for Effective Caching
Choose the Right Location: Ensure it's accessible but discreet.
Use Quality Containers: Waterproof and airtight to protect against the elements.
Mark the Location: Use GPS and natural landmarks to find your cache easily.
Regular Maintenance: Check and rotate supplies periodically.

I literally just watched your cache video and wondered when I would get to see it dug up haha
So funny intro
I appreciate your calm, thinking approach to preparedness' and bushcraft. How refreshing to not have fear as the motivator to making sure one is doing all they can to ensure continuance. Thanks.
I appreciate that!
Love that you had a follow up video. Thanks for always teaching me valuable lessons
Viking here, I love your vids! Great vid as always, subscriber of Survival Dispatch and SOOTCH, some of my favorite guys!
Thanks!!
Good follow up video. I think the vitamin milk needs 4 or 5 cups of water. So, you had it a little rich.
First off thanks for putting this together, and then digging it up again. I hope to put one together, only I will use a much larger container. In 1984 had my house burn to the ground. Things, I would put in my cache would be pictures of my family, a Bible, three canteens of water, and all the things you hadin there, plus a poncho, cordage, multi tool, and anything else I could think of until the container was full. Then start on a second one.
Great ideas on what you’d store in your cache. We’ll have to add the Bible.
Nice video. Been watching for years. PJ told me to tell you I'm also a Viking.
Thanks for watching!
Viking here too, shared with over a dozen friends 👍😊
Awesome thank you!

Good stuff. Our Viking Chieftain, Joe Fox sent me! Used to seeing you on Survival Dispatch...
Welcome!
I think that having a cache has really become more popular as people see how useful it can be. One could keep stuff in a storage facility or stash it in a shed or have things in another person's home but if you can find a spot that nobody will disturb, you put it in the ground and it'll stay there forever until you want to dig it up
New subscriber here. I'm on the SD channel but didn't know about this one. Sent over by PJ at Viking Preparedness.

See ya on the next one
Great Video, I also come from Viking Preparedness. Just clicked on the subscribe button.
Welcome aboard!
when cashing underground the openings should be on top. when openings are on bottom the water table will infiltrate when rising
you can try a ziptie to close the bag tightly on top of the bucket to the side of it, not in the center. and fill the creases with caulking and knot the bag on the side of the bucket
Interesting experience
Very!
Thanks
I have a canteen and cup (except with a cup Handel that folds under the bottom of the cup) and a pouch that is OD green canvas I think.
Subbed! Thanks!
Welcome!
PJ Viking referred. Sub recommended. Interesting blade.
Welcome!
Good Evening ! I was here when you put it in the ground. There's Maggie. Temperature difference, when it first went in the ground ? Use Silicone to preserve rubber. TAKE CARE..
Not sure what the temp was. Probably similar.
You should try and bury it for a whole year - and maybe add a few more items that would spoil if they got wet :)
Good video, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Much appreciated
I said it on the other vid, NO AXLE GREASE, for long term storage. Only use a silicone grease on the rubber seals, a DIAELECTRIC SILICONE GREASE is the best. 4 months wasn't long enough to breakdown the rubber seals, but if you went a few years, you would have lost the seal. As any petroleum based product will destroy a rubber seal given time.

I want one of those cutting thingamajigs!!
It’s pretty awesome! 🤣
When deer mark them trees with their antlers it’s called a rub. They rub the velvet off their antlers. You tell a hunter to look for the scrapes he’s gonna be looking for scrapes which have nothing to do with trees. What the Hell, a scrape son is a literal scraping the dirt and marking it with pee. I hope this helps
Hey boss, thanks for sharing this video. is the hat you are wearing OnThree merch? if not where can I source one of those covers? Thanks!
Go to TRC outdoors. They will hook you up! Tell em Kason sent you.

Thanks!! No I don’t do patreon at the moment. I put most of my efforts into UA-cam. Juggling all the social media stuff is a big job. Thanks so much for watching.

What’s up with the kydex sheath for the ULU. I would buy one of those for my ulu.
Thanks. That was one that I made for my personal ulu. I don’t currently sell them but I may consider it.
@@ONThree Do you have any ULU's? Not sure if you have a website for your store.
Is the Ulu (sp?)TSA-friendly?
Babe we need to add a bible to our next buried cache
