Roy Keane: So Much More Than a 'Hard Man'
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- A lot of people seemed surprised when Roy Keane made our list of the 100 greatest footballers of all time. Over the years, the Manchester United legend has been caricatured and portrayed as a footballing 'hard man', so today HITC Sevens tries to do justice to a Premier League great.

Roy Keane Vs Juve UCL Semi Final 2nd Leg
That's what we are talking about.
Also for Ireland against Holland to qualify for the 2002 world cup. He was Immense!
Roy Keane will always be one of the best midfielders to ever play the game of football, let alone just the premier league, he’s amazing
Used to watch him week in week out in 90s and early 2000s. He was easily the most influential player throughout that period. It's a shame history seems to have forgotten this
Sky Sports can't make a highlight reel of consistency, reliability, smart passing choices, and defensive positioning, so they can only use him for his inflammatory interviews or hardman showreel. Without watching all of United's games in the 90s it's impossible to know how great he was unfortunately.
7 overrated players
7 underated players
7 players that had to stop playing because of tragedies (horror injuries, deaths, prison sentances, drugs)
Seamus Coleman came back from that disgraceful tackle in the wales match so he should be one of them
@@dazza6741 he never said 7 players who came back from horror injuries...
@@polishjerry06 yeah but he is a very influential player
Jayden Demingo Garry Ablett would top that list
Like iker casillas
Can you do a video on Denis Irwin please?, we adore Keane here in Cork and see him as a god! But Denis Irwin is always a forgotten hero of ours. Fergie said Irwin was the first name down on the team sheet each week because he was so reliable. One of the best LB in the premier league as well.
Loved this video by the way. You make enjoyable videos.
Irwin was my favourite
8 out of 10 dennis
Irwin was a great player when comparing his position with others at his time in his position. Keane is an all time legend. My guess is Irwin is a lovely fella Keane probably has no friends or little and couldn’t care less.
Dennis Irwin was ahead of his time for a full back, he was great defensively and going forward and could take free kicks, a brilliant footballer 🇮🇪
I remember seeing Uniteds top players, some of the best players in both the Prem and in all of Europe, give the ball to Irwin for penalties and also some free kicks. Cantona, Scholes, Giggs, Van Nistelrooy, Beckham, Keane, Kanchelskis, Ince, Robson, etc all gave up the ball to Irwin.
What idiots don’t know how good Keane was??? The guy was the man back in the day.
I can’t believe I’m saying this as a LFC but Roy Keane was amazing...he’s the only united player I don’t completely despise
United fans can't return the compliment. All Liverpool players in it's history are total fukn kunts.
@@TheKingkeano not true. Fowler, Gerrard, Alonso, prime Torres were all beasts. And it's a crime that Dalglish never won a Ballon d'or.
Don't worry mate...Stevie-G cited him as his fav too...
Whilst I completely agree with you, I honestly think Keane enjoys the fact that people just think of him as a midfield enforcer, hard man and leader rather than one of the all-time greats. Whether that's because he's uncomfortable being thought of that way or it's a narrative which helps him as a coach or pundit I don't know.
yeah, I think he does lol
Arguably the most complete midfielder who played during the premiership era
Thank you HITC for doing this... Keane is my favourite player ever and for me the greatest captain and player the Premiere league has ever seen. It's disappointing to see him being overlooked for all the greatest ever teams. Please do continue this type of videos. Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player to play in the Premiere league and Roy Keane is the greatest premiere league player ever.
What about Henry????
@@CYashYadunathAlva I won't judge if you choose henry. He was brilliant too.
Just puts it into perspective when players like Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Neville, Solksjaer etc. say how good he was. He excelled in a team full of exceptional players
Keano ❤️
Keane was a once in a generation kind of talent.
I'm a Liverpool fan and have to admit he was a complete force of nature. He was awesome. Never took a back step and drove forward at every opportunity
That's coz the English pundits are biased against Irish. Keane was uncomparable, you're assessment is 100% bang on and I appreciate your honesty and wisdom, very good video! You have credibility after this in my eyes, most these kids don't have a clue!
Nope, back when Keane was at his peak, all the pundits agreed he was just about the best player in the league, maybe the best in Europe in 98-99. You wouldn't find many or any English pundits who disagreed.
The title says it all, Keane was special. He is one of the greatest midfielders to play the game.
Keene was our best player .when he left us I cried .how can united be the same without him.he was the force our inspiration...
The team was arguably better when he left
Keane's best individual performance was for Ireland vs Holland in the 2nd playoff game for the 2002 world cup, he was the best player on the park,
One thing i will remember about Keane is when he joined Celtic. I was unable to get Nakamura on my shirt as they had run out of K's
Take that UA-cam! I got here before your notification.
But it's true, people not being notified of videos being uploaded is a significant issue affecting everyone. Fix this UA-cam!

FD did it if you were wondering
@@nicholasphilander4128 ik but HITC 7 do it better
Team FD but still like hitc
Roy keane was a beast. A consistent part of man utd midfield for 10 years ahead of everyone.. also most decorated captain
Watching him and Scholes boss the midfield was a joy to behold back in the day
There are people (usually fans who never played at any level) who don't understand the value of a Roy Keane, then there are his peers who played with and against him at some of the biggest clubs in the world who say he would be number 1 on their teamsheet every time.
Who do you believe!
Couldn’t agree more mate, good video ❤️ and HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATE
I like this more Copa90 style of video that you're doing. Really great you guys are branching out and introducing more variety.
When Roy Keane is commentating he speaks the truth
These videos have a much more personal feel since the switch from list based content, and are much more entertaining too. Please continue to do these!
Keane's the most consistent top-level player I've seen in 40 years. He never gave the ball away and his passing and technical skills were vastly underrated. Always looked to play forward too.
Dennis Irwin another player completely overlooked spot a common theme
Hope you had a great birthday man.... Love the content, keep it up
Cheers Alex.
Iam a liverpool fan, I know how good he is!
If Liverpool had Roy Keane rather than that pretty boy Redknapp. Liverpool would have one EPL.
Or Gerrard
Not underrated by anyone who played with him or against or watched if you understand the game.
Agreed 100% dagnut
Legend, wish more footballers were like him, the game would still be watchable.
Great video buddy spot on.
Another great video! This and the Hungary video are concepts you should look into further (although I think you already are.) Keep up the fantastic work!
Hi Brendan, I'd love to do more of these type of videos, just need lots of people to watch them!
We need more players like Keane, Gattuso, Vieira and Stam today
Keano is a legend...Best midfielder ever..
Keane was a driving force because he’ll kick your head in if you loose 😂
Ireland’s greatest ever player is Keano
With respect, I would say McGrath but Keane would be a very very close second.
Nah
@irish rover At club level, sure Keano was head and shoulders above but McGrath just pipped him at international level. Considering McGrath was a very heavy drinker and hardly ever trained, he was amazing. Two world class players, who we could do with now. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree!!!
**I'M NOT A DUB**
Yes, but Liam Brady, McGrath and Jonny Giles are probably close to equal.
There will never be another Keano and that saddens me so much, he was so exciting to watch
Keane’s statement about Clough might not be wrong in that he might of thought Clough did more for his career, and SAF is a better manager than Clough without a doubt, but Clough was one of the best managers ever to grace English Football
Ed Dixon clough won back to back European cups, something fergie never did
@@StoutProper Di Matteo won a European cup mate.
20 Times Man United who the fuck cares a shit about him? Wasn't his team
Fergie sacked him he hated him for that
@@StoutProper he always said Brian clough because he’s the one that gave him his chance as a young lad
Well I already subbed and notification squad so ehh happy birthday delated
He made stuff look easy bc of how good he was. What a player. Wish I could of see him in his prime
Great video lad!
keane was also a match winner, scoring winning goals
Keane was an exceptional player. He may not have been a skilful player or a prolific goal scorer, but as far as box to box midfielders go Keane is the best I’ve ever seen. A very underrated passer of the ball and always got the best out of his teammates.
Of course, he could be a hothead and saw his fair share of red cards, but many of the greats have poor records when it comes to bookings (Gerrard, Cantona, Drogba etc.)
Today’s game lacks characters like Keane. A true born leader who was obsessed with winning, and was almost like having a manager on the pitch.
Legend.
Gerrard,Drogba???
BEST CENTER MIDFIELDER EVER IN THE EPL. NO OTHER MIDFIELDER CAN COME CLOSE TO ROY KEANE.....
No one gets into SAFs Man utd just for kicking legs
Mans got talent and the ability
The best player ive seen and definitely the most important for the most successful team in English football in that period. He made them play
Yes!, To all the suggestions for future videos mentioned by fellow followers. Keano is a PL legend!!!!
Great video I’m a Liverpool fan Keane was uniteds souness both underrated. United fans get Keane in as manager he’d work wonders.
Go on there Keano! What a legend
Happy birthday,broooooo!!!!!!!!!!
I think when he was at Man U he was seen as the best midfielder in the league, but in the years since that feeling has really diminished, as folk have started praising Scholes much more.
I guess the falling out with Fergie and leaving Man U earlier than Giggs and Scholes went against him since.
Keane was a fantastic player.and captain. It is not fashionable these days, but he was ahead of Paul Scholes (a great partnership though)
Most underrated player in the history of the game
*Most underrated world class player.
I can think of several prem players who might not have been world class but were even more underrated than Keane
1000000% i thought you were going to leave off viera but you found i way to include him! Irwin too
Your premier league xi is absolutely on spot
GK: Speroni
DEFFENCE: Van Anholt Sahko Tomkins Wan Bisakka
Midfield: Jedinak Mooy Kewel
Forwards: Zaha Viduka Bolasie
I'm going to take a wild guess that you're an Australian Crystal Palace fan.
Matthew Reid how did you know?!
@@roboticaljohn8299 One of my good friends is a Kiwi Palace fan so I get an instinct for these.
Whenever people talk about best starting 11 Keane is always first person I think of.
an excellent video.
I am a big fan of Roy Keane. As a natural goal keeper, his ability to fall back and defend was amazing. Plus his feisty attitude, and amazing through ball passes make him one of the best ever.
Keano makes me proud to be from Cork
Always the MAN -ROY KEANE(LEGEND)
What a truly great player
Billy is doing fantastic his son (my nephew ) is following in his dad's an grandad footsteps
Happy Birthday🍰🍰
Fletcher said he had the best first touch he had ever seen as well. At youth-levels for Ireland he struggled to get playing time but he was awarded the prize for most technical player according to “Keane origins” by Edin O’Callaghan the third book I’ve read about Roy. Recommend the documentary “How boots will travel” about the early years of his career - it’s at UA-cam somewhere. Interesting story!
The boss
Your XI is amazing
world class
Only jealous people condemn ROY for Gods sake wake up ROY KEANE was your consummate footballer truly amazing
Happy Birthday mate
How much would Roy Keane(in his prime) be worth now!!!
5 billion
£150m
Keano !!! Theres only one Keano !!! ×3
He loves man utd like his blood
I've had the notification bell on for months now but still only get notifications from HITC Sport not HITC Sevens
So true
I always thought is was a shame how Keano’s time at United ended and how his relationship with Ferguson broke down so badly. Both are United legends who were perfectly matched in their passion and unbending demanding attitudes.
1 Fraser Forster
2 Victor Wanyama (shoe horned in)
3 Kieran Tierney
4 Virgil Van Dijk
5 Kristoffer Ajer
6 Roy Keane
7 Henrik Larsson
8 Neil Lennon
9 Chris Sutton
10 Pierre Van Hooijdonk
11 John Collins
If Gattuso and Pirlo had a baby lol very underated player, most who disputed his entry in the top 100 never watched him play
fantastic video, however not sure about keane and viera in the same 11, other than that agree with everything you said
Happy Birthday.
nice video
Happy Birthday
Teddy Sherringham's XI of players he played alongside or against put Keane and Vieira in CM, which I wish we could of seen
as a united fan you really noticed how crucial keane was to uniteds success, people nerver really saw it, unless they wathced him week in week out.
i find it hard making a premier league top XI without seeming biased towards Man United. so ill make one which i think will be fair and still a great team.

Do one of these videos on your opinion regarding City.
You could do a video on your premier league all time 11. I’d like to know why you didn’t include gerrard or lampard when they get into most pundits teams.
happy birthday
If Keane was English, he'd be in a lot more 'Greatest Premier League Teams Ever' lists...
Same with Paul McGrath, one of 2 CBs to win the PFA award in the Premier League era.
@@barryb90 Keane is my favourite player ever but I still think McGrath just pips him as the best Irish player at international level. I realise Keane won far more but for me McGrath had more impact in more games and when you consider McGrath's drinking issues and his dodgy knees pretty much prevented him from training. My best McGrath memory is when he had Guillt in his pocket, when Guillt was on fire. Euro 88 I believe. Gullit said after McGrath was one of the best players he ever played against. I was lucky enough to me him around that time too. Not just a legend but an absolute gentleman too.
he never looked at his ucl winner medel after that semi final
@2:28 An even more absurd statement when he left out Brian Robson who was still world class for his first 6 season at the club even with injuries. He also described Brian Robson as the best he ever managed when picking an all time Man United XI in the late 80s. So maybe I guess his categories moved after that. Also Keane was considered the most important player at the club in 1999-2000 when United included a section about how making Keane sign a long term contract for £45k a week to be the best paid player at the club was so incredibly important for United as he was the most important player at the club. This extension was so important it overshadowed a champions league match with Valencia at the time.
Roy Keane was talented midfielder,he opted to be effective rather than flasy as he prefered results over style.
