Is my 200-600mm Lens Broken? RMNP Day Ruined?

- Finally got back up to Rocky and immediately started noticing my lens not working quite right. The focus spot stopped showing up on the EVF. I tried taking the lens off, switching all the lens buttons around, new battery. It would only help sporadically. Other lenses work fine. Maybe it's the sensors in the lens connections/collar?

Steve was in a playful mood that morning, wasn't he? 😄 I thought he was mimicking a dog, at the beginning, when he said "squirrel!. 😉😄
Great idea, Monique! Holidays can be pure chaos. I'd rather be in Rocky when it's not crowded, myself.
Beautiful images, as always. The elk shaking water of his coat is one of my favorites; and, for a moment, the images of the osprey gave me the feeling of being there. I viscerally felt that same feeling experienced when I visited Colorado about 45 years ago.
He was! It's a great place, hope you can visit soon!
I love RMNP. Thanks for the video.
You are welcome. We have tons of content from Rocky, hope to see you there!
Have updated your camera firmware to 2.01? I’ve had some intermittent problems with focus on my A1+200600 combo since I updated. It works for a while then the EVF goes dull and the F number in the EVF goes to F- and it won’t focus. Switching off then on again sometimes fixes it but occasionally I need to take out the battery and reinsert it. I found a thread on the DPReview forum where a guy explained he was having exactly the same problem.
I have the exact issue you describe @davidn8117! Sony support thinks I need to send both the A1 and 200-600 to Prescison Camera for evaluation. I have tried cleaning the contacts and resetting the camera, neither solved the issue.
Such great advice. The vid coming this Sunday shows how we fixed it, you rock!
It’s always a fear of mine when I travel someplace that I’ll have a gear malfunction.
With the cost of camera gear it’s not like you can have backups of some of your bigger glass.
I typically take two camera bodies with me in case I have a failure but I never thought until now about a lens malfunction.
I hadn't considered it either!
I can see the problem from here - it says SONY on that stuff 🤣🤣🤣🤣 - one of our favorite destinations in the fall.
LOL hahaha! What is your gear of choice?
@@CattailChronicles - Canon - but they all are pretty amazing these days - have an R5 with a 20-+ year old EF 600 F/4 adapted to it
@@TheWildlifeGallery388I sold Canon business imaging products for over 20 years and had a very successful career doing so.
But I shoot all SONY gear and have for well over a decade and a half.
Come to whatever conclusion you will about that…
@@Gogogordy1 - The only conclusion I take from it is that first it's your money you get to spend it how you like and if a brand is working for you, I see no reason to change and maybe, just maybe if you re-read my comment, you'll see the sarcasm dripping from it. Come to whatever conclusion you will about that.
@@TheWildlifeGallery388 Well-placed sarcasm is never lost on me…I have a sixth sense for it (and dispense my own brand of it regularly) MY point was that despite deep available discounts, and even FREE Canon gear opportunities I had available, I still choose SONY. To your point that brand works for me and that’s certainly no “dis” on Canon.
Then only thing I can suggest about your lens is that if you don't have a problem with the other lenses then it's the lens. You may want to contact Sony support and see if they can talk you through some things. I don't know if Sony does that but Nikon does. If what they suggest doesn't work it sounds like you need to send it in for repair. You both got some great shots!
Thanks Patty. The vid coming out Sunday shows how we fixed it :)
that's not the lens which was dropped a while back? Otherwise, the usual suggestions, clean the contacts, remove battery, reset the camera to factory default settings, be sure you are updated to most current firmware etc. Assuming you've done all of those, sounds like it may be a trip to Sony repair to get checked out.
You rock! The vid coming out this Sunday shows what we ended up doing. Stay tuned!
@@CattailChronicles I'll look for it.
Try to clean the contacts on the lens, If nothing happens, send the lens for repair.
Thanks!
No moose pics for you. Oh no!!!
Right? Gotta get up early and I know we would have better luck.
2.01 bug
Thanks!
Exchange camera with your partner and see how it goes.
I have the 200-600 and also the 600/4 prime on A1 and A6600, respectively, not in that order though. I never had problem like you mentioned. Usually switching off the camera for 5 min would do.
Ah thank you! The vid coming out this Sunday shows how we fixed it :)
