The fact that we were sold the Hunger Games as a love triangle for teenage girls and not as about a revolution and its price is something I'm still very salty about. At the time of its release, you would see TV programs talk about who they want Katniss to end up with, interviews focused on Katniss's love life, so infuriating.
This is a story about the cruelty of the ruling class, and how the rich keep us distracted and divided amoung ourselves. It's about how the system breaks you and kills your hopes and dreams. It's about dealing with trauma and grief and mental illness. It's about how to start a movement, it's about how everyone uses everyone as a pawn in their game, it's about resilience and it's about the sacrifices you have to make to do what is right.
It's not a f*****g love story, it's a guide on how to change the world. People are surpised teenage girls are so politically active, but it's because we've read this book. We already know the story. We don't want somebody to have to be Katniss, because nobody derserves to have her life.

Exactly! That's the reason I am lowkey ashamed of telling people I don't know well enough that I love Hunger Games (being a guy) because I assume they will automatically put me to the same category as Twilight fans - meaning no offense, but that's just a totally different kind of story and totally different people like it. I even wrote a paper at my uni about trauma in the HG because it goes so deep into the horrors of human psyche and the structures of power responsible for the unspeakable suffering.

Also "it's the things we love most, that destroy us" this quote describes the whole series. Snow just has the best quotes. He is one of the smartest and interesting characters even tho I hate him
@@desislavastefanova7197 have you read "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" yet? It goes into Snows back story and its really good at explaining how he became who he is. Just giving suggestions. I hated Snow aswell but he is now one of my favorite characters.

The Hunger Games is best sci-fi cinematic trilogy to me.

These books changed my perspective in life and honestly if I never read them I think I would have a completely different life. It brought me to the people I needed to meet to find my long-term friends and choose my career path.
Made me realize how strong women can be and has made me an activist ever since.
Madison Pickett an activist for what? Women have EVERY right that men do, maybe even more from what I can tell in Australia
same here, when you grow up on dystopia novels and changing opinions you turn into a person who your family never saw coming. I know that my family sure as hell never saw me going from quiet little girl to a teen who is ready to tear inequalities apart. Like how people say gen z is another breed, what did they expect??

@@ninjaproskills0077 i can’t tell you about Australia, but I live in the southern US, and let me tell you the life of men and women is vastly different. There are many in my area that don’t condone women working, voting, or even being in public by themselves (even if it’s just to go to lunch)
@@ninjaproskills0077 unfortunately sexism is still a huge thing, even if us Aussies don't see it personally as much. Activism is heavily needed so woman are equal , men learn it's okay to be emotional and vulnerable, survivors of all genders get too speak their truth, lgbtq+ gain rights and respect, and POC no longer are discriminated against because of their skin. There's so many issues out there, even in Australia too. Aboriginals face discrimination yet most Aussies turn a blind eye, I know that cause I'm Aussie aswell. There are problems everywhere mate, activism is needed to help raise awareness and let all minorities speak up against their oppressors.
I never realized how perfect this song was for this series. This was powerful.

Hunger Games fan since I was 10 in fifth grade.. I’m 18 now and still a fan
I’ve come to appreciate the growth of the Hunger Games, and how it changed drastically. The first book was simply about the games themselves, surviving the games, and that could have been enough if it weren’t for the way in which Rue dies and the circumstances with Peeta. When Rue died, Katniss realized how cruel it was that an innocent twelve year old died for the entertainment of those who are equally human to people from the districts. And of course she wouldn’t just leave her body there to be carried away, she wasn’t just going to leave Rue lying there as an animal killed for sport. So she rebelled by decorating her with flowers, and making her beautiful, even in death. After the announcement about two victors, she allied with Peeta, but because of the revoked rule change, she again decided to not play the games, and instead attempt a double suicide. Like I said, the first book was just about surviving the games, and when I think about it, maybe it was exciting, but the whole world of the hunger games expanded from this little cornucopia bloodbath trapped in the arena to Katniss realizing that is was her duty to initiate this rebellion, and to be the face of it. And my brain just can’t grasp how in the epilogue when she thinks about the games she played, when she’s with her children it’s like she’s in a whole new world, with no games. The hunger games seemed so far off, but she participated in them, going in in the seventh fourth hunger games, running for supplies just like everybody else. It’s truly amazing how the series completely transformed from surviving the games to creating the new Panem. This wracks my brain every night so I hope writing it down might help.

I watched this a few months ago and for some reason forgot to comment. This is one of my favourite HG edits (I've seen a heck of a lot) because the song is perfect for this story and the editing spot on and impactful. I have no words for how much this series means to me and you managed to honour it and all that it represents, amazing work.

That book turned out so amazing I couldn't believe it.
At Part III it took one of the most unexpected turns, though it should make sense to me as there were ~180 pages left, and what was Collins gonna fit into that if he had just done a certain thing (not gonna spoil for anyone)
Is anyone else so addicted to the hunger games that it gives you butterfly’s every time you think about it. It is so powerful and beautiful I cry when I think about it.

Exquisite! I’ve watched this constantly since you posted it. The song seems written for The Hunger Games film in the 2010s instead being written in the 1980s, by the peerless Leonard Cohen. I miss these movies so much. Suzanne came out with a prequel book but it’s not the same. I wish we had more of Katniss and Peeta and Effie and Haymitch. These movies made me.

what does the hunger games trilogy + the ballad of songbirds and snakes mean to you? or how did it change you as a person? (i would like to see other people’s perspectives!!)
Thg means the world to me because these books introduced me to the dystopian genre, and that made me become interested in politics because I started to see the parallels to our real world. Also the movie adaptations were perfect in my opinion! I just finished the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and loved it too, because it was such a new perspective on everything and I loved to see Snow's development! It will always be my no 1 fandom.
Not just this series but this goes for all the dystopian based novels I read (thg, tmr, the selection ect) it definitely made me angry, seeing that these things exist in our world but on a different level. It made me search for my own facts and opinions and it sure as hell made me go from the quiet little girl to a teen who is ready to challenge anything and anyone. It made me someone who doesnt let shit happen but takes control hell I even learned archery and other weaponry because I found it interesting after this. It made me realize I dont have to conform to shit, if I wanna dress up in ball gowns and then the next day be at the archery range so be it. But it wasnt just me I've seen changes like this in gen z, we read these books and watched the movies and decided that we wanted to be the main character. So here we are, an entire generation ready to challenge anyone who dares to oppose us.

This is from a quote from an old movie I have not seen it but have seen the trailer 50 times to know that not all the time things go your way in the movie she begs him not to leave because they will chop her tree down but instead he leaves and the chop her tree down. But this does not me you have to give up just because you tree has fallen, because in the end he found his love for her and built her another baby tree in her yard (literally)
