Critics of the last movie: Not enough Godzilla, too much focus on the humans!
Critics of this movie: Too much Godzilla, not enough human focus!
Ikr. You can't please anyone these days
@@shawnmichael2305 Not every movie has to be a deep charecter focused film. Sometimes a movie is just there to have some fun and entertain, nothing more.
You guys have to understand that critiquing a movie isn't a two-sided coin. They are judging the movie by how good the movie is. Not how entertained their eyes are.
@@josephmessina248 True, but you also have to judge different types of movies in different ways. You wouldn't say a horror movie is bad because it doesn't have comedy. Or critique an action movie because the romance falls flat. It's' all about what the movie is trying to do, and how well it does it. It's like with John Wick, the acting is kinda cheesy, the characters aren't very deep, but the action is so good and stylish that everyone loves them (Me included)
I'm sure a lot of these critics that review these movies either never were Godzilla/Kaiju fans or might've enjoyed it when they were kids or through high school but haven't seen it since so have forgotten how these movies work.
Hey, if the critics aren't complaining about *lack of monsters* in a monster film and the positives are generally *amazing kaiju fights* , I think I'm gonna see it.
Jia L. I’m gonna see it no matter what!
Lol. No they're complaining that there's too much monster action. Which is a plus for me.
It does seem like there are 2 climax in the movie. So it does feel weird.
Actually no, forget it, IT IS AN AMAZING MOVIE.
No No
There is more monster action but I would t really say better, just more! And the human part of the film was worse in some aspects than the first. It’s a ok action movie. 7/10!
They are bitching about the storyline and the lack of focus on human characters in the film and that just says it all these cunts are not fans of Godzilla or the films. They are just being critics and assholes because that's their job. If you are a fan of the original films then you are in for a treat not with just the fights but how the main monsters look and ones some will know from the original films. If there are complains then it will be the story because the actions of some human characters will have you going really that's how you justify your actions
Critics: WOooow WAY too much monster fights...not a lot of humans :|
Me: WEEEELP *preorders tickets*
@Martin Lee you do know most people go to see godzilla FOR GODZILLA!
SPOILER ALERT
Ghidorah is actually the head manager of Rotten Tomatoes who's trying his best to ruin Godzilla's Hollywood career
according to rotten tomatos the 2016 ghostbusters remake rates higher than forrest gump
for that alone the website is irrelevant
but they are still a go to source for many people
@@jora1339 Forrest Gump's Rotten Tomatoes score is way too low to begin with. It should be in the mid 90s range, but maybe that's just me.
That explains it lol!
FAKE NEWS
it's M'aaam!
Critics*
Godzilla 2014: Not enough Godzilla. Too much human emphasis on humans
Godzilla 2018: Not enough human story. Too much emphasis on Godzilla and the monsters
Just slap an MCU logo on every movie and critics will call it the best thing since slice bread.
Couldn't be more true
@theguyonthecouch 💯
2 wrongs don't make a right. They went overboard on both. Humans and Monsters respectively.
The MCU finds the balance.
@@dommydench4693 EndGame is overloaded with plot holes after plot holes. They literally contradicted thier own rules on time travel. Had that been any other movie it would have gotten trashed at by critics. But seen as though it's EndGame and its an MCU movie we'll let it slide g.
@@blackadam7867 and critics are also very bias to mcu and disney because they praise those films the same reason they bashed on this film for example mcu has a thing of making cringy jokes I mean sometimes they're funny but if you're going to make a climatic film like endgame at least hold up the jokes until the right moments but this funny also has some bad comedy but the critics don't like it when this movie does it but it's okay when the mcu does it?
"Oh no, there goes Tokyo....go, go Godzilla!!"
Oooooooooohhhhhh nnnnoooooooooo there goes Tokyo... go, go GodillllllaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaAAAAAAAAA
Blue oyster still kicks ass
Funny how godzilla never touch tokyo in the movie.
That's what I wanted to hear, "Less Human interaction" MORE Monsters Fight" just once in a Godzilla Movie I want to see human Bodies Fly , Burn, rip-in half, get eating alive, while your still on the toilet!
People flying yes this movie has that, people getting eaten yes
While no toiler scenes the rest is there sure enjoy.
This has all of those except the toilet part lol
Lol u want people being eaten on the toilet, watch Jurassic park
@@notoyaarthur1990 Well yeah!
Bear also composed the epic God of War soundtrack last year, so I knew Godzilla would have a great soundtrack.
Can’t wait to see this film in IMAX.
Bought the score last week. Been playing it everyday. All of the monster themes are hot but that Rodan theme hits harder than a mofo.
This guy has done some incredible work. Definitely a composer you're gonna hear name dropped and that's not an easy thing to do.
I love his Black Sails theme. I’m also a big fan of his work on the Sarah Connor Chronicles.
I feel like this is finally going to get Bear McCreary the recognition he deserves! The man is so consistent.
Walking Dead, Agents of Shield, Da Vinci's Demons, Black Sails, Outlander, Sarah Conner Chronicles, Battlestar Galactica. That's just his TV work. I got the score last week and have been playing it everyday. The monster themes are amazing and the overall score is something else. I'm a TV and Film score buff. I watch alot of movies and TV and if a score catches me, I'll most likely buy the album. I don't remember playing a film score this much before a film was released since Man of Steel and I play Man of Steel alot to this very day.
Bear is the shit. God of War game music.
Lots of people already know him by name like me who aren't even music buffs. The guys already a legend.
I can’t wait, see it Thursday. This is my avengers. I grew up on Godzilla to see my favorite badass monsters in imax on the big screen with some of the best visual effects is a dream come true.
GamebroTV I know I’ve been looking every where else and critics are loving anywhere from 7.5 to a 9.5. Which is really good rotten tomatoes only has like 30 reviews any way.
Thank you for this review, Haleigh and Christian are a great pairing.
I'm a big Godzilla fan and am eagerly awaiting this release to watch it with my friends, who aren't big Godzilla fans but are genuinely excited about this movie.
I'm glad to hear that Bear McCreary's score is good (What a fantastic name that man has) and that you both really enjoyed this Godzilla film.
Please do a Spoiler Review together, I thought that you were both great and would like more of you talking about Godzilla: King of the Monsters. =)
It will be OK they do the main monsters justice but be warned the story might not agree with the human characters I mean well some of them most of them are great.
I’ve been loving Godzilla since the 70’s I cannot wait to see this one on IMAX!!!!
lets be honest. we just want them fight thats all about godzilla.
@Kyero Nelma Let be right here if you are going to a Godzilla movie you are there for the fights and visual effects son not the story. This film is for the fans of Godzilla not general audiences or asshole critics but the story has issues no doubt I was scratching my head on many scenes but hey I wasn't there for that crap. Now on to Kong.
@Kyero Nelma general audiences? Did you do any official polling or something? Does Transformers movie had a good story? Hows the box office on that movies? PLENTY. Story aint lacking, but it had issue I admit. General audiences wants to be entertained, NOT for the story. All you said about critics is valid tho.
Seeing it in IMAX Saturday night with my girl and a group of friends! So HYPED!
Cody Vaughn same except I have no friends
James 10384 I can cheer you up, most friends are fake anyways from my experience in life so don’t be sad 🙃
Me too, gonna see it with my dad on IMAX on a same day :D
Seeing it tomorrow in IMAX! I love going to the cinemas alone so its all good.
@@hey-its-me8377 hahaha
Its one of those movies you either love or hate. If you love Kaiju battles then this film did its job good.
People citing the Rotten tomato scores - folks, this is the same site that Gave TLJ, Captain Marvel, and Ghostbusters 2016 good reviews, deleted tens of thousands of audience reviews for Capt Marvel, and have some of the absolute cringiest film critics in existence. There was reviewer who said that she was not the target audience for this film, thus displaying her bias openly, and then proceeded to rate the film 2 out of 10.
Rotten tomatoes doesn’t review movies, they collect them. Sooooo.....
It's apparently a dream come true to actual Godzilla fans (meaning, people who like at least some of the japanese films), but unsurprisingly a big portion of critics are tearing it apart pointing out poor characterization of the humans and plot issues that only matter to them when the movie doesn't have the Disney logo splatted all over it.
Novapoid tbh no one sees godzilla films for humans
Exactly. Disney gets privileges other studios do not including biased reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ben Frank true. only smart people are gonna watch godzilla just for godzilla not only for humans
You know what happens when writers overemphasize the humans right 'points at the Netflixzilla movies'.
Lol Disney is RT's sugar daddy
Nice review, I liked Godzilla(2014) as well as Kong Skull Island, didn't care if there wasn't much monster battles, many human characters or not seeing too much Godzilla, having him on screen would be enjoyable enough. From the reviews I'm seeing this included I will love this sequel. Who doesn't love a good summer monster movie flick anyway? Can't wait for this Friday.
I loved Godzilla ‘14 too.
I can’t wait for this. You guys have got me even more hyped. A Godzilla movie for Godzilla fans!! Perfect.
Just saw the movie and it was amazing! Best giant fights since Pacific Rim!!! 10/10 What a spectacle!!!
I agree. I watched it Thursday, but the more I let it sink in, the more I wanna watch It again.
Good, another Review that didn't get hung up on the human characters and knows Gozilla is the star of the movie not an object where "less is more".
I LOVED IT. who the fukc goes to Godzilla for human characters? I want a monster battle royale and I got it
There is probably 30 minutes of 'battle royale' in this 2 hour long movie. The rest is just humans doing boring stuff. How can you LOVE this abominable movie?
@@oompie815 because the boring stuff is literally set up for battle Royale?
I don't know how you can hate it with 3 FUCKING WWE TYPE GODZILLA VS GHIDORAH FIGHTS. it's fucking Godzilla what did you expect to watch? Citizen Kane?
I had wayyyy more fun than with Captain Marvel no joke
Dizzy Blu AEW not WWE
just give us a wide shot and have the monsters fight!!!
Nah... Never listen to those critics guys. As an Indian I got a chance to watch this movie early because of it's released date 30 th May (india). It is a great, epic , legendary movie.
No word's to describe.
I personally will rate 9/10 as a godzilla fan.
I can't wait to watch Godzilla took a day off from work yay for opening day
I'm bringing 10 to 12 people to see it with me ...THE HYPE IS REAL ! Thank you for the review !
I've just seen the movie, and my God (Zilla), its everything that i've wanted to see since i was a boy.
Seeing the big G on a big screen, treated with some hollywood sprinkling, its perfection.
I lost count on how many times i excitedly shouted in the cinema seeing every single titan coming out 1 by 1, and honestly imo, the human aspect on this movie is not that bad.
10/10 for me! 👍🏻🔥🌬
Go Go GODZILLA!!!
Who here is reading the comments while the video is paused. 😂
The kajiu monsters already the main characters. You don't need humans as replacement. That why transformers franchise keeps failing. 😁
I wish transformers would fail but they seem to keep making them 😂
@@discoshrew7403 😊👍
All I want for the humans in this movie is either runaway or get wiped out.
This movie give rating is 8/10 better than 7.8/10
First decent review done on this film...THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Finally a good review and a fair review given the content of the movie...I think you'd guys gave this a fair review because you didn't expect more and you didn't expect less you knew exactly what is needed in a movie like this
Will this movie put me to tears of joy like Endgame & John Wick did?
MOST. LIKELY.
If your a true Godzilla fan absolutely.
I can already tell that I will on IMAX
@Luis Martinez lmao. Literally has some of the best choreographed action of all time.
No Unless you're hard core fan. I've seen it and it's great
I grew up watching all the Godzilla films. I just want to see the titans fight. I don't care about humans. I just want to see Godzilla and King Ghidorah fight. I loved Kong: Skull Island because we got to see actual monsters fight! Bring it on. I'm super excited.
Kaiju fans will be pleased in this film.
I've been extremely worried about the quality of this since the review embargo is so close to films release. I just read Empire's 1 star review and had to come here immediately and see if it was really as terrible as they said it was. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it because I already bought my tickets :|
critics destroy it so far completly
every review so far is saying the same thing....the Monster fights are great.....everything else, not so great. it seems to depend if you can ignore the humans sections or not.
@@darrenblackwood2616 What have you been looking at?
@@darrenblackwood2616 Yeah I've watched a few reviews and they all seem to be saying the same thing. Humans suck and the monster stuff is great.
@@bronumero7334 what do you mean, what reviews have I been looking at?
Absolutely best movie of the year! I am not even a Godzilla fan. Do I care abt the plot on a Godzilla movie? lol. Do I want more Godzilla in a Godzilla movie? HELL FUGGING YEAH! And this movie delivers!!! Awesome CGI!
As soon as Haleigh mentioned GMK, I knew this was a review I could trust
Great review guys too many folks saying
Not enough Godzilla, too much focus on the humans.
Too much godzilla, not enough focus on the humans.
Which one? can't have it both ways!
There's too much human participation in this movie. The movie needs less focus on the humans.
See this film in PROPER Imax! I saw it on opening day at Odeon BFI Imax and was blown away! Peeps there is something else your NOT being told! AFTER the end credits have finished rolling the film has a brief scene which WILL get everyone craving for the next installment!
I'm happy for you that you got to see it early Christian. And I really loved it too. This was an amazing Kaiju movie. I'mma go watch it at least 2 more times.
This was Haleigh's most anticipated summer movie. I am so glad Collider let her do the review (I had fears it was going to be Jeff Sneider!)
I’m more excited for this than Star Wars
The name Star wars holds no weight these days. The franchise is dead
“Star Wars is dead” lmao the movie that nobody asked for (Solo) opened to $100 million last year. Yeah, that sounds dead to me
@@Lamidemonami7891 why brought up Solo? That's the first ever Star Wars film to commercially fail
Luthadie because it commercially failed as a Star Wars film, but it’s a movie that NOBODY wanted, had a director switch, really bad press, and opened it a crowded summer season yet still made over $100 million opening weekend. Sure, it ended up failing because it’s budget was so big, but for a film to open up that big after everything proves that Star Wars isn’t anywhere near dead
Uninteresting characters/dialogue and lots of monster action? Sounds like a typical Godzilla movie to me.
Ikr?! I dont think any godzilla fans will complain about that. Super stoked!
*Godzilla 2 releases*
Critics: I'm about to end this guy's whole career.
I thought it compliment the first two movies of this monsterverse series very well. Best Hollywood made Godzilla film thus far.
Glad to hear it's good, but they went crazy for the recent Pet Semetary so I'll take this review with a grain of salt.
critics destroy it so far
glad to hear someone say what I was thinking...
@@ac14cmpunk25 - Critics are hardly 'destroying' the film.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters currently has a 52% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (Out of 27 reviews) and a score of 49 on Metacritic (With 6 positive reviews, 7 mixed reviews and 3 negative reviews)
@@TrueTargaryen2012 Lol a 5/10 movie with this budget and lore is a disaster.
@@War_Maker - I think that it's incredibly hyperbolic to say that it's already a "disaster" or that "critics destroy it" (Which from the reviews so far, it's seen as average) I just think that people should use their words more carefully, it may end up being a disaster for Warner Bro's and land well under expectations both critically and financially. But we are only in the very early stages of it's release, with no box office numbers and the majority of reviews still to come.
So let's hold off on the hyperbolic statements until we have some facts and figures, shall we?
This is the most real review out there. Fans should make sure to get this movie fresh to destroy critics
Hats off to the writers for identifying and choosing to remain faithful to a major and often overlooked theme of godzilla and other kaiju stories. From Gamera to Batra, mothra's children, Kiryu's bones, little godzilla, godzilla jr.. The child's perspective of trauma is a key motif that resonates strong in Japanese fiction, think graveyard of the fireflies. The fights between giant monsters as analogous to the devastating severity of parental discord is a story worth telling.
the best analysis of this channel, not like the others who believe the great thing in collider, Good job.
Currently the score on RT is at 54. It’s gaining up there but I have a feeling it’ll stop between 60 and 70 as much I hate to admit it.
I hope so
It will be fresh it keeps going up so it will probably be around 70
ShandalfGreyhame captain marvel was good
If you are a long time Godzilla fan, you will love all the references in the film. They even put in the twin angle from Mothra without the twins being fairies.
The main thing I want from this movie is amazing mind blowing monster fights. With a component story line and decent characters. The humans are secondary to the monsters.
So excited for this movie
Loved the movie and I loved your review as well, guys. Keep up the great work.
Glad these guys liked the movie.. because none of the other critics appear to. I was so hyped for this and now it feels like it is going to be a huge letdown.
Just preordered tickets, i am SO excited
Wtf is Rotten Tomatoes doing at 39%, I heard so many good reviews until I seen Rotten Tomatoes
Rt isnt specific, though.
It's also going up in score. It was 39%.
where?
Everybody trashes the film online
It’s 52% now, seems to be going up
RT is garbage. Be your own critic.
This movie was incredible. Go see it in IMAX!
Human stuff in Godzilla movies are made to be dumb and wooden. Love it!
Humours in this movie work really well? Really? I only did a faint chuckle and I don't even remember what that "joke" was.
The Kaiju fights though... Awesome.
The Kaijus introduction are beautiful!
Yeah the humor bombed.
Im just here looking for proof to show that the tomatometer for this movie is completely wrong
Seeing this tomorrow, cannot wait any longer. I was sold once Dougherty used Clair De Lune in that comic con tailed from a year ago.
Can’t effin wait.
I cant wait to see this going to see it opening on thursday in imax
It's refreshing to see a movie made by fans, for fans and reviewed by fans. 1998 was done by someone who clearly didn't give a rat's ass about fans. 2014, was awesome in that it gave MAJOR nods to 1954; Dr. Serizawa, keeping Godzilla shrouded in mystery( the entire Honolulu tsunami landing leading up to the airport reveal was simply amazing) and keeping the utter destruction for the final act. Having also seen Gareth Edward's "Monsters" I was SUPER excited. 2019...any critic hating on it tells me, automatically that I will love it! Haven't seen Krampus, but knowing Michael Dougherty's affection for this genre fills me with confidence of an amazing ride at the movies!
It’s Jurassic Park logic; the human story may not be the best, but who goes to see Jurassic Park for the humans?
Jurassic Park human characters are pretty damn good compared to the Godzilla movies.
In the first couple of films, absolutely. Though they certainly became less so in the later films. Regardless, I still watched them for the dinos, rather than the humans
@@theocovello7750 I do too, but I would still say that even in films like Jurassic World etc... the human characters have more personality then the characters in these Godzilla movies. So it serves as a palatable, if not necessarily tasty, side dish to the dinos.
All I need is kaiju fights and humans running away.
Goji fans would be pleased with this movie. Do we really even care most of the human characters throughout the 35 films released?
What I liked about 2014's Godzilla was it's approach to NOT RUSH anything and not reveal the creature too much (like Jaws and Jurassic Park)... so by the end of the film, and when Godzilla saves the day, I walked out with a smile on my face.
While the idea of Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah in the same film sounds good on paper... It doesn't mean I'm going to enjoy the movie with CONSTANT ACTION for 2 hours. I LOVE John Wick, and the action in John Wick Chapter 3 was some of the best Action displayed on film ever... but at 2 hours and 10 minutes... and with a character who is INVINCIBLE. I did walk out slightly underwhelmed. That was an R-RATED Action Film with amazing stunt choreography.... idk about a PG-13 RATED Creature Feature with CGI Creatures.
“Too much Godzilla... not enough people”
STOP RIGHT THERE & TAKE MY MONEY
Also seeing this with some friends Friday night , we saw the first Godzilla in 2014 and now we’re back for this one
Where's the full stream?
I thought this is the Godzilla movie we deserved. Total justice to Rodan and monster zero
Fkn loved it..made me feel like a fkn kid again..didn't let me down!! Godzilla the true king of all monsters....
Totally agree with you guys! Not perfect, but it was AMAZING and FUN (no wonder critics didn't like it).
What if this movie is goin to take action movies to a new level? I have like 19 hours to wait until i see the movie.. I am hiped af
Just realized Kyle Chandler was also in King Kong, gonna be interesting to see if he meets kong again.
Finally! Review from real Godzilla fans. Subbed!
Ok, I purchased tickets tonight. You guys sold me.
I’m telling you right now... I bought tickets to see the damn monsters. I can care less about the humans or the critics
People were moaning about the human cast but we don't go see a Godzilla movie for the human characters.
All I needed to hear was your first thoughts of the movie
I'm definitely seeing it, good to see positive critic reviews, thanks guys.
Seeing it Thurs with my son then seeing again with the wife in IMAX Saturday.
#1. The Greatest Film You've EVER SEEN is ALL I Wanted To Hear..😍😍
This movie is getting Luke warm reviews from most critics.
They wanted to have some political statement, in it ... And there's not.
This is for sure going to be Clash of the Titans. The undisputed Alpha. The only disappointment with Gareth Edwards film is he cuts away from the action. That decision by the director was wrong.
I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the joy and critical chemistry between these 2 more than I will the actual movie. Great review guys, you should totally do this more often!
The movie was so epic. The story was ok but who cares the story was good enough for me it set up the monsters to fight. And bradley whitford and zhang ziyi was also great in this movie. But also, the movie also has a strong message about taking care of our planet.
Sounds like you two understand the Monsterverse and what they're trying to do with it. I can't wait for this movie.
Is there any surprise monsters.. does gigan show up????
The Two Two Late Show this is the real question.
The Two Two Late Show no. Legendary doesn't have the right.
I was hoping for Hedorah since Yoshimitsu Banno, the movie's late exec producer is his creator.
Good to hear some great feedback from some real KAIJU fans unlike some other sites that just can’t understand these movies are made for kids, they are so lost.
I found myself interested in the stuff that was happening away from the giant radioactive creatures. That's not easy to do. I don't expect much in the way of story with these movies but this one was fun. Especially in Dolby Atmos!
I love that she pronounces his name "Bear Grillis"
Suprised Rocha isn't reviewing this movie...he keeps talking about how much he is looking forward to the "ultimate popcorn, summer movie"
Is it all at night in the rain?
Well, now I am even more pumped to see this move.
Critics hate the movie tho
@@christophermarabella5683 That's ok. It is still Godzilla. Been a fan since I was a kid.

Gareth! Not Garrett!
Haleigh, you are so very pretty and such a soothing voice. I could listen to you talk about movies or anything really all day!
The monsters ARE the characters.
I’m excited to see this awesome movie!
John Michael Logarta Yeah and they are the main characters while the human characters are the side characters. Can't believe western critics ignored that.
