Haha thanks for the mention matey.. yes not quite the extreme I went too but that was a huge regret as you know so I definitely wouldn't advise it.. 😂 Looking forward to seeing any changes as you go along and if there's anything you're clearing out that doesn't go to Cex then give me first refusal please lol
Yeah I've already had a good clear out of titles that have been re homed in a cex or 2 near me, putting funds back into the collection for a later date 🤞🏻 I've got a small pile ready to list on ebay (I'll Instagram message u a pic if u like) and I'm sleeving alot to a sort of archival system in draws too, hopefully leaving a much more curated set of shelves 😎🤞🏻 think it will be a big project in the long term but maybe my goal for 2025 to slim down much more constantly .
I think we all get caught up in the buyers rush for our collection's... and even more so when you pick them up at 50p or a few quid at CEX. I need to slow down, not because my collection is anywhere near the size of yours... but because I buy far more than I have time to watch. I would say out of everyone I know, only one other person has the capability to play a blu ray... so the collection is soley for me and my house (mostly me). Probably need to get rid of the ones I dont enjoy too. Thanks for the video Ash
Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻 yeah it's very easy to pick titles up but much harder to let them go 😄 even if they're not too great sometimes 😅 it's quite enjoyable going through everything having a big sort out 😎
I started refreshing my collection in January, probably 70% of collection are films i grew up watching and really enjoy watching. I only have about 800 films so it was a lot easier for me to sort and now for example if i have ten new films then i have to pick ten to get rid of. The only problem i will have in the future is my son will probably be getting his own house with his girlfriend and i will end up with a box room like yours. A good idea for future video's as well mate, there is a guy on here called AJ and he does culling video's. very good. Thanks mate.
I've been working on my non horror wall today and chopped a fair few out of there. Some to sell off some to just store in sleeves (which I don't mind doing as I did it with my dvds and have been glad to have them archived) yes I've seen AJ do some of his culling videos 😀 👍🏻 I remember Graham over at man v film also doing a few videos on culling too. I know we all have to fave it at some point and it's been actually pretty enjoyable pulling down all my movies and really going through each one 😁
Top video ash. Really enjoyed it mate. I tend to keep all of my films, unless it’s an upgrade, then I’ll get rid of my old copy of it. Totally get why people want to downsize their collections though, because it can be a pain to find the films you want to watch sometimes. Lol.🤣 awesome stuff Ash.👍
Cheers Scott 😎👍🏻 yeah im getting close to 3500 in a fairly small space, with up until recently no sign of slowing down 😅 doing my shelf videos really started to highlight for me movies I had that I just couldn't even remember or had had for years and never even given a look. Been quite fun so far on the slim down 😀👍🏻
I only started my collection 2 yrs ago, ive stuck to 600 ish of my faves, 150 comedy, 150 action ,100 horror, 35 western, 75 crime, 60 kung fu, 40 sci fi. All my favourites of each genre. Got some tv as well, but ngl most that is digital, cuz its easier to choose episodes. The movies are neat tidy curated. Apart from say picking the ring on a sunny sunday morning, anybody could pick me any film out, and i would love that film.
Sounds more like where I want to be there mate 😄👍🏻 I think I'll get there slowly. First steps have now been made in selling a bunch off and sleeving a load in to archive type wallet system 😎👍🏻
You do have a massive collection, haven't heard of Right At Your Door. Gonna check it if I come across it, Possessor is weird, happy collection slimming. So many gems to keep though
Great video Ash 😊 I been thinking about doing a bit of downsizing wherever it’s either films I have upgraded or about to upgrade to a 4K format or a select of films I just know I never ever going to watch again. You got to do what you happy with mate; you got an amazing collection Ash and always watch brilliant stuff and pick up excellent titles aswell; keep up the amazing work as ever mate; hope you having a brill Bank Holiday 😀🍿🎸🎶
Cheers Sammy G 👍🏻 yeah it's definitely time for me to have a big sort out 😄 don't want to be drowning in movies that just don't mean much to me or will just sit on the shelf for years and years unwatched. Be interesting to see ur own trim down if u do decide to have one mate 😀👍🏻
I think im going to start doing this as well now. I did record a video yesterday after our discussion on my community post, im going to upload it at some point this week. I think have a collection reset is the best thing to do when you think your collection is starting to get out of control so i am going to see how it goes for me. Thanks for all of the advice you have given on this topic its very much appreciated. Hope you're having a great bank holiday weekend.
Cheers Ollie, hope u are too mate 👍🏻 I'll look forward to ur video this week. Your more than welcome for the advice, obviously take or leave any of it mate 😄 I've been straight to work at sorting the collection this morning so far, it's actually quite enjoyable once you get into it. I'm bringing every title down off the shelf (half a shelf at a time) and going through each title one by one splitting them all into different piles.
@popcornandhorror I am currently doing the same as well, it's surprising how many I have come across that im just happy to get rid of, they are mostly titles that were just there to fill the collection. Might do an update video when I get back from my holiday to show the how far I am in the process
Yeah I think it's all about being really honest with ourselves, did we really enjoy that movie, and would go back again and again to it, or did we just like the movie 🤷🏻
Always good to have a reset Ash with collecting, to work out what type of collection you want, I do it myself. I think nowadays theirs only a few movies I'll go out my way to rewatch, mostly due to lack of time and a want to watch a movie I've never seen before. For me, it has to be something special and that's kind of my criteria to enter the collection, similar to yourself with upgrading. Top video bud.
Yeah it sure is, I'm not a million miles away from 4000 and I've somehow found the motivation to start 😄 hope u get the urge one day to have a stab at urs 😁👍🏻
I have that many movies as well. And years ago, I sold a bunch of them and looking back I regret selling a lot of them. Just make sure you don’t sell something that you’ll kick yourself over later.
@RobertHarbitzII cheers 👍🏻 yeah it's always going to be tricky that one. I'm selling some and condescending down others which can be reinstated at any moment down the line 😎🤞🏻
It's when you get rid of a movie then not long after that you want to see it. I was running out of space with my movies. So I bought these plastic wallets that you put the movie and the picture inside them. I only do this with the standard Blu-rays. The 4ks and the Boutique labels movie with your slip covers they stay as they are. It saves loads of space
Yes that's a complete game changer for space, the plastic draws in this room are full of sleeved movies 😄 I'm actually adding more to the draws right now after spending the day sorting through my collection. Although I've left alot of standard releases on the shelf as alot of those are movies that mean alot to me 😀👍🏻
Great video Ash 👍 I went through this crisis last year and ended up taking bags and bags of dvds and blurays to charity shops. My son is on about moving in with his girlfriend next year and as much as we'll miss having him around he has a pretty sizeable room that's going to be perfect for my collection and more 😆
😄 that's a great idea mate! Not sure my under 10 will be ready to fly the nest just yet 😄 well so far it's going pretty well, although I'm getting a bit of heat from the Mrs as u can't sort a big collection without a bit of mess 😁
Yeah it's really tough mate, I've started today though and so far going well, a pile to sell, a pile to rewatch, a pile to store in sleeves, and a pile to go back up on the shelves 👍🏻
@popcornandhorror very hard for me but I did take 2 to cex I got at charity shop. I was going to put them on shelf but realised I would never watch them. Giant toys from Arrow and My name is Bruce.
It’s a glaring issue staring me in the face. Curating is the way to go as you conveyed. I’m a little pickier now with my purchases, I’ve cut back on buying standard studio releases. It will take some minerals and time but I need to get more ruthless and move some stuff on.
As someone who’s trying to build the largest movie library possible, I buy and keep everything lol. But each to their own circumstances, will be interesting to see where you go with it. Right at Your Door sounds interesting. I didn’t like Possessor. Please keep me in mind if you cull any of the horror movies! 🙂👍
