Caleb: Oh, hello-
Philip: My chores have been done.
Caleb: And so quickly! How?
Philip: Well... I came across the most extraordinary thing - a snake, shedding its skin, out in the forest - and I thought that we could go on a walk to see it, like we used to. And this one I could draw in my journal!
Caleb: Nothing would please me more, Pip, but there’s work still yet to be done.
Philip: Then let me lend you a hand.
Caleb: That’s alright. Even between the two of us, it would go on well into the evening, and I’d hate for you to miss your snake.
Philip: There’s always a reason, isn’t there. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that you were avoiding me, Caleb.
Caleb: What? Pip, that’s not-
Philip: True? Isn’t it? When was the last time we spoke more than in passing?
Caleb: Philip- I... [He sighs] I spent my childhood, raising you - I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything, but you don’t need me the way you used to.
Philip: ... You see me as a burden ?
Caleb: No, no of course not, you’re dearer to me than anything ! But we both have to have room to thrive. Why don’t you invite one of the boys from town? You might make a new friend.
Philip: You know how hard I’ve tried to fit in. They don’t want anything to do with me- us. We only have each other.
Some Lady: Caleb Wittebane! I’ve yet to meet a potato that will plant itself, sir!
Caleb: You must excuse me - it seems as though my singular talent is sorely needed. We’ll talk later tonight. I promise.
Philip: Don’t trouble yourself. I know you’ll always be there for me. Right?
Caleb: Of course. I’ll always be there.
Philip's journal :
“The boys I invited to see the snake shedding found the snake and killed it. They told me it was a sign of the devil. I know of another snake, I will try asking Caleb to come this time. but he never wants to see me anymore I’m sure he misses our forest walks too.”
“This is the third time this week I attempted to spend time with Caleb. It seems my suspicions were correct ... he is avoiding me. I wish I knew how to fix it. I suggested bird watching, as I’ve noticed he enjoys carving birds the most. But he would rather be away from me. I miss having a family. Why can’t I fit in ? I will try harder.” - Розваги

Yeah, at the beginning of it all being revealed it seemed to me that Philip keeps jumping back and fort between a clone of him and one of his brother but I don't know if Disney would put something like this in the series or at least while being really clear about it.

It’s kinda scary when you realize that when he was Luz’s age, Philip was so much like her. All that caused them to take irreconcilably different paths in life is what era they grew up in, and the values instilled into each of them. If only Philip grew up in an environment that encourages critical thinking and doesn’t hate witches and outsiders as much, he’d never have become Belos. Likewise, if Luz was told since her formative years that certain people are bad and she should never question her elders, she would have become just like Belos.
Something similar is with Amphibia and its lead Anne Boonchuy and its primary antagonist King Andrias. Like Luz and Belos, they’re put through identical situations, but their upbringing means that they react differently to them. Anne was raised by working-class immigrants who are humble and warm people, which encouraged her to forgive friends who betray her. Andrias wasn’t so lucky. He was raised by a cold and arrogant monarch, and his childhood friends’ betrayals and his father’s toxic pressure caused him to give up on friendship as a whole, for 1000 years.

This is so beautiful! I honestly forgot I was watching a fan animation and not a canon one because this is so well made. The backgrounds really blow me away though. I can see the amount of effort put into every scene. I feel blessed to be able to see this incredible animation.

I feel like it's more of that they didn't have time to show so many flashbacks, because of season 3 getting cut sadly 😔. I feel like Dana definitely would have shown us stuff like this more if the show wasn't canceled. They just had no time.

I just realized the similarities between Philip and Luz in this little animation, mostly because of the fact that they both like snakes and are fascinating by them, and the fact they they were not well liked by their peers because of their interests

It’s a beautiful parallel of how Belos fit in by becoming the enforcer of rules and standards, and how Luz instead embraced making new rules. I’m just feeling many emotions now.
but Belos also made new rules. He just imposed them on the boiling isles until they became established rules and standards.
This would be a great TOH spinoff/prequel showing Philip and Caleb lives before they became what we know today

This is absolutely amazing. I got goosebumps as I noticed the many parallels between Philipp and Luz
Both of them are Outsiders to the rest of Gravesfield,
But only one of them found comfort in the boiling isles rather then destroying a place where he felt more out of place
I believe Luz’s mom will understand that Luz loves the Isles so much that she will have to let her go and live her life as a witch.
@@Starwarsfanboy0928 i think it's the show's end goal and Camila obviously supports that idea so unless there're world drifting apart problems like SVTFOE or Amphibia which is a boring trend right now, Luz'll 100% stay at the boiling isles.

This is amazing! I could totally see Philip is like Luz, since he and Caleb lost their parents. Philip has a hard time fitting in with others so he seek attention with his only brother that understands him. However Caleb see Philip as an adult and hope he can grow and do adventures without him around. It’s make me sad and wonder why he kill his brother in the end.. maybe it was an accident or he was full of rage that Philip will hate Caleb for leaving him for a witch.
I think it's more like he tried killing Evelyn and Caleb intervened and Philip ended up stabbing him, either on accident or when Caleb jumped in to most likely shield Evelyn.
Though that's my personal theory, since it doesn't make a whole lot of sense fir Philip to intentionally kill Caleb, since he relyed on him so much and Caleb was most likely his anchor.

Despite everything Philip will do in the series, I felt bad for him here. Caleb is avoiding him because he's spending time with the witch he met, isn't he? I like how this animation is building up to Caleb eventually leaving Philip behind to go to the Boiling Isles.

Well they first grew up to become Witch Hunters to fit in, as being outsiders, it was hard for them to fit in with their Puritan Neighbors. And becoming Witch Hunters was a way for them to fit into their community
then Caleb met Evelyn Clawthrone
At this point, Caleb was simply trying to make space for himself and Philip to grow as they’re both young adults now
But Philip still depends on his brother and refuses to be weaned off his his dependency on him

This perfectly plays into canon, in my opinion, especially since it's both highlights Phillip's role as a foil to Luz as well as what exactly Caleb meant to him.
Like Philip, Luz never really was able to fit in with people her age, and her antics usually made her seem weird and even dangerous to others. Like her mom, Caleb seems to encourage Philip to go outside and make friends, but under the underlying pretense that he conforms to society and their expectations of what "normal" is. We all know how that turned out for both of them, for better (Luz) and worse (Phillip).
With this fan animation, Caleb kind of reminds me of Camilla, Luz's mom, since both were likely carrying their own burdens of being unwanted and tried their best to protect their younger sibling/daughter, both of which causes undesired harm. All Phillip and Luz had were their family members, and all they wanted was to be understood, Luz by her mother-- which she finally got in "For the Future"-- and what Phillip/Belos is still fighting for in his murder of Caleb and creation of the grimwalkers-- a brother who would stand by him and love him unconditionally.
That's a very good perspective. I really like it. It's clear Caleb had good intentions, and that he sees Philip as someone who could do anything if he forged his own path, (And perhaps he noticed that Philip is overly dependent on him) but the way he's doing this wasn't the right way.
And it became worse when Philip finds out the reason Caleb is avoiding him is because, around this time, he was likely already spending time with Evelyn.
I really like your headcanon that one of the motivations Philip has for creating the Grimwalkers is because he desperately wants to be understood by his brother─to hear from him that he supports Philip no matter what.
Exactly! Philip before getting to the Boiling Isles is just as Luz at the start of the show, but the difference here is that one is a young adult, the other a teen, Philip at this point SHOULD be acting like an adult, but he still has this child like mentality, even after 400 years, he still hides under a mask similar to the one Caleb did for him as a kid, for when he gets scared, Philip never trully matured, Luz did, and she also had the support of the people around him, Philip on the other hand? Only had Grimwalkers created from the same bones of his dead brother, the amount of trauma Philip most have had from the Boiling Isles, all that effort to get his brother back, only to see him again, going against all he ever knew, it just made him snap.
Off topic of Phillip but I hope Luz found some humans during the timeskip that understand and accept her most likely Masha since I HC that Vee and Masha eventually entered a relationship after Vee reveals her true nature to them and that they were the Luz at camp they are shocked by this revelation but they accept Vee for who she is and after learning about the boiling isles from Vee and the real Luz they decided to start over with Luz as well to get to know the real deal and the two eventually become close friends and Masha becomes Luz’s first human friend. Eventually Vee tells Masha’s other friends the truth they also become Luz’s friends as well as they accept Luz and Vee, they all stick together throughout high school and the Noceda sisters eventually show them the boiling isles and introduce there witch friends to the trio(though Masha had already met them at the GHS before they knew that they were witches) Masha befriended Amity and after Grom 2.0 Lumity and Veesha went to senior prom at Gravesfield high and Masha and there red haired friend show up for Luz’s king-cenera after the collectors light show ended and Masha plans to stick around for a while and attend the human/demon exchange program at Eda’s school and learn magic with Luz while maintaining they’re relationship with Vee and goes exploring the isles with Luz and Amity.

Philip was a bit of a weirdo who liked snakes but couldn't fit in and was constantly misunderstood by his community and felt like the only person who ever understood him wanted nothing to do with him. Ugh, I love the "two sides of the same coin" trope

We seriously need this origin story
It amazes me how well written Belos is, you just always feel like you learn every single little new thing about it. It just makes me so angry that Disney decided to shorten season 3 out of spite, we could've got more backstory about Philip and Caleb but nop but i still thank you for giving us a story for them. Hopefully you get enough rest and you are not overworking yourself but if you have more animation for come, i will always check them. They are all so interesting and voice acting is perfect

Dear God, I love these animations that expand on the scant amount of information we got on the Whittibane brothers' backstory.
The loss of their parents both paralleling Luz losing her dad, but also setting Luz and Phillip apart because he chose to be bitter about the loss (possibly implying they were abandoned rather that strictly orphaned). Phillip and Luz both having been horribly outcast, with the circumstances of Phillip's life having reinforced over and over that hatred and bitterness to anything abnormal is good, driving Phillip to start witch hunting and also implying a deep-seeded self-hatred (which he then projects onto others who are different) since he was an outcast. How the Collector's meddling took that internal difference from the norm and unintentionally brought it to the surface, turning him into a literal monster that would have been persecuted just as much as the witches he hunted.
This whole pseudo-canon storyline you've been putting together I'd say is a major breath of fresh air. It's obvious that the intention with Belos is that by the onset of the show, he's irredeemable since he's committed horrible acts and refuses to accept wrongdoing, but I love these because they show how much upbringing and circumstance can dictate a person's future. It makes it more apt to compare Luz and Belos beyond a surface level because these make it seem far more likely that had Luz been in Phillip's place, she very well could have become just as irredeemable.
Belos deserved the ending he got, but Phillip was a victim of circumstance and of his upbringing. Phillip died when Caleb did and took anything human with him, leaving Belos.
Phillip being characterized to not fit in and basically to be a direct parallel to Luz is my favourite thing ever
I'm so upset about the finale. I really hoped that Dana would tell us more about Philip's story, and also come up with a much more interesting nightmare of Loos than what we were eventually shown. Yes, and the death of Philip, as well as the victory over him, I saw a "little" differently Т_Т

Caleb needed space after raising Philip so young, but Philip barely remembered their parents and Caleb was his only family, and most likely had a hard time fitting in so I definitely see him as someone with huge abandonment issues. That and the fact he kept Caleb’s coat for over 400 years
@@MagpieInGravesfield Philip definitely suffers from abandonment issues, the fact that he did so many grimwalkers means that he did one every time another betrayed him, he needed that image of Caleb around him on a constant basis. Not to mention what you say about the coat

For a moment i tought that the voices were the originals, also i love the paralel that both Philip and Luz had a hard time fiting in until they discovered the boiling islands (each one in their own and very different way)

These voice actors r so convincing they might as well be the voice actors of them-
I'm in tears. The animation is gorgeous! And the story is simple yet stunning for highlighting both characters of Philip and Caleb. Dare I say you humanised Belos in some way? It is also very lovely how you draw parallels between Philip and Luz with their inability to fit in.

I don't know why but hearing the outro being played on a guitar for background music made my heart sink.
The fact at the ending scariest thing because Phillip just there with his brothers body and he was gonna dig up a hole and the music too that sent chills! but good animation!

I’m sorry but….THIS IS JUST SO AMAZING. The voices are amazing (Philip sounds a bit younger than he did in Elsewhere and Elsewhen and the Caleb voice sounds like it could be his actual voice if we get to hear it in the show!), the animation is amazing and looks just about real, and just….everything! I’ve rewatched this several times, it’s just too good to not be in the actual show! Awesome job on this! 💖

I don't know how or if we will be shown Philips past and how he became that monstrous person in the present. It's more likely now that Disney is recognising this story's potential but I hope to see something similar like with what you have done.
And I hope just as much to see what the rest of the boiling isles are like such as the other witch schools.
