It's implied that Hunter's good nature comes from Caleb, meaning Caleb's Big Brother Instinct was strong and he held a lot of love for Philip. It makes Philip's betrayal all the worse to see the depths of his brother's love through Hunter.
Yeah, Hunter quite literally has Caleb's dna in him since Caleb's bones were used to make Hunter and the other grimwalkers. It makes sense Hunter's personality is similar to Celeb....it makes Belos's actions all the more twisted as you said.

3:15 this is why he’s my favorite character. you think he’s this annoying side antagonist that’s just gonna cause more unnecessary conflict for the main protagonist. but he’s actually hella interesting. in the past he THOUGHT he was on the good side, he always seemed to be motivated by ‘family’ which is depressing bc he never rlly got to experience it. when you think about it, if he’s that sincere about people’s safety, imagine how he is with non-rebellious witches, he’s honestly a good person with a heart, but has a mission. and we were able to see that develop slowly. and he’s actually a nerdy dork that wants to be loved and give love but couldn’t get the opportunity to in a healthy way. this poor boy was so brainwashed into thinking what was right and what was wrong. i love hunter.
He's my favorite character too. Dude deserves way better than he's gotten.

He's basically like Caleb's twin brother or his biological son. We can often inherit character traits from our parents and it can be assumed that Hunter inherited Caleb's traits and developed his. Caleb's other clones also had their own personality, they just partially inherited Caleb's character
