Love the videos Hayley, you were recommended by Michelle who I play football with 👍 I've taken a massive career change aswell to do this but with a company who are paying for all the driver training through an apprenticeship.. got Cat C training end of Jan, your videos are really helping so thank you 😁
I had my first class 2 day on agency yesterday. Literally no training and experienced all of the stuff you have gone through! It’s certainly a learning curve. Thanks for the videos
Yeah with the rear wheel steer, what goes around comes around quickly. Seen bollards been taken out, parked cars. You really need it with the length you have though. Refreshing honesty I have to say, watched from beginning to end.
Very interesting video Hayley. Any new driver should watch this! Eye opening to say the least! Loved the gear changing sounds, made me laugh! 😁👍 Looking forward to the next one. All the best. Craig.
Hi Hayley Welcome to trucking! I've loved watching your videos so far, seeing how complete newbies view our great industry. It looks as though you've been thrown in at the deep end, but you've survived so far, well done. Given your previous job, I'm sure you've realised the shortcomings in the training given, perhaps you could do a video on how you would like to have been trained, once you get a handle on the job of course, there is so much information and detail that's not given, it's almost criminal, and, as you've discovered, leads to the "OMG, what have I done moments".
Well done, I remember passing my class C and thinking, o wow. I now drive C+E. It's a massive learning curve and dont be scared to ask another driver if you are unsure.
@@TruckDriverHayley No lol But the first time a driver sees a curtainsider with the straps and the various types of straps and getting the curtain pole out and putting the the curtain pole back in etc and ratchet straps are things a new driver can struggle with the first time they see them plus how to operate a taillift etc But these type of videos get lots of views etc Plus the type of food drivers eat etc
Hi Hayley. Just found yr videos & would like to say yr an inspiration to me. Looking for a career change so did the training & passed cat c first time 2 weeks ago. Love the way you tell it as it is. Appreciate all yr work here. Thank you
And that's it!!!...Being familiar with..the magic words Hayley........when you been in the job 4 month you will be reet....we would say "what have I done" if we left driving to go teaching....with any new job where you have changed careers you get that feeling off "oh my God what have I done".
8 speed manual are my nightmare really difficult to change gear and remembering the up/down button, I passed my test in one old argos daf wagon , luckily I have been driving 6 speed dafs which are easy
Hi hayley I am new subscribers to your channel and I also drive a class two at my yard in Shrewsbury and I cannot wait for next week vlogs and keep up the good work.
Hayley... Passed my test on Friday. I'm an ex teacher too. Tuesday the agency I have been van driving for said we have a van job. It wasn't a van. It was a DAF rigid with a manual box. So that was storm ... cant remember the name of the storm. No driver trainer. Solo drive. Never used a tacho. No eject button on the tacho! The left mirror was hanging on with zip ties and every time I used the breaks the mirror moved forward and I couldn't see the left hand side of the truck. It was a flat bed with a sheet. The wind was howling and rain was pouring due to the storm. Google maps took me through Birkenhead tunnel. Trucks apparently are not allowed through the tunnel because of a weight limit. 10 drops of 25 foot long pieces of iron and only one drop had a forklift. Handball all day. Tiny little units of main roads with maybe a foot at either side of the truck. The air tanks kept discharging so if I was parked for more than five minutes the truck wouldn't pull away due to low air pressure.....Yeah what a first day.
Congratulations Chris, yes, I remember you commenting before. To eject on my tacho I hold the number 1. I don't have an eject button either. I hope your days have been better since this one! Talk about been thrown in at the deep end! Are you enjoying it? :)
Truck Driver Hayley well baptism by fire maybe? After that my second day was an Isuzu grafter 3.5 ton. Windows. Starting in Manchester and two drops in London. Left the yard at 11:00 and arrived at London ok and did my first drop. Went to do my second drop and a van caught fire on the m25. Melted three lanes of tarmac. The road had to be closed and resurfaced. I got home at 1am. Actually this may sound weird but....yes I'm absolutely loving every second! I hope yo are too.
Keep trying! Go to the companies and meet them face to face. Take your licence, a copy of your CV, tacho card and CPC card and ask them to take a copy and call you if something comes up. You never know, they may like the look/sound of you. After all, it's easy to skip an email or phone call isn't it? :)
I remember when i start in my first day with just little experience from driving school and license and cpc training in Romania it's just driving and theory, no practice. So first day agency sent me to a company, class 1, shop delivery's. They tell me i will be with another driver. Nice joke, they give me the paperwork, keys and number plate and "go!". 😅 First delivery to a Morissons. Reversing a class one on the left hand side to the bay. Narrow space, i think i go down to look 20 times. 😅 Bonus, DPF regeneration started and one guy from Morissons start to yell at me "fireeeee, fireeeee, smoooke, you broke the lorry"... 😂 😂
I've been watching your blog from episode 1, as I'm considering doing HGV training. They are helpful. One practical; point, though: they are a bit quiet - could you possibly turn the recording volume up a bit?
@@TruckDriverHayley just watched your latest video. I hope whatever you do next goes well. I've decided to do some LGV training (almost certainly class C rather than C+E;) I've got the medical booked in a couple of weeks.
Hi Hayley! Thank you so much for your videos!! As a female myself I’m seriously considering do the same but worries as I know it’s a very male dominated career..my fiancé is French and is living the U.K. with me but we are both moving in France in a year, my French is not great and I need to work I’m thinking this would be a good opportunity! Originally we was looking for just him to do the course but now I’m seriously considering, your videos has really boosted my confidence
It is very male dominated, but don't let that put you off. I've never experienced any negativity, as long as you're willing to get stuck in of course! That sounds like a good idea for a job. All the best to you, I'm here if you have any more Qs :)
@@TruckDriverHayley aww thank you! I’m a community district nurse, and I can relate to one of your videos about bringing work home, the constant emails and phone calls ect, so I’m already used to driving around to homes, having to problem solve, routing, prioritising, I even do all my documentation in my car and have lunch I’m not that much of social butterfly i much rather be on my own hence community not wards (personal nightmare) I have my D2 and medical form, LVG theory app which I will start on this week and get booked in for the end of the month 🤞

you seem to have a lot of help with on the job education/training ect , i was with a agency i never got any of that help, it made everything so much worse, they really need some sort of driver training scheme for new drivers, you dont get any of this on the job education from a lot of places. and it would really benefit new drivers
I left my car mechanic career after 25yrs for hgv & thought ‘what have I done!’, but no regrets.., currently driving a manual with splitter too, all the nerves and doubts go with a bit of time but you’ll always get people on site who don’t have hgv license but think they’re experts!.., it all takes a bit of time.., gain some experience then you can go where you like & drive what you like if you go on to get class 1.., I did both but will now drive what pays more & best hrs etc!, you’ll settle in no time just stick with it!
Ive just had my first lesson. 3.5hours of driving including some tight roads with cars parked on both sides, tight corners etc. Then the easy bit was the reversing. My head is banging from all the concentration and I still have alot to learn. Makes me think, can I even do this as a job?
1st gear goes ‘Neerrrrrr’
2nd gear goes ‘Neeeeerrrrrr’
Almost killed me 😂😂 Brilliant!
Hahaha! Didn't know how else to explain it! :D

Nice one Hayley! All I'm gonna say is, watch this video back in a year and you will laugh! You sound exactly like me in my first week. :D
