One of the coolest synths ever. Totally worth investing the time to get in depth. It's like having a room full of Prophet VS's connected together that are also loaded with M1 era Korg waveforms.
Thanks so much for this video dude! I grabbed this on sale a while ago played with it thought it was cool and then sort of forgot i had it, your video has me excited to get home this evening and get stuck back in!
One of my favorite music-sound e.t.c channel on youtube. Especially big thanks for Korg vst instruments. First it look like very old and unusable. But you show us how to rule them and this is holy grail.
Thanks for this video, I have been in Triton world since I bought it a couple weeks back but will use this as a guide for the Wavestation. It is such a cool synth with great presets but isn’t the most user friendly to personalize sounds. This is a great help, thanks!
@@cometoviddyWhen Korg updated the iM1 to AUv3, I contacted them and asked if the iwavestation was going to be updated too, their reply was “We are constantly updating our products, please stay tuned for updates”, so, 🤞it won’t be too long to wait 🍻
I had the hardware version of this. I sold it along with my Roland SPD-8, Korg M3R rackmount, and Alesis SR-16, in 1995. Worst decision I ever made, especially the Wavestation. I also had a couple of PCM expansion cards (that weren't cheap at the time) to go with it. I remember flicking through the pre-sets and hitting the famous "Another Cup Of Coffee" (by Mike and the Mechanics) opening preset and thinking: "Wow!" I probably explored about 10% of the capabilities of this synth, which is on me, but even so, it was such a lovely piece of engineering. I miss it fondly.
This is one of the ones I hear people regret selling the most...ask me how I know! Can't agree anymore, truly a wonder of engineering. I still often think about the undiscovered sounds contained within...that's exciting!
The Wavestation keyboard and its sounds (especially the smooth evolving ones) are part of the inspiration to the synth plugin I developed - I made a lot of evolving multi-layer patches - Thought-Forms if you are interested I can share an NFR. The Wavestation plugin is also a permanent member of my plugins collection - still sounds fresh (if you avoid the over-used rhythmic patches).
Same! wavesequencing is a bit gimmicky if we're being honest - and not the easiest thing to get good sounds out of....it's possible....but not the easiest
thanks for the video! i enjoyed watching it. i use almost exclusively roland/korg vst instruments and dexed vst in my broken beat/nu jazz/funk/downtempo etc style music and they fit together perfectly and sound great 🍫☕🍹🥂🥤🍇
Got the korg wavestate mk2 rack/desktop and it works with wavestation patches. This is cool visually, but i like the tactical feel of having the knobs and the wavestate has a editor that goes more in depth with the patches.
@ego_share2953 You can get them there, but it's not always straight forward Google "wavestate editor wavestation convert" can take time, but it's do-able. Just weed out the bad presets and keep the good ones. Maybe one day Korg will update the editor to do all the manual work for you.
huh interesting, was not aware you could import OG WS patches into the wavestate. i still have yet to buy or dive into the Wavestate VST beyond the trial - and candidly I think the hardware is a bit too expensive for what it is....BUT....I find myself gassing....feel like I should give it a fair, honest shake
Another excellent tutorial. I love the sounds of the wavestation but its under the hood system is very confusing, i got a bit more of an understanding now, cheers :-)
spend a few hours doing some basic tweaking like I showed in this video and you'll be a wavestation god. the out of the box presets are so damn good though...so im also with you
they're similar in a lot of ways, largely in that the oscillators are generated from samples. where they begin to differ is specifically in the wavestation, which uses some additional unique synth techniques like wavesequencing + vector synthesis. the wavestation tends to do very well in creating long, atmospheric / cinematic sounds that morph and evolve over time. the triton can do this too, but the wavestation just does it better. both are great tools, pikachu! deduct away :)
@@Thought-Forms Thanks. I'm asking because Ableton just updated to Live 12 and I really like the midi tools. I also recently got FL Studio for the plugins and lifetime free updates, but I want a more traditional DAW as well and I'm currently thinking of moving on from Studio One.
@@Thought-Forms I lived through that, it was brutal, but back then everything was sort of that way. Old Ensoniq sampler menus, the era with floppy drives, were the worst.

Very well put & spot on! To this day, one of the most unique synths out there
Brother you have no idea how much I look forward to your uploads. They always make my day no matter the topic, cheer!
Thank you, Lynk! Really appreciate it hommie 🙏
I absolutely LOVE the Wavestation.
One of my favorite VST-plugins of all time.
Thank you brother ❤ I was begging you for this video during the summer sale and I appreciate it! 😊
Love your tutorials bro always learning something new with each vid

Cheers man! Stoked to hear you're dusting the ole Wavestation off. It's one of best synths to get lost in, so much possibility

For sure! Triton & Wavestation is a killer combo and there is a ton of overlap with designing sounds on both. Have fun 💪🏻
Useful! All your videos are very interesting and your patches are great! Thanks!
hey man! thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words
I've had the iWavestation on ipad for years but hardly ever used it, this has given me the will to get digging into it, thanks!
solid!! ive heard the ipad version is a bit easier to use compared to the VST
I’m surprised Korg still hasn’t updated the desktop plugin to match the updated iOS version

This is the content i like 👍
💪
Fantastic64, cheers!
i love your videos
thank you g!
Instant Kenji Kawai pads. If the hardware wavestate has similar sounds I may have to get that eventually, as I don't do much software stuff anymore...
Really, really good "vintage" synth, but saving patches could be more modern 😅 However, your videos are really inspiring. Thumbs up 👍
I feel like they gave up on modernizing the Wavestation and put all that effort into the Wavestate Native LOL Thanks daniel!
Another excellent tutorial. I love the sounds of the wavestation but its under the hood system is very confusing, i got a bit more of an understanding now, cheers :-)
Bro I'll buy this because of you, also I'll get some of your presets for it! Sucka Dj!!!
I have this, I like it! I only use the presets though
same here

@@Thought-Forms one day when I have time I might go beyond the presets. If I do I will use this video as my guide!
I don’t get why someone wouldn’t try altering things a bit and see what happens, the knobs are right there.
@@Vingul I personally prefer to focus on making music
Need more 90s romplers
getting those playstation 1 vibes
was going to say the same the start of that sound has very similar elements to the ps1 sound
yes! the wavestation is the sound of PS1 in a box
Hi! Please, make a video about the Euro-House genre from the period 1990 - 1995
I wish the presets u got 4 sale worked on the hardware, cant get myself to use the vst version when I have the hardware
The Lite Tines low key my favourite sound on this vst
love it, killer piano sounds on the wavestation
stupid question, what's the difference between the Wavestation and Triton? Either way, I buy them now to deduct expenses for my business 😅

$50 DOLLARS???? WHERE??????
(Great video btw❤)
Korg's website directly! Thank you mate
@ got it!!!!! 😃
this is the only vst i use
Let's GO
nice. btw, would say bitwig is worth it or would you suggest ableton???
thanks! bitwig. ableton feels like a clunky mess after using bitwig for years

I haven’t tried Bitwig (yet) but after a month of the Live trial, Ableton is hella dope. Easy to get into.
Do you have a Mac? I'm wondering if wavestation and M1 will run on a Mac M1 without issue
Yea I have an M1, the Wavestation runs great on it
does this thing have drums?
it does! some really good ones at that
noooooo, i dont wanna buy more VSTs

One of the few actually worth it, do it!!! Pads
Horrible preset management system
imagine having to do this on the hardware 30 years ago - brutal
