Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time UA-camr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. With the exception of one Peter Thomas Roth product and prescription Tretinoin, my dermatologist is all about “drugstore” skin care. Eucerin, Vanicream, Cetaphil, Neutrogena, and Cera Ve. As she says “ you can’t go wrong with any of their products. Great video as usual Jen ❤

I love the Vanicream cleanser and cream!!! I also tried the shampoo and conditioner. I didn't care for the shampoo because it's very low sudsing, but the conditioner was good.
I also love Aquaphor, Eucerin Daily Hydration lotion, Eucerin Daily Hydration SPF 30 sunscreen, and Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream in the fragrance free version.
You most definitely CAN go wrong with Nutrogena

My mom passed away Monday. She was my best friend... And I know it sounds weird, but Jen, you remind me of her in a comforting way. I developed my love for makeup from her. Some moments I feel at peace and thinking I'll be ok. The next? Panic attacks so bad I can't catch my breath.

I am so sorry Klarissa, and even though I don't know you, I am sad with you. Make an extra effort to be nice to yourself. Maybe a bubble bath, and be sure to put makeup on, even if you don't feel like it to honor your Mum. You will feel better and I'll bet she will see and appreciate.

Did you see the article about the beauty industry in the Wall Street Journal today? It detailed big trouble. Beauty sales tend to be more resilient than other discretionary purchases, because people are reluctant to alter their grooming habits, but beauty purchases are way down since before the pandemic, and especially this year. The reason beauty purchases are down for a variety of reasons; China demand has not rebounded, ‘changes in consumer tastes and spending patterns’, and a rise in theft! Executives think consumers are buying less expensive products, and specifically mention a move towards ELF.
Ulta stock is down 19% in the past 3 months, Sally Beauty down 16% and Estee Lauder down 27%, all in a year when the S&P is up 20%.
I certainly am buying less, and wonder. what are others experiencing? Are you buying less?
I buy less makeup now, but I have also reached a point where I don’t find joy in buying things as much as I used to. I have been using my single shadows to make my own palettes lately, and have been enjoying using what I already have
Definitely spending a lot less. Cost of living has increased to a point that my disposable income is a quarter of what it was just two years ago. Plus, I have all I need and only want to replace mascara and foundations for the forseeable future. The bubble had to burst at some point. No such thing as exponential runaway growth forever. No idea why these huge businesses expect the gravy train to be bottomless.
I'm buying less. I have so much already.
I was also diagnosed with skin cancer at 30. Of course, it was 2020. It was on my nose and had to have a pretty major procedure to remove it and reconstruct. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

My ears always perk up at the mention of a powder foundation that works for dry skin! I love that you can buy refills. Her powder blushes are really nice as well.

I have two Jane Iredale powder foundations. One for winter and one for summer. They are beautiful to wear. No irritation and it actually gets better on my skin over the course of a day. I wear no primer or such thing under it. Performs beautifully every time.
Do please try the blushes from Jane Iredale. The best powder blushes I've ever used. And I am a hard core Chanel fan girl.

As a mature woman ( 54) I have found a new holy grail foundation from Age 20s ( Korean Brand on Amazon) Would enjoy to see your thoughts on it. It is a dewy and skin like formula with skin care, (not a long wear, but gets me thru the workday.) Not lots of shades either but #21 or #23 are great for fair skin. 10 out of 10 Highly Recommend🎉

I love those winged liner stamps! Not only do I also have hooded eyes but I have limited mobility in my arm and could never do a wing before. These are amazing! I’ve tried several brands and I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of them. So clever!
I have loved Jane Iredale’s products! Everything I’ve ever had from her line has been wonderful. Definitely worth it for my aging skin.

Dammit, now I've got to buy that Rock Candy palette. I purchased the You're Golden palette recently (and I LOVE it) so I wasn't planning on investing in another one of the big palettes any time soon. And yet HERE WE ARE. Until I saw your swatches I didn't really see that it was kind of a perfect balance between neutrals and some more colorful (but not crazy) options that will be great for every day looks.
I'm also a HUGE fan of that Lottie London mascara. It's so good and the length and volume is insane! Kelly Gooch turned me on to that one and it has not let me down! Now I want to check out that stamp liner because I cannot draw a wing to save my life. The CeraVe toner is really good but the absolute BEST toner is the Good Molecules Niacinamide brightening toner. As someone who is also in her mid-40's with dry skin and rosacea let me tell you there is nothing better. My skin absolutely loves it and I will never, ever be without it. Seriously. Cannot recommend it enough! It's not a "drug store" product per se but it is VERY affordable and you can get it at Ulta. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend! Good Molecules also makes my favorite exfoliating powder, also amazing and also super affordable.
I actually alternate (am GM and pm C) both toners because they are each so wonderful. 54 years old with sensitive, combo/dry and post menopausal sweaty skin.😅 And it looks like I going to need that Rock Candy Palette, too.

Just took the Hawaiian Tropic mineral sunscreen (I liked the light coconut 🥥 scent) with brush loved that it was easy touch up for face all day like you said.

OMG!! I LOVE the Rock Candy palette too❤ I got it on sale, and it was a steal! I'll have to try that Cerave toner, and Eucerin cream~ and that wing stamp too! I purchased quite a few items from Laura Geller, and got it for half price on their sale..I think it's still going on, but unsure about that. Can't wait!! Bought 2 lip products, stick cream blush, and face palette, with bronzer, blush, 2 highlighters, and 3 eyeshadows....for $59.00...Another STEAL!! And I've got some things from Catrice too~ shopped through your link, and can't wait to try out one of their palettes: Sandy Daze...I'm one of those people who likes shopping online for drugstore makeup😅
Kelly Gooch made me try that mascara and I LOVE IT! I have short and straight lashes, but I do not need to curl my lashes with this mascara!! Sad that Ulta no longer sells it.

@@engelneen1686 I don’t find it hard to remove. I usually add my oil cleanser to my eyes and let it sit for a few seconds while I clean my face. I then go back and rub the mascara off slowly.

I've been wearing powder foundation since my late 30s. Didn't wear any foundation before then - blessed with good skin, but then had a miscarriage and developed rosacea. I loved the Jane Iredale foundation. It was the only time somebody actually asked me what I was wearing on my skin and that it looked "airbrushed". I moved on to another mineral foundation, as the bismuth oxychloride in it used to make my skin itch by the end of the day. I also found a much cheaper one that I liked. Now, there is so much choice for powder/mineral foundation and I have tried quote a lot of them! I recently bought a JI refill as I saw the foundation no longer contains bismuth. Btw I also got on v well with her eyeshadows. At one time, I only used to wear either Jane Iredale or Bareminerals eyeshadows and foundations. Emma x
Jen, just thought id bring this to your notice...powder sunscreens dont give the required level of protection we need. Think we should use them only as a setting powder for liquid sunscreen. Especially for someone prone to cancer...please dont get swayed by the powder sunscreen hype and use a proper layer of liquid suncreen in your parting. 💙

Although those SPF powders are better than nothing, the amount you apply is not nearly enough to keep protecting you. Lab Muffin Beauty is a cosmetic chemist who makes a lot of great education videos on this and other topics- highly recommend checking her out and her suggestions on how to more properly protect yourself from the sun!
I would love to watch a full face of Jane Iredale❤ I recently used the foundation for the first time, and fell in love. It looked so good and natural, and the colour match was so good. I thought I had a cool undertone, because I have so much red in my skin because of rosacea, but neutral Ivory was perfect.

Tarte has been coming out with some very nice products recently. I've really been enjoying the Maneater Silk Blush and Bronzer sticks...they go on very smooth and are very blendable. I've also really been loving the Maracuja Juicy Glow highlighter in champagne glow...very pretty and subtle...no sparkles or glitter

Jen thank you for your video! I must say Cerave skin care saved my skin a few months ago! My face had a red raw itchy rash all over and after trying various creams and lotions from the doctor (which didn’t help) I tried Cerave moisturisers and snuck in a couple of serums and slowly my skin improved. Now at around the same time I was diagnosed with Thyroid Disease and put on medication which has also helped my skin integrity. But I’m sticking with Cerave and have started using their moisturising cleanser which leaves your skin feeling so soft however I now have to try the toner.
Jen, you might want to try the honey bee powder foundation. Loving it. Looks beautiful over a tinted sunscreen. Much cheaper and beautiful coverage.

Yes, fragrance is very personal. I can't stand vanilla. That is, artificial vanilla, it gives me very bad headache. Once I stood in a long line behind a woman with heavy vanilla perfume on and had a splitting headache and dizziness for the rest of the day. I actually like vanilla scent, but chemical combination to make a vanilla smell hates me😂
Nothing is worse than being subjected to someones powerful perfume that you dont get along with 😂
My husband had skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) on his lip, and had it surgically removed. It ended up being a bigger surgery than we had expected. Now we are OCD about wearing SPF lip balms. I hope your surgery goes well, and that they successfully remove all the cancerous cells! I certainly know what it feels like to get news like that~

I had been thinking of that, whether there was any products for scalp . I just started looking, I found a spray from coola scalp and hair mist organic sunscreen SPF 30 at Ulta $22.50. so there might be more products out there.

Have you ever tried Laura Geller powder foundation or her Balance and Brighten baked foundation? They work so well on my over 65 skin. No setting into lines!

W7 Howdy Eyeshadow Palette is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Wild West Palette and W7'S Nudification Pressed Pigment Palette is a dupe for the Too Faced Born This Way Neutral Nudes Palette. My favorite high end foundation is the Urban Decay Stay Naked Liquid Foundation in 31NN and my favorite drugstore foundation is Catrice Cosmetics Hydrating True Skin Foundation. I do love Lottie London's blush since it's so beautiful and glowy on the skin. Colourpop's Act Natural Mascara is so beautiful. If I wear waterproof mascara nothing beats out the Elf Big Mood and Lash Beats Waterproof Mascara.
I have been curious about the cerave toner AND that eucerine cream! Also, I love that rock candy eyeshadow palette, those are my colors as well!

Maybe try a skin scent, since it's a very light close to the body that doesn't project as strongly. I get migraines frequently and have been trying to find a fragrance I can wear and like Clean Reserve's Skin. It's light and beautiful and and wears down quickly and stays close to the body. ❤

Im a L'Oreal telescopic addict! 😂its been like 15 years and i still go back! I have hooded eyes and ive found that if i hold the mirror down by my uhhh TWINS and look downward but keeping your head up, i get way less on my barely there lids! Bonus points if you also make the double chin goofy face !! Hahaha
Have you ever tried Dragun Beauty Xplicit Mascara? It’s a tubing formula AND has an extremely thin wand just like the L’Oréal Telescopic. For YEARS L’Oréal Telescopic was my HG, but when I found out about tubing formulas I was on a hunt to find one with a similar kind of wand as the L’Oréal Telescopic. I had pretty much given up when a friend told me about the Dragun Beauty one so I got it and it is AMAZING! It’s just like L’Oréal Telescopic EXCEPT it’s a tubing formula and it’s great! Lasts all day, doesn’t smudge or flake, and comes off super easy like a true tubing formula should! Since I discovered it, it’s all I’ve been using and I NEVER thought anything could replace my L’Oréal Telescopic!

Jen, it never dawned on me the reason why I always get mascara on my eyelids could be because of my hooded eyes until you mentioned it in this video. I assumed it was because I was bad at applying mascara. Thank you so much for helping me see other possibilities that are not my fault. BTW, I picked up the Jane Iredale powder after Lisa J’s video and really like it for my dry skin, too. I’d definitely like to see a video on a whole face of her products. Take care!😊

I absolutely love the Tarte Maneater Blush and Glow! I picked up the Strawberry shade and it is chef's 💋. It is a pinky red instead of a true red. Love love. ❤️
Yes! to Jane Iredale powder and mist. I bought it for the first time at the beginning of summer, and now this is all I use for a quick out the door makeup over my tinted sunscreen. The mist does make a difference, it makes everything look seamless and lasts longer. Ulta sells JI online, and I’ve seen a few sales in the last few months. Mandy Davis MUA here on youtube loves JI, this is her fave powder foundation and she was the first one I saw talk about it.
If you want to try a good mostly clean skin care Brand. I highly recommend pacifica! Especially the toner I absolutely love it. I have Celiac s and it sometimes hard to find a brand that Doesn't have gluten in it And they are one that I can fully trust!

It's so good. I am 41 and started using it in my 20s. I kind of assumed I couldn't use powder foundation anymore bc my skin is sometimes drier, but it works great. I've always liked it as an extra powder over foundation or concealer to get a little more coverage in areas like my nose
I only buy drugstore skincare these days because it so much less expensive and there are some good brands. I just purchased the Eucerin tinted sunscreen and like it. The only Tatcha product I will not be without is their rice bran face wash/scrub.

I’d love to see a full face of Jane Iredale! I have the powder foundation and pommist spray, but my favorite product is the spf concealer. I actually use it as a color corrector under Natasha denona’s new concealer for regular days or alone on no makeup type days. I love that it covers, provides additional eye safe spf and doesn’t crease! For my nearly 44 year old eye bags, that is huge!
The layout of the ColorPop palette reminds me of Tati's Textured Neutrals palette. Jane Iredale was my first clean mineral brand. Unfortunately, I was sensitive to everything but the PureLash mascara. I love CeraVe and had my son using the brand as a baby. It's very expensive in my country which is a bummer, but I've found some alternatives to combine. What I've noticed after 40 is that my skin loves acids and retinol or retinol alternatives at night, which makes a better morning face. A vitamin C toner and serums, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen. The latter tends to change often depending on how hot it is. I found that I love gourmand perfumes, but I don't like ones with strong vanilla. I also like warm musky spicy colognes. So I would love to know if anyone has any fragrance combo suggestions.
