  • What were designated as Class 77 locomotives for the Manchester to Sheffield passenger services are depicted here in this very short section showing the departure of one such service and the release of the inward locomotive. Please note that this transfer is taken from silent 8mm film.

Ah lovely EM2s, what a shame the Woodhead route was closed.

Short but very sweet ,loved the end shot of the steam leaking from the pipe for train heating

Unsure of the exact date, but it was around 1980-81, I think.
Railtour starting at Marylebone behind 2x25s via Cherwell line to Coventry; 85 added to 85 failure to Stockport. 47 to Guide Bridge, 2x76s, the highlight via Woodhead to Tinsley, then Deltic to Doncaster for BREL works visit, then up the ECML over North London line, and, finally, Cherwell line to Birmingham New Street ( Deltic detached in Finsbury Park, 47 all the way to Brum. Epic thrash?!!)
Journey took about 18 hours because of delays and failures en route - the EM2s didn't let us down though!!
Anyone remember it? Were you on that excursion?

You didn't have EM2s, they had long ago left for Holland by 1980/1. You had Class 76s, which were EM1s.
