When you mentioned how mainstream and normal it is to talk about things like anime, videogames and virtual pets, it hit home. I live in a very rural area (think everyone wearing camo, almost hearing banjos playing in the distance and the like) and no one is into stuff like this. It's aggravating because I cannot find anyone to really connect with over things like this, and it's a bit sad. But I'm so glad communities like this exist where you can learn and enjoy things together, even if it's online.
Yeah I'm glad the internet exists for this exact reason! Most of my interests are niche so connecting with people across the world makes me feel less alone!
I'm so sorry you have that experience. I'll work harder to make sure this is a nice safe place for us to connect over our shared love of virtual pets. I feel like if we keep going virtual pets really will be mainstream for all someday :D

Jill, partly because of your sheer enthusiasm for the tamagotchi brand, I am now the proud owner of a tamagotchi uni and a tamagotchi pix. When I was a child I never had a tamagotchi, just the cheap knock off ones. My inner child is celebrating a huge party right now 🎉😅

The angel and monsters are for collectors imo, but the connection is for nostalgia and the hello kitty for the sanrio girlies. I think what they are aiming for is drawing all this different people into tamagotchi and create this thriving presence so when the new people come in (or the soft fans) they see so much hype they want to be more in, specially with the unis and the ticket system

Yes Bandai registered 10 different Uni versions with the FCC last year. I think we might have 4 left, which makes me think it's possible we will have another year of the Uni... maybe!

I feel like somthing BIG is coming and there hyping back alot of the old and ALSO new fans into the Tamagotchi world again with a bunch of releases for the reveal of somthing bigger. The tomagotchi twist. You flip it over, and there is a winding mechanism recessed inside where the batteries would be. You can keep a pet going as long as you wind your device. The battery struggle is real.

I think they picked this release date because it's right before summer vacation season nearly everywhere - when a lot of people have a lot of spare time to invest in a digital pet.
This quite an exciting vpet season we all have in store. I did preorder the Connection, the Detective Conan color nano, and a few gigapets too. I do plan on purchasing the tamaverse ticket dlcs when they release and definitely waiting on the Japan connection releases. I too have the punirunes and a lot more Japanese vpets in my collection. I think it would be cool if they had TamaUni skin shells so you could interchange the Angel and Monsters shells on normal Unis. Also to grow other pets from other tama devices. That would be cool.
I wasn't as interested in the Uni until the new angel and monster versions. I love that you can swap versions with the DLC cards, I will be using the monster DLC on the angel uni!

The angel festival one is SOOOO perfect. I have a smart one (Niziu), but I might try to buy this one. Do you think the Uni is fun over months? I barely play with my smart after a couple of months. Maybe because I could only understand how to navigate the menus, but couldn't understand the dialogues etc, since it's in Japanese. PS: I hope you get to collaborate with BANDAI

I agree they are trying to get us in the poor house for sure haha but it also makes you think maybe tama town even though they said its not in the works maybe that is coming in the fall/ winter??? Fun fact about Spin Master, they are also the minds behind Paw Patrol. I worked for a animation studio that started PAW for Spin over 10 years ago! Ya Spin Master is a big toy company!

It’s simple, they know that a lot of fans will not only order but pre order anything they put out, so it’s easy money for them. As far as tamagotchis being mainstream, I wish, but that’s definitely not my experience… when I brought mine to work someone said ‘oh god really’ and I had to pick it up very sneakily so I just stopped bringing it. It’s great that your work colleagues are nicer about it though.

Yea imho Bandai doesn't handle releases and preorders very well. It's why I stopped with the Digimon. Way too many releases too quickly and have to pre-order otherwise what's left after is scalpers (with digimon). Much as I love Tamagotchi and Digimon feels like they kinda cater to scalpers abit, at least specifically with Digimon. Just horrible management on releases which also makes it hard to complete collections need 2 more for the Digimon Color collection but... lol them scalper prices the only way and I ain't that crazy to pay that plus I just don't want to support scalpers. So yea if tamagotchi starts doing the same I'll unfortunately be done with it too. Tamagotchi is bigger though so I could see Bandai listening to fans from the Tama base. I did preorder 2 connections and the monster carnival. I will say Tamagotchi is definitely priced more appropriately than Digimon vpets and much easier to get.
Yes I agree the preorders can be a mess, but with Tamagotchi I have found that there is always enough even after preorders go out. I haven't ever seen anyone not get what they want after release. Usually the Tamagotchis are available for a few years after they release before they are discontinued and people start selling them for ridiculous prices. I didn't realize that the Digimon Color releases were having so many issues!
I got my Uni in May for my birthday and I was disappointed when I learned you're not able to play all the tamaverse areas at once, you have to redownload the new one and delete the current one each time and it sucks. I wonder how we're gonna be able to keep the content when the servers close down. I also think that it lacks the daily activities from pix and relies too heavily on new content from outside to stay engaging. While I like the idea of DLC's, it's very limiting you can use only one area at a time. Also they started designing games in a way they don't have to animate tamas with all of their accessories so the games don't have your tama in them. The backgrounds of specific rooms are also way less detailed than in the pix, but I love the extra animations of eg raising the lid of the toilet :P. I love the concepts of angel and monster tamas, the shells are cool too, but it's a downer the ticket won't allow me to mix all the areas at once. It seems cash grabby. While I no longer play the sims, I don't want it to end up the way they push out unfinished, not fully thought through stuff for a huge price. We will see.
You definitely raise a lot of concerns I've heard from the community about the longevity of the Uni. The Tamagotchi Smart had SmaCards that you could load, and it was only one at a time so I wasn't surprised when the Uni did the same thing. What stinks is that the Uni is all downloaded, while the Smart is a physical card I can continue to use for as long as the Smart lasts. I guess we will see what happens in the future.

With all of these coming out, they gotta come back with the online Tama spaces, Tama Town, maybe even a Tama app. They can really make a comeback!

Luckily it looks like you can buy the Angel characters in the form of a DLC ticket and use said code on any Uni that you own.

It’s simple, they know that a lot of fans will not only order but pre order anything they put out, so it’s easy money for them.
As far as tamagotchis being mainstream, I wish, but that’s definitely not my experience… when I brought mine to work someone said ‘oh god really’ and I had to pick it up very sneakily so I just stopped bringing it. It’s great that your work colleagues are nicer about it though.
Aww I'm sorry that happened to you. I wish everyone's experience was more like mine. I think I also meant by mainstream is that they are easy to get and not something hard to find. :) Don't worry, we'll keep working to make it more acceptable for everyone! :D

Yea imho Bandai doesn't handle releases and preorders very well. It's why I stopped with the Digimon. Way too many releases too quickly and have to pre-order otherwise what's left after is scalpers (with digimon). Much as I love Tamagotchi and Digimon feels like they kinda cater to scalpers abit, at least specifically with Digimon. Just horrible management on releases which also makes it hard to complete collections need 2 more for the Digimon Color collection but... lol them scalper prices the only way and I ain't that crazy to pay that plus I just don't want to support scalpers. So yea if tamagotchi starts doing the same I'll unfortunately be done with it too. Tamagotchi is bigger though so I could see Bandai listening to fans from the Tama base.
I did preorder 2 connections and the monster carnival. I will say Tamagotchi is definitely priced more appropriately than Digimon vpets and much easier to get.
Yes I agree the preorders can be a mess, but with Tamagotchi I have found that there is always enough even after preorders go out. I haven't ever seen anyone not get what they want after release. Usually the Tamagotchis are available for a few years after they release before they are discontinued and people start selling them for ridiculous prices. I didn't realize that the Digimon Color releases were having so many issues!

I got my Uni in May for my birthday and I was disappointed when I learned you're not able to play all the tamaverse areas at once, you have to redownload the new one and delete the current one each time and it sucks. I wonder how we're gonna be able to keep the content when the servers close down. I also think that it lacks the daily activities from pix and relies too heavily on new content from outside to stay engaging. While I like the idea of DLC's, it's very limiting you can use only one area at a time. Also they started designing games in a way they don't have to animate tamas with all of their accessories so the games don't have your tama in them. The backgrounds of specific rooms are also way less detailed than in the pix, but I love the extra animations of eg raising the lid of the toilet :P. I love the concepts of angel and monster tamas, the shells are cool too, but it's a downer the ticket won't allow me to mix all the areas at once. It seems cash grabby. While I no longer play the sims, I don't want it to end up the way they push out unfinished, not fully thought through stuff for a huge price. We will see.
You definitely raise a lot of concerns I've heard from the community about the longevity of the Uni. The Tamagotchi Smart had SmaCards that you could load, and it was only one at a time so I wasn't surprised when the Uni did the same thing. What stinks is that the Uni is all downloaded, while the Smart is a physical card I can continue to use for as long as the Smart lasts. I guess we will see what happens in the future.
