- Celebrating the life and service of Queen Elizabeth II with this #SlowAirSunday playing "Sleep Dearie Sleep". This beautiful lament was played by the Queens's own Piper PM (Pipe Major) Paul Burns as the last Slow Air before her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest. Played in the beautiful Cathedral of Westminster Abbey in London on September 19, 2022 by the 17th Piper Sovereign. This role of the Piper Sovereign (or in Scots Gaelic: Piobair an Bhàn Righ) was established in 1843 when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the Marquess of Breadalbane at Taymouth Castle a year earlier and discovered the Marquess had his own personal piper. This role is incredibly special. Every morning the Piper plays for 15 minutes beneath her window serving as the Queen's own personal alarm clock when she is in Scotland. I have no doubt that PM Paul Burns was honored to play one last time for his beloved Queen who embraced the Bagpipes and Scottish culture. The emotion behind each note was felt throughout the world as we sat mourning the loss of the Queen. From myself and many other Bagpipers across the world; We thank you PM Paul Burns for your beautiful and touching rendition of "Sleep Dearie Sleep". This beautiful Air will forever be in our hearts and remind us of Queen Elizabeth II.
The History behind this traditional tune is that it is a simple exhortation for the hearer to take some long-needed rest. Transliterated from a Scottish brogue, the lyrics read, "Sodger, lie doon on yer wee pickle straw / It's no very broad and it's no very braw / But, Sodger, it's better than naething at a', / Sae sleep, Sodger, sleep."
"Sleep Dearie Sleep" Lyrics:
Soldier Lie Down on your wee pickle Straw
It's not very Broad and it's not very Braw
But soldier it's better than nothing at all
So, Sleep Soldier Sleep
Dearie Lie Down on your wee pickle Straw
It's not very Broad and it's not very Braw
But dearie it's better than nothing at all
So, Sleep Dearie Sleep
(Repeat)
I am incredibly honored to bring this to my #SlowAirSunday in honor of the longest reigning Queen. Her service in WWII and her life of service will always be remembered. Queen Elizabeth has touched the world and her passing has impacted so many. I hope that this #SlowAirSunday brings peace to all who listen and are mourning this incredible woman.
As the sun sets over the Eastern Sierra Minarets and the light fades away, our hearts will always hold onto her memory and honor this beautiful soul.

Queen Elizabeth II was an exemplary human being and maybe the last example of how a great monarch should be. Never again will there be a grand lady like her. Sleep Dearie, Sleep. You have earned your rest in Heaven. A thousand times over you have earned that right!
For the 70 years that she was on the throne, she kept that promise! Rest in peace, Queen Elizabeth II they will not be another one like you!
She kept her son away from the throne as well
I agree - she was - and will ever be remembered and I will serve as a Chorister in a church for now on.
Beautiful and special tribute for the queen May she rest in peace and may her memory live on forever
Just finished watching the Crown and that this is the music chosen by Queen Elizabeth to be played at her funeral. 🥲❤️ beautiful music for her.
The ending made me cry
How about playing "A Salute to the Royal Fendersmith" heard at the Committal Service at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle as the coffin of the late HM the Queen is lowered to the Royal Vault, it's the most poignant moment we have ever seen.
I cried at this at the funeral. That was the last time she was in our presence. Was pleasantly surprised to see the show highlight this part. Rip Queen
70 years of service. RIP Queen Elizabeth II. 😔👑
She was a parasite.
Wow...such a beautiful lament with video clips of our departed Queen. She will be remembered for generations to come.
Beautiful tribute to an amazing lady and legacy! Thank-you, Tress 💜
For many of us, she was the only monarch that we have ever known! She was on the throne when I came along in 1986 and she has been the only monarch of the UK that I have known I started learning about the history of the United Kingdom about 10 to 12 years ago and the first thing that came up was Queen Elizabeth II And once I start learning, I started having a lot of respect for her so when the news came that she had passed away, it was a shock
Thank you for showing respect for our former A.C Queen Elizabeth the second
The Queen, the one I swore my life to when I joined the Military Family also my new job. God Rest Your Soul. Your job on the mortal plain is fine, now rest.
@@davidcox6647 She couldn't give a toss about commoners.
A great woman and a great example for all humanity.

thanks for share this. RIP Dear Queen Elizabeth.
Wonderful. I sit here in my Clan Stewart shirt listening with great pleasure and remembrance, in Tennessee.
What a beautiful tune. May the queen's reign be remembered.
Wishing I was on that hill myself.
What an environment so lovely.
Lucky piper you are!
I'm not a big fan of bagpipe music but I remember hearing this at a previous funeral, probably Prince Phillips's and thought it sounded beautiful. So sad but so peaceful.
I had to wait until The Queen passed until I could find out what it was and the title fits so perfectly.
I still haven't gotten used to Charles or the fact that it's now a king, which for some reason, doesn't make monarchy seem less antiquated.
In Australia, while we were happy to make jokes about the royals and all the tabloid ridiculousness, and we discussed forming a republic, at the end, the tribute we gave her was "Grandma of the Nation", because like any good Nanna, she was just there. And most of us hadn't known any other head of state.
This piece was beautifully played and a beautiful tribute. Thank you.
Your playing is beautiful, I have a friend here in Maine who has taken up playing and doing very well and will play my funeral should I go first

A Beautiful tribute ❤
Perfect.
The Royalists like to state; the Queen fulfilled her "duty" and performed exemplary "service". As a republican, I would like to know what is meant, when "duty" and "service" are being ascribed to the Queen?
If you need it explained to you - you’re lost. Perhaps if you gave up over 300 days of your life every year to official functions and state business you might have a clue. Or if you have shivered in a cold foxhole on a cold winter night. It doesn’t matter whether you are sick or don’t feel up to it. It doesn’t matter if you are old and tired. Perhaps then you might understand … but probably not … it seems to me the only person that makes such observations is one that has never served anything greater than themselves. They have no sense of duty or honor because it’s concept foreign to them.
Alas, unable to explain, so have to resort to belittling. Thus, you are unable to answer my question.@@Derek-je6vg
In answer to your question:
1. Serving within the armed forces.
2 Serving as patron to the Royal Armed forces all her life
3. Remaining present during the blitz alongside her people when offered an escape to Canada.
4. Forsaking any right to express any political position or opinion for her entire life.
5. As explained prior, being on constant call to attend all her ceremonial and state functions, including meeting Prime Ministers from the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, 24/7.
6. Serving as head of the Commonwealth, and playing a significant role in ending Soviet occupation and South African Apartheid.
7. Subordinating her own person to be second to representing the nations of the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and her other realms, 24/7 all her life.
It was not merely royalists who acknowledge her duty. Leaders of the Republic movements acknowledged it too.
@@TheSamuraijim87 1.) As a truck driver and mechanic. It would have been bad form if she did not enlist and serve. 2.) What actual duties as "Patron" was she required to perform? Was it most likely only ceremonial and her name at the top of the letterhead. For to truly perform "Service" & "Duty" I would expect her to be involved in the nitty gritty, day to day operations. 3.) Remaining present during the blitz. Most likely poppa and momma instructed her to remain and show some British fortitude. 4.) Forsaking any right to express a political opinion. As a constitutional monarch she knew what was expected of her. She most likely expressed herself during her meetings with the PMs or through other channels. Hardly merits consideration for "Duty" and "Service". 5.) "On call", only when asked to do so by her Government. I doubt it ever was a midnight call from the PM, telling her to be ready at 9 AM the next day. 6.) Titular head of the Commonwealth of Nations, a very ceremonial position. While being deftly prepared by her Government, without her expressing any "political" opinion of her own. Ending Soviet occupation where? Britian is the lap dog of the US and will follow the lead of the US. 7.) Subordinating herself, as required by the Constitution. She knew what she was getting into when she was instructed by tutors regarding her "constitutional duties". She was a figurehead and a name to be placed at the top of the letterhead.
Beautiful ❤️🏴
She did her job, with great dignity. RIP.
Thank you, Tress.
Great work .
RIP ELIZABETH
Beautiful! Maravilha!
I have received a very devastating news for me, my dear friend Angus Drummond past away on Christmas Day 😔🙏 he was like an angel, such a loving and positive man❤️ Rest In Peace, Sir 😔❤️🙏
So beautiful!
Her Majesty's legacy of dutiful and personal service to the whole world is a shining example for these times. Even for those of us outside the UK and the Commonwealth, she has been a steady light throughout our lives. This is a beautiful tribute.
Un bellissimo video e una bella melodia in suo onore 🙂🤗🤗❤️ bellissimo
