It is your oil, your greatest resource. You have to think you are the last bastion of fresh water fishing in the world.

I've fished the lower grand for many years and there is good walleye but haven't seen a brown here in roughly 15 years but I have caught rainbow and lake trout. I've had friends tell me to fish the Elora section for a good while now so might have to give it a go 👍
This river should be open all year . It would open up fishing opportunities and give access to the river during October through the winter when river temperatures are suitable for the trout. Correct me if I am wrong but I have not heard of any substantial natural reproduction from the browns in this area. Also the Steelhead should be given access to this upper river . More fishing options and more potential spawning grounds for the rainbows. If the browns cant reproduce perhaps the bows can make it work. And both fish spawn at different times of the year so the competition for the best spawning areas is not likely an issue. The season on this stretch of river is short and most summers is a no go do to high river temps and low water levels between July and September. The fish are put there for a reason . Lets use them
The tailwater being open year round has been debated for many years and likely will continue to be. You are correct though, that natural reproduction is not a considerable factor, but it has far less to do with the quality or strain of fish and far more to do with the geology. The tailwater simply doesn't have suitable gravel for spawning. That said, the idea of providing steelhead access is rather moot. There is no reason to assume that steelhead would have more success. There is no lack of steelhead rivers in our region. However, there are few rivers where one can consistently target 5lb brown trout during hatches and have a legitimate chance at hooking one.
@@robertheal261 Why not give them a chance ? They have proven to be quite adaptable in even sub par rivers. If they can not nature will take control of the issue. There is no reason why the stocked browns and potential wild rainbows can not coexist. If it was a self supporting native brook trout section i would be more inclined to agree .But not totally. Even then. These fish inhabit many rivers together without issue .Some of these streams are in the Grand watershed . How will the potential inclusion of steelhead reduce ones chances for the browns ? I don't see the connection. To be clear I am not proposing any changes to the regulations . If we have a trout species capable of adapting and sustaining itself we should be encouraging not prohibiting the action. The river not being open all year is even more complexing. Do you know what the ministries argument is on this one? Thanks
Boy, Bill's losta lot of weight. Cool episode - always enjoy that water. I have a trailer on the Rocky Saugeen - some of the best trout fishing in the area - lot of private property but I could get these guys access. This is a spring river - water is super clear - you can often see them. Not uncommon to see fish well over 5lbs - I've caught a few closer to 10lbs and too many to count this size.
Friends of the Grand River are just stellar human beings, cannot thank them enough for their work.

Great video Bill 🎣👍. My P.B Brown trout was back in England ( 2002 ) 7lb 3oz . Was fishing for Geyling at the time. On a trotting setup 3lb line.
