Meet the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly, along with our three adventurous children. Nine years ago, we embarked on an incredible journey, leaving our home in Alaska, USA, behind to explore the world. As teachers, we were fortunate to find amazing opportunities in Chennai, India, where we spent two enriching years. Seeking new experiences, we then made our way to the United Arab Emirates.
Just as we were settling into our UAE life, the pandemic struck, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Instead, we saw it as an opportunity for another chapter in our journey. We moved to Indonesia, where we currently hold teaching jobs, and it has been a time of learning, growth, and connection.
As a family, we thrive on traveling and embracing the unknown. Adventures are our way of life, and through our experiences, we aim to inspire our children to be confident in meeting new people, trying diverse cuisines, and immersing themselves in different languages and cultures.

Wow with that Alaska furniture prices, but at least you got Costco! the chicken, the pizza, the pastries, and desserts made up for all the difference. Soon you'll celebrate Christmas with the northern light decor up in the sky, what a lovely journey to home.
That breakfast looked yummy, but £30 is a lot of money for just one meal, I have less than that to live on for a week (UK)! Oh, how the other half live. WOW what fun to be able to furnish a complete mansion in a week. What cleaning, the cleaner has done it, the house is immaculate!
Alaska is definitely expensive! Yes, Shirley and her crew did an amazing job cleaning. I actually meant to attach that clip to the end of this video. I had it in the worry folder. :-)
Hi, I am a Alaska follower, that is my dream to live in Alaska. I am a Caribbean person, Born in Cuba and grew up in Miami, Florida. I am 66 years old and my husband tells me Im crazy about living in Alaska. LOL but I have never seen snow and I would not mind to like there, as long as my bathroom is inside. lol
That's great! We'd love to spend some time in the Caribbean. The very first cabin that Kelly and I rented in Alaska, pre-kids, back in 2007 had no running water and we had to use an outhouse all winter! 🥶 Times have definitely changed.
Have you every thought about an Alaskan cruise? 🚢 My parents took one several years ago, and absolutely loved the experience?

i used to live in Anchorage Alaska the last frontier is a wonderful place to live I go back and forth now from California and Philippines for work but maybe when I retire it’s either Philippines and Alaska will be my home

Amidst its pros and cons, I really want to try to live in the US. Seeing you guys have a house there makes me feel that in the right place, it could be the right home. I hope one day I could have a family that both thrilled to live in the US while preserving our home here too in Indonesia, hope you guys had a blast time in Alaska (We'll sure find it out in the upcoming vlogs XD)

Find a thrift store. That way you can buy a lot of pots and pans dishes and silverware for a lot less than regular store prices and it gives you flexibility. That way when you come back if you don't like what you got, you can be slower about replacing or changing. You can save a lot of money by buying a handful of silverware and spatulas and pick up tongs that Cetra as well as pots pans, skillets, baking dishes, cookie sheets, etc. by buying secondhand or the thrift store if you use them all well and good if not clean them up pretty put some thing on them and give them to somebody as a gift at a later date. Saying she has the cost an expense at this point in time.

So exciting furnishing your new place guys! Im intrigued is Alaska more expensive than the rest of the US? Probably too hard of a question with the US being such a massive place, each state would vary so much I guess. Loving the Alaska content! Are you guys only planning on one more year of teaching in Indonesia?

Thank you so much! Yes, Alaska is a more expensive state compared to were I grew up in the Midwest. However, it's less expensive then some of the big cities. We do hope to stay in Indonesia for a while longer, but eventually, we will call Alaska home full time.
Ok that’s interesting to know! We hope to head to the states in a few years when the kids are a bit older. Hopefully the Australian Dollar will be better against the US by then. It’s shocking at the moment!
It looks like a beautiful place to call home. I’m sure you will enjoy the rest of your time in Indonesia while your there though! 😅 You will have to make sure you learn how to make lots of Indonesian dishes before you head back to Alaska!
