The Storm, Dakar Rally Trucks

- This is the sixth episode in my UA-cam series talking about Motorsport History, also Part 3 of my Dakar series. I have mentioned how hard it was for the drivers of cars, and motorcycle riders to survive the tough conditions of Dakar Rally (Rally Raid). There were always storms breathing down their necks, but the worst of them all, were the trucks that stormed at speed of 200km/h. Featuring the Pinzgauer 712, ACMAT TMC, Mercedes-Benz Unimog, Volvo C303, Tatra 815, Perlini 105 F Red Tiger, and the great DAF trucks of the time, the F3300, FAV3600, and the Turbo Twin X1. Some with video clips of pure sound. The clips can be found down below (I do not own them). This is intended for those who are interested in the fundamentals of motorsport history. The details are kept short and simple, in an attempt to cause the least amount of confusion to those who are hearing about the topic for the first time. I will make a Part 2 of this video, Featuring Kamaz, and other brands.

5:43 Most people don't know "Turbo Twin" from "Twin Turbo". Especially when it comes to the DAF trucks that took part in the Dakar race. Glad someone finally noticed this. Greetings.
Indeed. Quite an interesting vehicle in motorsport history :)
@@JaPsGraph Exactly. I apologize for spelling errors. Greetings.
Best motortsportscene ever de rooy with 200 km through de dessert with the x2
Indeed. The making of true motorsport history :)
De Rooy drove 95x1
X2 crashed
awesome content man, thanks
Unimog used by the Portuguese Army a very power full reliable veicle
Cool video. Where did you find the footage of the DAF running without bodywork (e.g. 8:53)?
Thank you :) You can find a link to that video in the caption under Turbotwin 1988 but ill also paste it here for ease of access. ua-cam.com/video/JgkUo7zWC9U/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TrucksfromHolland
@@JaPsGraph thanks
Hino is a Japanese company with a long history and not a Chinese manufacturer as you stated in the video.
That is correct. My mistake, thank you for the feedback :)
The DAF TURBOTWIN X1 had 2440 horsepower and 7k ft-lbs of torque
The reasons many articles get confused about it
The turbotwin 2 had 1220 horsepower total
But the turbotwin X1 had 1220 horsepower per engine
Like you said, the information is based on the articles I can find online, the stories and data are pretty old so its very possible that things get mixed up. Thank you for your feedback and clarification, it is very appreciated.
And even more exciting news, the double cab will go with the Dakar classic this year, it is fully restored. Also a service truck for the Turbotwin 2 and Turbotwin x1 is going to be there i think
This is very cool. Thank you very much for clarifying it, I hope that other viewers see it as well. Where did you learn about this if you dont mind me asking?
that's incorrect. The X1 and X2 both had about 1220 hp total. They used the same engines.
@@mogguhjow582 The strongest production DAF engine was the 11.6 litre single-turbo/intercooler, which had 330 hp (as used in the DAF 3300).
The X1 and X2 had 3 turbos per engine in a two-stage setup. From the intake the air goes to 1 turbocharger, then the intake pipe gets split into 2, then you have 2 turbochargers that each feed 3 cylinders.
Great Video!!. Just wanna point out that the Pinzgauer was the model name, Steyr Puch was the manufacturer.
Ah yes 88 paris dakar
Where group B rally cars was suspected to be the fastest thing in the race
Then jan de rooy said no
I hope to see sisu enter some racing trucks with of course a finnish racing driver
Very good point there, the cars that came from Group B to Dakar were even faster, probably using the hill climb setups on their engine tune-ups.
Hino is not Chinese,
It is a Japanese Buses and Trucks making company from Toyota Group.
Indeed you are correct, my mistake. Thank you for the feedback :)
Hino is japanese bro!
Nice Job!
But i'd like to make a critic on your video, as a guy who loves this kind of motorsport documentary type videos, i'd think if u extend the time a little more, you can have more audience :D
Iam waiting for the next videos to come out, i've just seen all of the others in 1 go :D
Thank you very much for the feedback. After looking back I see that you are right, Himo is Japanese. My mistake. Regarding the length of the videos, there are people like you and me who would watch motorsport documentaries for hours, but sadly most viewers aren't like that, and I would not be able to keep their attention for so long, that is why I split them up into different segments, to make multiple parts of the videos. :) I should be coming out with more videos soon, sadly I am currently in recovery from an accident, and I am unable to edit my footage, if any other viewers are reading this, dont think I abandoned my content, because there's still much more to come. Once again I appreciate any and all feedback.
@@JaPsGraph Man thats so bad, i wish you the very best and a quick recovery :D
Do u have a discord or some place where you could speak directly with the viewer ? That would be very cool and you can share more ideias for new content :D
Thank you very much. Ideas are always welcome. You can find me on instagram @japsgraph I'd be glad to speak to my viewers :)
It is HINO, not himo, himo is a electric bike brand from Xiaomi
Yip Hino is part of the Toyota company
Sonacom took 1980s 1st, 3rd and fourth places, outstanding sleeper achievement that the west kept in dark considering they only participated with 3 trucks and you usually do not hear about them after that because it was just a showcase of the company capabilities and algeria always keeps good thingies for it's people rather exporting them, this company's trucks are invested in public services, transportation, sanitation...ect still in production till this day and they are hyper hyper reliable yet super easy to fix, i got in an old sonacom bus the other day (maybe from the 70s or earlier) and it ran perfectly and suspension was😮😮😮😮😮, the only downside to this brand is the ugliness which you'll like over time😂😂😂😂)
The 2 turbutwins where developed by DAF, not the Rooi. he drove them.. Athe that time, it was factory team until the crash of the X2. after that DAF withdrew from it. That is talso the reason de Tooi quit that time.. the info in the video is not quite ritght
What about the sound demonstrations?
Sadly there weren't many pure sound videos available, the only things I could find were news reports with sound, meaning they had a commentary over them. I didn't like that so I decided not to include it.
New sub
Thank you very much I hope you enjoy the free content
I know a owner of a HINO and have Soma pictures of his truck, he win also with a hina the Dakar 😊
after the crash with the daf it was the companie daf that dont want to compete in the rally anymore because it damaged the imago of the companie ofcorse jan de rooy was really upset about it. Here you have a link to a documentary about the time that daf competed in the dakar ua-cam.com/video/PSQzUeakQg8/v-deo.html
Indeed, another viewer commented on that as well. Thank you for the link and feedback :)
Great video, however, your pronunciation of Renault made a lot of French people choke on their baguette 😂
Hino trucks from japan..its under toyota..
You are right. A previous viewer already told me. My mistake and thank you for the feedback. :)
HINO is not Chinese. It's Japanese
That is correct, my mistake
Hino is Japanese.
It's Toyota's truck brand
DAF is cool
Jan de rooy wasn't the wanne how wanted to quit. DAF said theye coulden drive the truck. because no brand should be promoted by losing people's lives. That was the statement Daf gave.
Thats very interesting and reasonable. Thanks for clarifying :)
If you want t make video's, please make shure your information is correct. You are giving faulty information and forgetting important things about the turbotwin crash . This results in a story that is not even close to what actually happened.
I appreciate the feedback. Sadly all the information that I talk about is quite limited. It is gathered from various sources which evidently can not always be trusted. Those articles are also listed in the video description, check them out if you please. Would you like to tell me more about what you know? I would love to hear it. I am sure that other viewers would also appreciate it. :)
