  • International 345 V8 engine disassembly. This is from a 1974 International 100 4X4 truck that has been sitting for a number of years. The engine runs but needs some love. I will clean up, refresh, and reassemble the engine before reinstalling it in the truck.

    Awesome. I bought a 1974 ih 100. Mine is a 2wd wishbone suspension.. I'm also learning as i go. I've done a TON of work already. I'm getting ready to try my first engine swap. Looking to transplant a Chrysler 318 into my truck. Watching for inspiration. Sweet truck!

    Great disassembly video of a 345.
    When will the assembly video be posted?

    No SBC here. That dressed 345 likely weighs ~800 lbs. No wonder that engine stand was sagging.

    Great video. I look forward to its inspection, especially the crank and cam bearings etc and its reassembly. Thanks.

      thanks! i've cleaned the engine and it's all back from the machine shop now. painting and reassembling in process. it's hard to shoot video while learning how to rebuild an engine so kudos to all that manage to get it done. I'll try to get motivated to edit some more of the process. thanks for your comment.

      @@camwiebe88As a normal machinist, I'm also pretty curious what the shop had to do. What was in/out of spec, that sort of thing.

      @@PeteBrubaker the cylinders had a lip around the top so they had to be bored .30 over. .20 over might’ve done it but it was easier to find the .30 pistons and rings. Crank and camshaft were within spec so they just needed polishing. Standard size bearings on both. No other block milling required. It was straight and had no cracks. The heads were good too. No cracks and straight. The valve seats and valves were reground and the top of the valve guides were cut to accept the new umbrella seals. Springs installed and pressure matched throughout.

      @@camwiebe88 The fact that most of that was within spec is damn impressive.
      Thanks for the video of the disassembly, in case I ever have to do it. But from the sounds of it, I probably won't. :)

    Good work, Cam! Nice videography and narration too. I have subscribed and will continue to follow your progress with the truck. Better you than me, buddy! 😅

    You say you don't know what you're doing standing in front of a big snap-on roller.

      Haha. Good point. I inherited that from a family member. I’m a hobbyest at best.

    What was making the noise?

    • @camwiebe88
      @camwiebe88  10 місяців тому

      I think the noise was coming from the valve lifters as it appeared that some were almost flat and may not have been rotating as they should. Not 100% sure though as the noise was still there once the engine started again and was being broken in. It seems to have quieted down now that the regular 15w40 oil is in and it’s been running for a while.

    what's it cost for the machine shop to do that

    • @camwiebe88
      @camwiebe88  Рік тому

      I think it was around $1000 to clean and magnaflux, bore the cylinders and polish the cam and crank. They also measured the crank and cam journals to ensure they were within spec. He pressed in the new cam bearings too.
