Explore "Churchill's Bunker" in London, England - the location where Winston Churchill organized, planned, and conducted operations in World War II. Visit the Cabinet War Rooms on Alpventures Britain at War! Tour - visit our website for full details: worldwar2tours...
Alpventures® Britain at War! Tour covers major historical sights and world-class museums between Cambridge, London and the English Channel.
In London we begin with a City Tour focusing on the London Blitz of 1940. We visit the famous Imperial War Museum and Churchill's Cabinet War Rooms, with leisure time to browse the museum shops. We spend half a day aboard the HMS Belfast, a World War II Cruiser. Our excursion north of the city is to Bletchley Park - Home of the WWII Codebreakers - and the IWM aviation museum at Duxford. Although best known for its 180 historic aircraft, Duxford has one of the finest collections of aircraft, tanks, and military vehicles in the country and a wide range of other impressive exhibitions. We also spend a day touring the bomber airfields from Apple TV's hit-show about the Eighth Air Force, "Masters of the Air."
The last few days of Alpventures Britain at War! Tour take you to General Eisenhower's Supreme Headquarters for the D-Day operation at Southwick House near Portsmouth, Bovington, and the White Cliffs of Dover and Kent. We take in Dover Castle and see the newly opened command bunkers underground, and we visit the Battle of Britain Museum in Kent.
Unlike other Tours, we don't leave out the Tank Museum in Bovington; we include a stop to see one of the world's largest and finest collection of tanks from unique WWI tanks to the latest British Army battle tank. The museum has a collection of over 300 vehicles from over 26 countries.
Finally, we finish the Tour back in London, where you can spend more time before your return flight home, or continue your travels in the United Kingdom and beyond.

The Americans under Roosevelt only gave the U.K. token support and that had to be paid for under Lend Lease. The only time there was a positive move to assist us was after they had been given a 'kick up the arse' at Pearl Harbour. I am afraid I hold the 'Special Relationship' with suspicion as being one-sided. The U.S. was Isolationist in 1939-1941 and to a certain extent still is. It is only when matters can be perceived as beneficial to the U.S. that they act. The one mad-cap war that we abstained from, thankfully, was the Vietnam War, although our Brothers-in-Arms, the Australians, chose to participate.
