Mizo people are vey heartfelt and helpful. They are not like selfish as per my experienced. One day, I had to reach bus stoppage, no option to reach there until immediate riding from that place where I was. Suddenly, I saw a group of three boys smoking infront of a street hotel with an Alto car. First I was feared to interact with them. Few minute left to get my booking bus to Guwahati, immediately I approached them and they also suddenly hurried up leaving all goods at hotel for me after getting my problem. They were not about to take money but after my request to one of them to take money. They took it. The bus stoppage name was Company Bus stoppage directly from Mizoram University. Mizo people looks similar to Bodo people really.
Never forgettable.....from Assam (Jatin Basumatary)
Absolutely rt they are so helpfulness...I NVR b fgt
👍👍👍👍
Who are Bodos?
@@whyareyouusinglightmode2098 🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Mizo, i would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone else that not only Mizos, but the people of NorthEastern India are helpful people, easy going, simple and humble.
Darjeeling and Sikkim are not
@@learning2love122 why tho?
I have been to sikkim they are very friendly and polite but not sure about Darjeeling because i haven't been there
@@Anonymous4150 because they have problem with only mainland people
@@learning2love122 I think mizos have superiority complex. They should come out from their state and start exploring other state as well...
There are good and bad people everywhere..
And by the way I am from Assam northeast
@@Anonymous4150 I met few mizos in Shillong and they really nice people, but tribal people everywhere have problem with outsiders, whether Rajasthan or Assam
I was posted at Mizoram for 5 years. Traveled literally everywhere due to my work, from Sangau to Vairengte. From Chawngte to Ngopa.
The following are my personal observation.
1. there are four main groups of people: Lushais (Mizos), Lais, Chakmas and Maras. Though Lais and Lushais pretty much behave like Siblings, but the others are still in process of developing relationship. So for outsiders, calling everyone from Mizoram "Mizos " can be avoided because they might be from the other tribes. My personal observation is even though they are from different tribes and background, they are very similar in their fundamentals:
Humility and Helpfulness is common in all.
2. I almost have heart attacks seeing the houses. Most are build on the slopes of hills with stilts. As a person with no architecture/engineering background. I still find it scary till today.
3. The place is very clean. My colleagues and i always burst out laughing when we start seeing rubbish, garbage on the road immediately after crossing vairengte check gate (border of Mizoram and Assam) towards silchar. If you're an outsider, you really don't want to be embarrassed by littering.
4. THE MEN ARE LAZY!!!! Yea, If you're from Mizoram, you exactly know what i mean! They are very casual and Happy going. It's the truth, women work harder than Men.
5.
With regards to Puri/Parantha
Whole of India : Puri
Mizoram: Paratha
🤣 (*I have tried correcting many times but in Vain).
6. Most people in Mizoram are introverts and shy. So if you're an outsider, Don't immediately start speaking to them in 'English or'Hindi', Start out by couple of basic phrases " e dam em" (how are you) "Ka lom" thank you" , the moment you show that you gave efforts , they will open up and speak to you in either Hindi/English (mostly they will not be fluent, but will be good enough to get your work done".
7. Address Elder/senior Males as "ka Pu" and Elder/senior females as "Ka pi", and young ones as " Boiya" for Boys, and " Mami" for Girls.
And be careful, if you call a young girl "ka pi" she will feel embarrassed.
8. They love sports especially football, if i am not mistaken, i think its the only state in india which recognizes 'sports' as an industry. Something funny is that there is a HUGE chunk of cricket fans, but are shy to declare it (it's like coming out of the closet) 😅😆😅😆
9. If you ever get robbed, you are one of the rarest of the rare people. 😁😁😁. Always keep your business card with your contact number on your wallet, stick it to your phone, bags, laptops, etc. In case you lose it, you will get a call within next 6 hours , they will tell you where they found it, scold you for being careless and they will keep it at a nearby shop / landmark, you will have to go and pick it up. (it has happened to me 3 times so i'm sure of this , Haha! ) . Warning: Even the shopkeeper will scold you for being careless 🤣
10. SMOKERS EVERYWHERE! You will see people smoking everywhere. I am bothered by this a lot. I found out that it was passed on as culture and habit from their grandparents. As Mizoram is full of trees and vegetation, there are many insects, bugs, mosquitoes and those times, people used smoking for protection. Now since, there are Bug spray, repellents available, they should reduce their consumption. Not only for health purpose, but for economic reasons as well. Since the smokes are from Burma are much cheaper, 80% smoke Burmese products sending a lot of Indian money outside. Even the cheapest Indian Cigarette brand is considered expensive due to this. Govt needs to look into this and increase import duty!
I can go on and on...but i'll stop at 10 points. And from my experience, i can say this openly : When i got posting at Aizawl, i ran around trying to change my posting. Now i am running around trying to get back this posting. 😊
Where are u from?
😂😂 Yeah we Mizo men are lazy because of the new system. The Mizo society which was once Patriarchal became Matriarchal and this is ruining us. 😂😂. But next year in 2023, I hope that if the Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) party had won the elections, all this things will be fix. 😂😂👍. We were not like this before the Britishers came. 😛😛😂
very frank and accurate points up there... Please visit again 😄👍
p.s I too have lost my wallet four times and the only time I didnt get a call back is when I travel to sikkim lol, my bag itself got stolen at the train station haha(its funny now but not so much then😭🤣) but inside mizoram I always got a call back, I especially am thankful for that one time I put my course fee money as it was quite abit but fortunately I got a call telling me they will put it at a security post nearby ... I never even knew who found it but I still am grateful to this day
Beautiful observation, your first point is quite interesting and in a way true. Just wanted to elaborate on it. While you are right when it comes to the Chakmas not being Mizo, as for Lais and Maras, they are also technically Mizos. The Mizo people are divided into two groups, Mainstream Mizos and dialectal Mizos. Now Mainstream Mizos are what most people are familiar with, they are the group of People in Mizoram that speaks the same language and observe the same traditions, they are some of the most mixed bunch of people in the Northeast and hails from different tribal backgrounds ( Lushai, Lai, Mara, etc) majority of the Lais are part of this Mainstream Mizo community, while a significant Mara population are also part of this mainstream Mizo community. Mainstream Mizo history can be traced back to the Sailo Chieftainship. Basically, most of today's mainstream Mizo people are descendants of Sailo subjects. The Sailos made an effort to standardise the Mizo language and unite various Mizo sub-tribes into one group. So-called Lushai people or the Mizo speaking people today are actually from various tribal background, Luseis, Hmar, Ralte and Lai being the largest subgroups among Mainstream Mizos.
Now Dialectal Mizos on the other hand still speak their own language and still observe unique traditions and Identities, most of the dialectal Mizos today were never part of Sailo chiefdom and hence were not affected by Sailo policy of unification. The idea of Mizo identity among this sub-group is more akin to the idea of Naga identity in Nagaland. Many identify themselves as Mizos while still retaining their unique identity while many others do not identify themselves as Mizos. The largest dialectal Mizo group in Mizoram is the Mara community.
To an outsider, this can cause some confusion, and not all Lushais identify as Mizo either, The Lushais of Chin Hills especially o not identify as Mizo and are like the rest of dialectal Mizos much like the non Lushai speaking Mizos because they too were never a subject of the Sailos.
Mizo identity is a confusing one and is still fine-tuning itself. While it is not totally wrong to classify the Lais and the Maras as distinct from the Mizos, Many Lais and Maras are also part of the Mainstream Mizo community again, and Mainstream Mizo community is not made up of just one single tribe. So Lais and Maras like the rest of the Mizo tribes have members who are part of the mainstream Mizo community and dialectal communities just like how Hmar, Lusei, Paite tribes have both mainstream and dialectal Mizo communities. So Lais and Maras are both distinct and part of Mizo community like every other Mizo tribes. Hope this gives you some idea about the complicated nature of Mizo identity.
Chakmas are not Mizos
Jeje served the country very well, we are thankful for his contribution to blue tigers 🐅
Mizos are very good and very helpful. Infact all northeastern tribals are helpful and straight forward people
Exactly, we're a good people. But still the rest of people called me Chinki.
