It's all reality tv crap. Young Australians have no idea how great our locally produced TV & music industry was back in the 70s 80's 90s. Countdown was a must watch on Sunday night and all everyone talked about at school on Monday. Again, only all superficial wannabes on reality tv now. It's appalling.

It doesn't help that Australian right wing govts have ripped so much funding from the arts, the Australian film industry etc. TV networks have been bought out & only run with reality crap because it costs next to nothing to produce. At this rate there's nothing to showcase Australian culture in the early 21st century.
I grew up watching these shows, how I miss the innocence of them all.. Hey hey it's Saturday was the best.. I spent time with John in the 90's and he is the nicest guy ever

@@Sydneysider1310 Oh yeah, so we did, I remember. Are we getting old lol. I was just channel flicking, about or more TV stations with exactly the same shows & news on half a dozen stations . Only a few stations years ago but it was great entertainment TV and good shows mostly. I’m sick of Netflix, watching Back Roads on ABC iview, amazing Aussie country towns, mainly in the outback , a few I’ve never heard of. The community atmosphere is wonderful.

This was John's lost years, trying to shake off the Little Johnny Farnham and was lost within other bands, it wasn't until Whispering Jack in 1986, his 12 album when his career exploded and he could shake off the lost years and be a Prime individual act.
I went with a friend (both of us from Adelaide) in 1980 to the Don Lane Show and had a friend at the time working in Channel 9 Melbourne and got us through backstage. Very interesting seeing it from that viewpoint. I was disappointed in Don though. He had a man and his dogs on. Can't remember the reason behind it, whether it was an act. Whatever. But the moment the director called cut for a break, Don just ignored his guest and walked over to a cameraman and said something about taking his shots from the other angle because he looked better from the other profile. The guest didn't know what to do. His time was up with Don and he just looked bewildered. Don didn't even say "thanks for coming, you can go out that way" or something like that. I just thought Don was very two faced. He came across in the interview as really interested in what he was hearing from the guest and he seemed genuine, but then this disingenuous side showed up. I remember the other guests were a band called Hall and Oates. I'd never heard of them, but did hear they name more after the trip. I still remember that trip there and it was enlightening and made me realise people aren't always what they seem when they are on camera, and I am not talking actors.
What a lovely interview with my favorite singer John Farnham and the late great Don Lane. We just don't have shows like that anymore.
