I watched this interview again. John Farnham sounds very honest here. When he said he liked to be in charge, but understood he was in a band, and needed to record songs he didn't care for, but his band mates did. That is what being a team player is about. After 3 years with LRB he decided to go back as a solo act. This happens all the time, and eventually there were to be more personnel changes with the band. His career skyrocketed, so I guess he made the right move. I believe he took the high road here.
LOL...he was called an over singer just to get a rise. He's never over sung, listen to the live version of Reminiscing. It's so beautiful & Farnham's vocals fit so beautifully.
Reading some comments I think people misinterpreted Roy and HG (the interviewers). They are satirical comedians so were asking many questions tongue in cheek (with a hint of truth thrown in).
He is correct. Everything Farnham said was true. The fact that Farnham did NOT come out and say that "The Goeb" is...and always has been...a rotten, backstabbing and manipulative little shithead is a testament to John's character.
@devildoc225 Lovely story....but Johnston left The Doobies hanging in limbo while he drank himself into a bleeding ulcer. Glenn Shorrock left LRB still a mediocre singer at best....but a sober, healthy mediocre singer who even recommended Farnham as his replacement. NOT the same.
No that's harsh and needless. Cover versions are just that. And at what point does an original cement itself as an original anyway? Farnham has no axe to grind and nor does the rolling door membership of LRB.
Raises the hair on my arms when he let loose on "We Two." Magnificent.

JF is a consummate professional. Love him loads. LRB were a great band. let the music speak for itself.
"I like being a team player as long as I am the captain"..:)
Do you know why John Farnham "Over Sings"? Simply put, because He Can!
This is hilarious! John has a beautiful voice, and his vocals on the Cool Change video are magnificent.

John is the most talented singer I have ever heard. I thank GOD I lived in an era where I was able to have heard him.
The Other Guy wont be around ...
JF is brill, really enjoyed this interview... thanks to FTR as always
@denise11864 why not!! if he can hit ridiculous ranges and keys than i reckon, go hard
Bollocks - he never over-sings. Good, English-born bloke.

I think you meant "The women there don't know who I am, in Old Iran."
LOL! Who are those guys?

@devildoc225 You WILL NOT try to rewrite history while I'm around. You don't like it?....go somewhere else.
i bet you if he was black they wouldn't be calling it over singing they'd be comparing him to Stevie and Luther and the likes

@devildoc225 Tommy got "sick"?....you mean when Tommy became a drunk and a drug addict?....:):):):):)
Sorry dude...you never came close to the original LRB's talent and harmonies...should have been a different band entirely.
+TSIKA When John(this dude) joined in 1983, ONE person was new....John. Please know what you are talking about before opening your uneducated mouth.
+TSIKA : there's at least 3 LRB's in the '70's...which one r u talking about?....
+Ariel Cohen Its not LRB without Glenn Shorrock, sounded like a backing band for Farnham while he was with them.
hirdy6 : or without Rick Formosa, or David Briggs..or George McArdle???
