As a Catholic I am in awe of how openly Easter is celebrated. This would not be allowed so publicly here in the UK. The Catholic/Protestant divide is still very big here and Catholic processions have been banned for generations of time now. Over here, Easter is celebrated inside the walls of the church only. Which is very sad considering that in the eyes of the Catholic Church, Easter is more important than Christmas. Being so open and publicly celebrated is amazing to me and I'm really happy to see this. The community makes it happen and I commend them for doing so. We have stations of the cross on Good Friday and the church candles are extinguished and the tabernacle left open till Easter Sunday. So to all TPL family in the Philippines, Happy Easter to you all, God's Blessings to you and your family. You are honoured to be able to celebrate and display your faith so publicly - something my country does not allow sadly 🙏 ❤️
@Helen O’Hara White. So true. Our highest, most solemn, holy days. Not just Easter Sunday, but the entire Holy Week, esp. Thur/Fri/Sat = Holy Triduum. Here, in my country, there are attempts to limit access to worship in the RC tradition to Sunday. But that has never been our Tradition. Appreciate you & your words. 🙏🏽♥️Christ is Risen, Alleluia!
Honestly, not being allowed to display faith publicly is so strange and sad to me. I guess it's the culture. We Filipinos have very strong devotion, and it's still quite evident, even in government. We even have official holidays for Christian and Muslim celebrations/events.
I pray for UK to be openly in public in terms of processions and for the true church, the catholic faith to strengthen. Truly, easter is a more important and rightous event than Christmas.
Philippines, along with East Timor, are quite unique in Asia, for having Christianity as its largest religion. And it has Catholic traditions that are uniquiely Asian not seen in other parts of the world. It is what makes the Philippimes, The Philippines.

Just watching the fellow dragging the cross on his back moved me to tears. I guess because of our upbringing and our deep and profound belief of Jesus Christ. This belief makes the Filipino resilient that a better tomorrow is coming despite the hardships, the typhoons, the floods and so on.
As a knights of Columbus member holy week is my passion for serving our Lord Jesus Christ by doing vigil stand on guard to the blessed sacrament and escort the Santo intierro procession yesterday Good Friday

Thank you for covering this celebration of Holy Week in Iloilo. It's the first time I've seen how Iloilo celebrate Holy Week and it's quite interesting. In other places like Pampanga we see men flagellate themselves which is common in most parts of the Philippines. Then the actual crucifixion itself.
the casket you are pertaining to is what is called as Altar of Repose and that is something that is being visited every Maundy Thursday Night for another tradition called "Visita Iglesia" which 7 churches must be visited. This tradition is rooted in St. Philip Neri in 1553 and is also practiced in other countries such as Singapore, India (for Catholic minorities) and even in US but modified according to their own customs/ culture
When my grandparents from my mother side were still alive, we used to join the "Pabasa", it was my grand dad's panata every Holy Week and a great way to get together with the family. We switch people coz not all of us can sing from late afternoon 'til early afternoon the following day. There are neighbors, friends and family who preps the feast before the Pabasa ends, even during the pabasa itself since people need to get through the night. On Good Friday, all of us are asked to be quiet, and to bathe early 😂 But I love Easter Sunday, as we join the "Salubong", we wake up at 2am, join the crowd walking, gets anxiety when the kids (angels) try to get Mama Mary's belo coz most of the time it gets stuck or the balloon will get caught in the wires or trees, then lastly, head to the market to buy traditional breakfast including kakanin. I appreciated it as a child and even now as an adult since it was a great way for my family to get together ❤
Hi Binca and Mike and we do have lot of ways celebrating Easter in the Philippines. A few are the Bisita Iglesia or Station of the Cross, Pabasa, Pasko ng Pagkabuhay or the Easter Sunday and the Caridad or Pakaridad in which some family gives free meal to those who participated in the whole weeks event. It is a way of giving thanks and invites people to have a free meal at their home and this is made during Easter Sunday and that is why we have to say the greetings "Happy Easter" for Jesus Christ has Risen! And do you know what is the best meal being served at this occasion ..... it is 'KARE-KARE!" after days of fasting and without eating meat, what a feast! 🙂
Thank you for this educational video. The protestant churches n Iloilo which includes the Convention Baptists (Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches) also observe the Holy Week especially Maundy Thursday in which they usually have the commemoration of the Last Supper and Good Friday where they meditate on the Seven Last Sayings of Jesus Christ. A big event shared ecumenically with other protestant church denominations is the Easter or Resurrection Sunday Sunrise Service. Early today, Sunday, April 9, it will be held at the Soccer Field of Central Philippine University in Jaro, Iloilo City. My family will be attending. Blessings and Happy Easter / Resurrection Sunday. The Lord is Risen!
Tens of thousands Evangelicals/Protestants will be confirmed into the Catholic church this Easter here in the USA .there is even a contigent of Harvard University undergrads, graduates ,faculty members who will become Catholic too.Lately, there have been influx of former staunch anti Catholic Protestants ,including Bible Scholars,Historians,Theologians,Pastors ,to name a few who have became Catholic too.
14 April 1521 Ferdinand Magellan introduced christianity in the Philippines. He gave 3 gifts to Rajah Humabon 2 of them Sto. Niño and Blessed Virgin Mary.
Try to visit Minglanilla Cebu City every Easter, we have a festival called "Kabanhawan" means "The Resurrection". They re-in-act the Resurrection of Jesus , the live music and the effects makes it different. You really must try🥰

It’s a worldwide Catholic tradition to cover all crosses and holy statues in churches after Palm Sunday of the Passion of Christ. The place where I grew up in Bicol has very solemn and ornate processions during holy week.
Christianity is Spain's best legacy for the Philippines. I will never ever trade my faith for any other faith especially those who claim they are the religion of pieces.

Religious statues and images are covered on Passion Sunday, not Palm Sunday. The purpose is to help the faithful focus mainly on Christ and meditate on His passion. They will be unveiled on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil Mass. The Blessed Sacrament is housed in a tabernacle, not a "casket", on the Altar of Repose. Other than that, nice video and thank you for presenting my country, faith, and culture!
The appeal of the Philippines is because the people have a strong faith in God and as we all know the Holy Bible says God is Love and this is precisely the reason why Filipinos are loving people and kind. I just hope that the most welcome westerners to our country is not gonna make the Philippines another godless western world.
See the difference with other countries? They don't force you to join them but they still welcome anyone who wants to join either you're a Catholic or not everyone is welcome to join
The Philippines is the only Christian nation in the Orient, Old traditions are still being observed by Christians especially the Catholics. Like the "Simbang gabi" or the 9 days in the early dawn mass before Christmas, and observation of the Holy week. It's a very old tradition passed to us by the Spaniards, When I was a very young boy, my grandmother told me to be very careful and quite because God is "Dead". If I get hurt, God will not heal it.
That would be very foolish business model, a single view in a western country is worth 11 times or more than a Philippines view on UA-cam. You are better off if you care about money only is to attract USA views.
people here in canada are too busy to care about this. the most you get is a 1 day off during good friday. street won't be closed off like you see here in the video.
I find it strange that you have Europeans occupying their land and instead of rejecting their influence the Philippines wholeheartedly embraced their religion. You find the same thing in Mexico when the Spanish destroyed Mayan temples to build their own Christian churches from those same stones. Yet Mexico is also mostly Catholic. Does someone have an explanation for this?
