  • While traveling between Harrisburg and Altoona on May 22, 2019, we passed through Lewistown, PA, where the Juniata Valley Railroad interchanges with the Norfolk Southern. As luck would have it, we happened upon their headquarters just as a train was leaving to switch the local industrial park. So we decided to follow the train for a while.
The JV is a short line railroad in central Pennsylvania, part of the North Shore Railroad family. This was a good opportunity to see their switching operations up close and personal. They were using a classic SW9 locomotive (although it's been upgraded internally) that originally saw service on the New York Central (NYC). We saw them switch Greenbrier Rail Services and Trinity Plastics before we had to be on our way.
Something a little different for the channel, but I've had this footage for a long time and wanted to share it with people.
