A UE Dev Here. I love Heteregenous Volumes introduced in UE5.3. They gave amazing quality but they also have big performance constraint. A single VDB of fairly average size can easily take around 4ms of rendering. It still has a long way to go not to mention the VDB file for a single effect can take a few gigs of space. I wouldn't be suprprised if this feature ends up being removed or it is only available on PC at ultra effects quality. But at best it is going to be seen very sparingly.
Appreciate your insight 🫡
And keep up the good work on
whatever it is you’re working on
Good luck with your development
What about niagara effects or niagara fluids. Are they any better?
Isn't this still useful for movie productions? Or would they just do this in something like houdini anyway?
@@fouadchakerbzr7601 Niagara Fluids are Unreal' native implementation for making fluid sims which usually require DCCs like houdini or Embergen. Niagara Fluids is an amazing edition and it is far more flexible and can do a lot more in terms of building interaction like collisions and such but they are also very expensive. Epic doesn't recommend using Niagara 3D fluids for games. Niagara fluids if cached are baked down to SVT which is what Heteregenous volumes as well. But if is not baked you have to pay for GPU simulation, Memory footprint for Niagara Data Interface required to simulate fluids and the ectual rendering of volumetrics.

Rich’s face every time Alex butchers Marvel details is just glorious.
Rich generally seems so happy and content in this clip. 😂
ages of ultronos killed me 🤣🤣
Unreal 6 will be out by the time we get decent Unreal 5 games.
Comic nerd here: Cap and Black Panther don't age because they have regenerative powers in the serums that provide their powers. Much like Wolverine, this greatly slows the aging process. So, there's your canonical reason.
This Black Panther is the grandfather of T'Challa, the Black Panther we are most familiar with. His name is Azzuri the Wise.
Days Gone was a pretty good looking UE4 game!
meh
First playthrough now and loving it
Definitely, especially the characters look really good
Remedy actuallt did an amazing job with volumetric smoke with the flare gun.
Looks cool and all but it is always a bit blurry, like an oil paint, wish it was sharper.
Damn Rich, that’s one hell of a cup.
It might even be deeper than your knowledge of Marvel lore. ;)
Could you talk a bit more about engines used for new AC games (like Red), Avatar, RE engine and CP one? I would like to learn how they stack against each other and UE/Unity.
You’re going on a “date” to see Captain America? Blimey, Alex, you’re such a geek! You’ll never pull it off.
I can already expect DF will be covering this game when it releases in that there'll tonnes of stuttering.
As far as demo videos go , this is very pretty .
I'm seriously impressed by this
Arkham Batman games pioneered and peaked the superhero experience. The Spider-Man games channeled that again and perfected the formula.
You must be crazy, spiderman is a mediocre copy cat cheap batman game
@@acevedoaandres "Mediocre copy" yeah, whatever, fuck off
Arkham Knight already perfected it in 2015
Arkham Batman games are so overrated. The visual style is muddy and generic, and the combat is unengaging and button mashy. Overrated as hell.
@@BigBoss7777777u re the 1st person I see not liking Arkham lol
Must be one of those guys that just mash x to attack,u re not supposed to do that. When mashing x u can’t enter free flow combat.
Btw, was there even a peak UE4 game, which was dynamic in its gameplay?
Damn, that looks noticeably better than UC4 and other Sony first party games regarding cinematics. Now I'm very curious about how close gameplay can get to that quality.
UC4 2015. This one 2024. Obviously it will look better. I would say Horizon Forbidden West is almost close but we need to see the gameplay from this game.
Partly because this most likely wont be open world game and partly because this is still new technology and it will take time to perfect new technology.
To be honest I’m kind of burnt out on superheroes lately, but this looks enticing. I like the setting, and if the actual game looks half as good as this trailer that would be quite nice.
That graphic quality is possible in-game. But it requires super GPU to run.
I've seen what UE5 can do, so I believe it as so
Similar here but I’m more burnt out on forgettable blockbusters, superheroes or not. I’m just as annoyed with Jurassic World as I am with Doctor Strange 2.
@@bjarkisteinnpetursson9736 Yeah this exactly. I'm not really burnt out on heroes or anything like that, I'm burnt out on souless garbage from untalented individuals. This looks pretty great so far so I'm on board.
@@bjarkisteinnpetursson9736this. It's not super heroes per say it's just generic Hollywood stuff. It's just that a lot of it has been superhero themed so people confuse them.
I would love an infamous or prototype type game, I feel like we don't see any of those anymore.

Do you mean the scar? I was wondering the same thing.
@Z3t487 Yes, the scar !!.
@@lndintwlooks like a scar that’s typical of a fencing cut.
@Inverse_Midas Mmm, okay, and yikes 😬 It must have been a deep cut. I didn't know that could happen.
@@lndintw on Wikipedia, if you look up “dueling scars” which is the same thing. It shows a black and white imagine of someone with a similar cut/scar in their marriage photo. Obviously I have no clue how he got it, but I just thought it looks like a fencing scar. He could have had an operation, but yeah who know?!
Im 100% sure when the game releases there will be a comparison video regarding the downgrade in graphics from 2024 trailer to 2026 release
There won’t be. It’s a game funded by one of the biggest entertainment companies in history. They have the technology and money to make this game look exactly how it’s presented
@@balloonb0y677 all the money in the world doesn't matter. It's specs of this gen and what will realistically work on a ps5 series x.
@@rafaelguerra9608 won’t or will work?
@@balloonb0y677 the game looked far batter than alan wake 2 which already runs on low settings on a console. Probably pc will be a lot closer to he trailer but still not as good
@@rafaelguerra9608 Alan wake 2 actually ram at high settings. But again Alan wake 2 is an indie game and doesn’t fully take advantage of UE5 and consoles. Just look at hellblade 2, it looks a ton better than Alan wake 2
The problem with superhero games these days is they keep trying to monetize them. They spend more resources on figuring out how to make us spend more money than making a genuinely great game. So we get a mediocre game that wants us to buy 10 outfits for a character. They need to get back to basics. Spider-Man is consistent because they’re focused on making a great game - not focused on making a money pit.
Add Guardians Of The Galaxy to that list of Games well made 😁
If UE 5.4 does improve performance and FSR 3.1 improves the upscaled image, the Unreal Engine future could be bright for PS5 and Series X owners.
Maybe I'm the only one seeing this but as much as awesome the fidelity and facial animations looks, I still find that the mouth movement still looks kind of weird still, I guess we still need to adjust the mouth movement to make it look natural, but hey, at least it'll be less work.
Did you watch the presentation where you see Cap and Azzuri face off? The facial animation on Azzuri looks as close to a pre-rendered CGI movie than anything I've ever seen before. I agree that Cap looks a little stiff but I think that's on purpose since he has a chin strap holding his jaw in place.
Actually, the only game that comes remotely close is the facial animation from Horizon Forbidden West, which is next level.
@@incredibilistic That's the scene where I noticed the weirdness. Both of their mouth movement just doesn't look right, I can tell it's automated but it's better than the automated lip-sync in Forbidden West (aside from the cutscenes) which ruined the immersion for me and I prefer TLOU2 quality of facial animation (in every scenario) and we are near. Other stuff looks perfect and it's only the mouth movement that I notice the jankiness.
Bad for u but good for us average people. I can't see it any weird with the mouth movement or anything, looks surprisingly good. This game visual will surprise average gamers
@@MDXZFR It's not surprising to me, I'm just amazed that we are able to reach this height of amazing fidelity. Now I want to see UE5 moving on towards animation, the fidelity is good enough, dare I say, but animation is what makes them come to life, I want more animation improvements in UE5.5. :)
@@CasualG-mer Thats' for sure. Meta Human is kinda "new" yet impressive at its 1st debut with UE5 (eg Hellblade 2). It will mature over times and I believe it's not that far away to be as realistic as movie CGI at least
A good looking cinematic trailer, kinda reminds me of seeing The Order 1886 trailer for the first time.
Isnt this pre rendered cutsecene. Whats the excitement about?
Digital foundry, could you please elaborate
Well pre-rendering is basically like this:
You set the scene up in engine, get everything just perfectly right, decide the output resolution, then render it out. This can take hours to fully render. Then you have real time rendering. Real time rendering is done mostly the same, but is on demand, and has to be optimized to actually run at a desirable FPS.
I haven't watched a full 4k version of this trailer to look and see if it has any tale tale signs of real time rendering, but the part where they show Nanite meshes is almost definitely real time.
@@Fusion05 this level of detail and fluidity is not possible at this time. I don't think even a PS6 could render such high poly models and dynamics.
What's the point of this video?
@@mindrover777 Did you play Uncharted 4?
@@Igoreshkin no. Why you ask?
@@mindrover777no this is real time rendering. It was the whole point of showing it off at that big unreal engine convention
The Callisto Protocol was UE 4 and blows the Infiltrator cinematic with ease.
Even before that, Arkham Knight was on UE3 and could pass for a UE5 title
@@drinkwwwaterrrit definitely can’t , I just played Arkham knight on PC ultra and it’s not even close to UE5. UE4 for sure but it doesn’t look “THAT” good to compare to a new version of UE5.
@@chrisbrown113096 Yeah, Been playing through on Ultra also; reflections, lighting and the mesh detail show the games age quite a bit. I feel like just a straight port to UE5 with Lumen would do wonders for the game tbh.
@@chrisbrown113096 it's a great looking game but people are really going a bit ott, especially when comparing it to SS.
The Callisto Protocol had super realistic faces. Still unmatched, except perhaps by Alan Wake 2.

I hope they utilize Unreal Engine 5 for Marvel Spiderman 3 n this upcoming Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra plus Marvel's Blade
Any hennig is a beast in the video game space
Too bad soo much work and technical talent is wasted on a goofy Uncharted-like story.
At this point I am starting to think they are actually making games for the ps6 and next Xbox not the ps5 and series , they release the beta incomplete version in this generation and then give us the complete package in the next generation under the names of remasters and next Gen enhancement
Yeah at this point they’re future proofing. It’ll run in current consoles but I’ll be shocked if it looks as good as the trailer.
@@briengakaplan-b1550you do understand the technology behind this game and technology inside the consoles right? What if I told you that games are almost at the point to never be limited by GPUs anymore. This game probably isn’t ven harder to run than fortnite lmao

Graphics look fine, but what about gameplay?
That is gameplay.
We are getting close to CGI level graphics in game. I just hope it's not a short game like The Order: 1886 was...
It doesn’t matter if it’s 30fps…. We’ll all wait to play it at 90-120fps on PS6 or next gen series X.
The game is doomed before release…
@@techsamurai11 nah it’s fine. Games that push graphical quality will always be 30fps on console
@@christianr.5868 Graphical quality is very high - it's not like the 4090 looks superbly better than the PS5 - you literally have to look at them closely to see the differences. This is not like PS2 vs Dreamcast. After all, PC games are an afterthought. The games are made for consoles.
@@techsamurai11 its because games are made for consoles that they perform better on pc. Consoles are like the minimum spec requirement. It’s like how when the cross gen period was happening, everything was 60fps on the new consoles. Cause the games were designed for weaker hardware
@@christianr.5868technically PCs are the minimum spec requirement.
The release of rtx 2000s and rx6000s cards were the beginning of next gen technology, then we got consoles that beat them by a good amount. So yes PCs are the minimum requirement now although it doesn’t matter

I would love to think this game is gonna be awesome, but we haven’t had a good non-Spider-Man superhero movie in like a decade.
Eh No Spider hasn’t been the only one . Batman had the trilogy way before Spider Man. And Batman and Spider Man are proof that high quality Superhero games sale big numbers.
I think they mean more recently. The last Arkham game came out nearly a decade ago.
@@bjarkisteinnpetursson9736yes? And there just haven't been any other singleplayer superhero games. So saying they are not successful is kind of weird seing that every single one has been successful. The only ones having issues are the live service oriented ones.

Batman is ancient, he's talking less than 10 years ago
John i couldn't agree anymore i roll my eyes im bored of super heroes, can i ask if anyone else sees UE5 as a great engine so far? I mean it seems to require beastly specs and nothing to me looks league's ahead of UE4 really so far imo.
Those cutscenes require minimal to no touch ups by animators. It's not just what UE5 can achieve, but it's how much less effort is required to achieve it.
@@gavinderulo12makes sense
You haven’t see ue5 truly then. It’s nearly almost indistinguishable from real life
@@redeem5858 you could already achieve photo realism in unreal engine 4. Which is why it got so popular for Hollywood productions in the first place.
man what r u talking abt,UE5 is kinda a whole new engine comparing to UE4 and waaay better
And it will run 30FPS unlocked on PS5 and XBox Series X. 😅
Yeah, which will tank the game since PCs can’t financially support this title. If it’s not playable on the ps5 and xsx, it’ll be on the next-gen list like Starfield remake. Dragon’s dogma 2 (if it’s even worth playing by then). It goes straight to the 30fps disaster pile.
@@techsamurai11 what's with sudden wraith against 30 fps by the console peasants , as long as you are on console 30 fps is the norm 60 is a plus, if you want 60 fps as the baseline prepare to sacrifice a whole generation, meaning you'll get 8th gen graphics and gameplay in the 9th gen and stay one generation behind. you ppl are spoiled expecting 500$ console to perform the same as 1000$ pc.
@@ramymimouni6639 Well, the PS5 and XSX were more expensive that a $1,000 when they were released. The PS5 Pro will cost $500 and be at least $1,000 to build.
But to your point about FPS, the visual difference of a well optimized and designed game at 30fps and 60fps is almost imperceptible to the eye so 60fps is always the way to go.
The PC market is usually an afterthought for most games. They offer a few more things but not many which is why a 4090 doesn't look night and day next to Quality mode except maybe in Path traced games.
My 4070 is scared
That's just like Physx smoke! It's not like we haven't seen it before
Ea did volumetric smoke in need for speed prostreet. Im surprized sony never did it wit grandturismo.
EA and Ubisoft do not get enough appreciation on the cool stuff they have done because it's trendy to hate them due to all the sh*t around them. I just finished playing AC syndicate on a high end PC and I was blown away, it looked really nice and the animations were next level compared to what we get now.
@@glowinTHX Yes I agree. Theres cool tec in some of the those games but the hate cover it. It stinks for developers who really care but get over shadowed by this stuff. Another thing lets hope the consoles can really even do this effect anyway. But then the effect im talking about where on the X360. So in theory x and ps5 could embace it more.
Does anyone else get really annoyed at the divide between cinematic graphics and then the actual game. I think it’s misleading to have cutscenes that look better than the game. Render it all at the same quality or don’t do it at all
Ps5 xbox series x just arent ready for ue5 yet
Doesn’t the Matrix demo and Robocop run in UE5?
@@briengakaplan-b1550well the Matrix demo is not a game by any means. It doesn't have random AI events, features very little variation in cars, and is made to be show off specific engine features. If it were a fully fledged game the performance would certainly drop if they kept everything in terms of graphics the same. Robocop is an outlier imo. Almost 90% of the UE5 games have performed awfully.
@@briengakaplan-b1550was it in 24fps?
Can I just say that so far I can’t think of a single title that has come in the last 3 years that actually seems to utilise UE5’s full
potential?
That’s cause UE5 hasn’t realized UE5’s potential. All the facts they showed off initially were incredibly demanding in the engine. They’ve been putting out updates to address that but it wasn’t worth using those features for the performance cost that came with them. Hopefully that stuff will be changing with the newest update and as more devs add their own tech to the engine and learn how to use it better.
People are only just starting to use UE5 now
My faith in marvel games is pretty low right now.
The Matrix Awakening Demo looks better.
And it's open world.
And had like 0 optimization.

Yup, lets learn nothing at all... keep pushing for graphics, sub 1080p, 30 fps, complain that it cost to much, release your game, sell 10 million, still didnt make your money back, blame Gamers, fire Devs, and then watch a small indie make some game with okay graphics break records.

Cinema movies play at 24fps
Do the kids even like Marvel anymore?
Marvel is more than just “MCU” movies. All the fans are still there , they just aren’t showing up to the movies.
All marvel fans still interact with marvel, just not the movie side of it.
Sorta, I go and see the movies when they are reviewed well, unfortunately over half of them are slop so that's why many of them keep failing but some are still box office hits
Spiderman and Batman Arkham series were huge hits. The only superhero game that really flopped a bit was The Avengers and the Suicide Squad which I said would be a flop after the first trailer. This stupid narrative keeps popping up about AAA games being unsustainable which is complete nonsense, Sony and Nintendo are not having problems but then their model is direct sales, can’t believe Digital Foundry of all people are going with this narrative because the only body this serves is Xbox, because of Gamepass AAA games are unsustainable, no one else is struggling just them for obvious reasons

Great. Another game that runs at 20fps on ps5 xbox series x
I'd bet on something like Immortals of Aveum, using all bells and whistles allowed by UE5 and decent FPS, but with a super low render resolution

I would be so bummed if this turned out to be an open world game. I’m really only interested in linear games. The open world is, imo, a distraction. Even the great ones.
It really depends. Imo well done exploration is the best thing a game can do. It's what elevates it over traditional media. And it can also really help the world building and making game worlds feel plausible and alive. But that is if it's done well, which is quite difficult.
That said, probably all of my top 5 games are open world games. Though I can very much enjoy a linear experience such as the last of us.

But usually God of war 2018 is in there (not fully open world but semi open world with lots of optional exploration). Cyberpunk is also in there (I only played it after 2.0 and with the expansion). The rest get kinda tough. Outer worlds has some really unique exploration and is technically open world.
There are also some linear games that have good optional exploration. The last of us part 2 for example.

UE5 - so the game is pretty much dead as it can’t target its main market beyond 30fps. My next best seller is titled
How to destroy your game by choosing UE5
The main market doesn't care that much about 30 fps. Also, how many UE5 games are limited to 30 fps only? Fortnite, Robocop, Immortals, Jusant all have performance modes, no?
@@mr_StevenS I don't know if that's true but it will change - once you play 60fps and 30fps, you are not going back to 30fps.
The difference in responsiveness is almost as big as the visuals between the Series X and Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
Some of the performance modes for the games you listed are not capable of 60fps or visually appealing modes. Even in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons which is gorgeous on UE5 compared to the X360 original (which is also stylistically beautiful), it's unable to sustain 60fps in many areas.
It's a shame but the technology promise of UE5 and the consoles just didn't match this gen which pushes UE5 to the next generation.
At the same time, though, can other engines put the resources of the console to better use?
I expected UE5 to lead to rendering savings as it does pixel rendering but apparently the savings never materialized. I understand that it makes development easier but there's a very limited budget of hardware resources that UE5 struggles to shine with.
@@techsamurai11 So you don't know anything about the audience of the "main market", you don't believe people can go back to 30 after 60 (not true, obviously), and you are moving the goalpost from "can't target beyond 30" to "not capable of 60 in many areas" (VRR and 40 fps modes exist for a reason). Even if I agree with some of your points, your initial claims that "UE5 games are DOA because 30 fps" are wrong on every level, plain and simple.
@@mr_StevenS Well, I think we disagree - you believe that 30fps is the main target for the "main market", I believe that it's 60fps.
UE5 is not comfortable with 60fps - major compromises must be made. At present that's a fact, not an opinion. Not if UE finds an optimization that improves performance by 20-30% or FSR 3.1 helps clean up the image, then it may become a viable 60fps option.
If Spiderman 2 was made with UE5, it would have ended up looking terrible in an effort to maintain a stable 60fps.
@@techsamurai11 I'm not saying that 30 fps is "the main target for the main market", I am saying that not achieving 60 fps doesn't kill a game. Again, your initial claims are - "UE5 can't target beyond 30 fps" - wrong, and you move the goalpost to "not comfortable with 60 fps" and "the game is dead because 30 fps" - wrong, because even if most people prefer 60, they are also totally fine with 30. Not all of them, but most. That's it.
30 FPS of D.E.I garbage. It’s not even annoying anymore, just tiresome.
And you could tell based on this trailer?
This user is upset because the game has black people in it.
Don't let their rhetoric fool you into thinking otherwise.
I think People forget this is the marvel universe.. yes its obviously based on our world.. but it isnt our world. So there isnt anything to say poc of colour couldnt be fighting in ww2, also it would be weird if a game featuring black panther didnt have black folk in it 🤷♂️
@@Chilledoutredhead But that's exactly why he thinks it's a problem. PoC did exist and participate in WW2...and even within the MCU, Black Panther would've existed outside of the current day, but any mention of that is seen as 'pandering', let alone a pivotal character in the storyline.
@@charlie7mason Who mentioned colour? The problem lies with Skydance New Media, D.E.I money and how it's strangling creativity inside the gaming industry. Stop seeing enemies everywhere.
