Poor Gevherhan Sultana. First her brother had her husband executed, then her younger sister stole her beloved. She was just a victim of her siblings' selfishness. What place did women, even those who were royalty have in that world?
YES! Ibrahim and Silahtar said it loud and clear! Atike and her pride lead her to live a miserable and lonely life. Ibrahim knowing his twin sister's true nature, and Silahtar knowing that too & calling his arranged marriage to Atike a "punishment" silenced Atike. She's lost.
The transition when Murad stepped aside to let Silahtar carrying the coffin of Gevherhan is such a heartbreaking scenes. Gevherhan's death make all of them realized that everything have gone too much which they not even aware of it. They sacrificed someone else's happiness to made another one happier.. The series is amazing, but one of the things it seems that never gets mentioned is the COSTUME department of this series should be winning awards left, right and down the middle. Actors, great. Story, amazing. (Thank all that is holy for subtitles, haven't watched an English show for a few years and now Magnificent century has me in a chokehold even if it DOES make working on something that I have to keep looking down for tough.) But the costumes. I'm a seamstress and I desperately want to send the person who designed all this flowers. And possibly beg to peek into the wardrobes for the show. Tiny details, millions of them, each little stitch and fold just amazing. And that's long before we get to the brilliant minds who work on the jewelry. Just a couple hours, I just want to beg for a few hours in the wardrobe department. I'll make everyone lunch. Heck, for a chance at a few extra days I'll clean their houses and walk their dogs. Just wonderful. Does anyone know if they are going to release an art book by ANY chance of the series? Or who I can petition they make one? Possibly patterns....
I agree with you-the costumes are gorgeous, but they have nothing to do with the real costumes that were worn at that time. We toured Topkapi Palace and saw the real costumes with our own eyes-they are big shapeless caftans, very oversided, both for women and men there was nothing form fiting-there were layers upon layers of large sack like clothes, and women were also completely covered from head to toe, and they could not be out with their faces and heads uncovered, left alone chests
@@marihillestad5486 Not only that but to say their marriage is a punishment. Great way to drive the point home that she was the cause of her sister's death.
I loved the heartful moment between Murad and Silahtar. Murad is to blame for what happened, just as Atike, yet Silahtar, who has all the reasons in the world to be angry at Murad, chose to comfort him and share his grief with him rather than spite. They friendship is heartwarming in this terrible moment, and the tenderness in their hug felt real. They are two men grieving a woman they both loved, in different ways, and who are each other's only source of comfort in this moment.
That's how I feel. I can't imagine how Silahtar felt having the man who caused the death of his beloved offering him solace. I wouldn't want Murad to touch me.

Sultana Atike wasn't a totally selfish person. She took care of Murad's daughter and she saved Ibrahim from getting executed. She just made that one mistake of loving Silhatar, which caused her sister's suicide. But she didn't deserve to be unloved by her husband for so many years and then ultimately losing him also.
Thank god I found someone who has the same point of view as me. I personally don't see atike as a selfish person. Atike had trusted geverhan by telling her she loves silahtar and in return geverhan betrayed her. I cannot imagine the betrayal I would have felt if I saw my sister secretly meeting with the man I love. She even tried to kill herself afterwards but when she realized how unapologetic geverhan was she decided to act and think for herself. What she did made absolute sense after what geverhan did to her. Also it was not atike's fault geverhan had a sad life beforehand, so, I don't understand why people keep using that as an excuse to paint atike as a villain who took away all happiness from geverhan.
@anushahrizwan5604 because Atiki was not the one. He was already involved with her sister. She ran and told Murad that they were making fun of her and she tried to kill herself. So yes she's deserved to have a miserable marriage.

@anushahrizwan5604 I guess we watched a different show. No she didn't like him but they grew close. Then fell in love before she knew Atiki was chasing after him. Silahtar kept telling Atiki no.
