This was a cool video. I knew nothing about sailboats and I learned some really good information. Thanks for explaining the different parts of the boat and how they compare to tiny houses. And the stove is trippy!

Hahah, the other big surprise for me is the swinging stove; of course it is necessary, but in all my years I never thought of that or wondered about cooking on the rough open water. So interesting. My only lingering wish is that you would "take us along" on a trip on the open water sometime, and film the actual sailing of the boat and the daily life aboard while you are under way! That would be wonderful...full of wonder! ETA that so often music in a video is a distraction for me, but your music was well chosen and perfectly tucked into spots where it did not at all interfere, but only enhanced. :)

Like driving, sudden accidents can and do happen. We do our best to have practiced things like man-overboard drills, fire drills and what happens if....drills! But overall, with practice, sailing is pretty safe and fun most days. With modern weather forecasting, we can now avoid most of the really bad storms. Like having two masts, We also try to have backups for everything that might go wrong!

I will admit it, I've been intrigued by boats for some time now. a year or so ago I learned about the Great Loop and I've been pondering on how to go about tackling that adventure. Or maybe just tackling the inland waterways part of it since I think I could build something like a flat boat pretty easily and not have to worry about the corrosive nature of salt water The only problem, my experience with operating boats consists of earning canoeing merit badge in the boy scouts.

As a very handy fellow the idea of an offgrid solar/wind powered electric boat is very tantalizing. although, if it's wind powered I guess I could still call it a sailboat :P
About the same for a newer tiny house - Prices are all over the place - New sailboats in the 35-40 foot range cost $100-$200k plus. Used ones run $30-$120,000 - ours, a 1984 39 footer in great shape cost $90k 15 years ago but is now worth about $65k - www.yachtworld.com is the best place to look at them all!
Jeffrey Clement again thanks for sharing your opinion. We'll agree to disagree. Like we said we made it more in-depth intentionally, and yes sometimes an aspect was introduced than later explained in more detail.

Freedom boats are American made also. With the carbon fiber mast you don't have rigging which needs to be replaced at a costly expense.

It's a 39 foot Freedom Pilothouse Schooner. Freedom built a number of stayless mast boats from 20-45 feet.

Good point! We tend to forget to ask-- maybe we're overly polite. We've seen online for sale listing between $45-70,000.
