I loro duetti tra i più immortali della lirica di ieri , di oggi , di domani. Ineguagliabili, forse. Ma no: UNICI!

I remember hearing del Monaco's recordings when I was young and hating them. To me he sounded loud and flat. Many decades later I see him on UA-cam videos, and he's electrifying. What an ovation for his aria here! They have to sing through the continuing applause for some time before it ceases. Something snaps when you're listening to him and you feel the emotion that he's communicating.

Bizarre! Notwithstanding his AMAZING instrument, really phenomenal, I always found and still find his way of singing really unbearable. He always sang to please himself, most of the time shouting like an obsessed person, adjusting tempi here and there to shine and to accomodate his voice. His acting is always over the top or totally detached, according to when he sings or just listens. Sorry, my 2 cents.
@@stefanodepeppo huge dramatic voice over the top for sure,but shouting...no i disagree,he was and still is the greatest dramatic tenor ever,he didnt need to shout unlike many of todays tenors,alvarez being a perfect example,he shouts because he cant sing anymore,del monaco by comparidon just had a huge voice
@@stefanodepeppo by the right of speech and to different opinion(s) there was and there will be human beings saying „non mi piace“. I defend that right strongly!
However stating that MDM and his „Cantare“ has anything to do with „shouting“ is far from professional knowledge of „Cantare“. Shouting is close to screaming, some comments continuously also keep claiming. An uncontrolled outburst of emotions. Nothing could be more wrong with MDM. Equipped with a voice like he had, he sang in his own vocal league. Any successor trying to cope him would end voiceless. There never was any so far. He nailed you into your seat and you wouldn’t even want to escape.
MDM here showed the utmost expression of emotion, known to millions of people when love hurts too much and ends in tragedy. By that time huge voices were demanded and MDM delivered. Russia behind the iron curtain was isolated. Russians listened in awe to this one of a kind voice. MDM was „King“ of Moskau by that time and Russians adored him. He never sang for himself but to please his worldwide audience. His colleagues on stage gave him a big applause after this performance. And people around the world still do. If people in our times regard his interpretations „over the top“ etc. they better consider the historic times when these recordings were made.
For a Tenor like MDM I would still queue or take big detours. Not for the mediocrity that reigns nowadays. RDS

…with this B natural he was able to stop a clock! Only very few before him, certainly no tenor after him I can think of. Together with a extraordinary stage presence MDM made audiences enthusiastic. Russians prefer big voices and he delivered! He proved those uninformed or even ignorant who continuously pretend MDM was unable mezza voice or Piani. A big voice remains big over the entire dynamic range, MDM was no exception from that rule. However in other dimensions.
