Very nice tutorial. I'm getting the hang of using Moonscraper, mostly correcting some charts that I think needs correcting. Personally, knowing how to play the guitar, looking at tabs, covers, live shows - any or all of those would greatly help in charting.
The song I charted looked perfect in Moonscraper but when I imported it to Clone Hero the notes were a 16th note off of of the bar lines. Any reason this would be happening?
Would be great to have an AI detect the beats and highest/lowest notes and create these charts for us. It just needs some example data. Just think of the unlimited supplies for Clone Hero. It could live forever :O
People do this in Beat Saber but they're always trash and are annoying to sift through to find good charts. Also songs and instruments can sound so different, even within a single genre, that you'd need very specific data to train the model or a lot of manual work to get decent results. Even with all that, I don't think it could match the quality that human charting has.

Great tutorial, i charted my first song with it! It needs alot of tweaking, but im happy with it so far. Have you considered an advanced tutorial on charting for stuff like math rock songs that constantly change time signature and tempo?
Is there a way to chart notes by live-playing them onto the highway? I'm wondering if I could play all single green notes to the beat, then move them into place afterwards
No, as much as this sounds like a good idea, it’s impractical when it comes to clean charting. No shortcuts that I know of to this process other than just multiple copy paste groups of measures.
I was hoping there would be shortcuts to place notes quicker.. I hate having to pause each time I want to place a note.. for drums I should be able to play the snare drum on my keyboard as it plays and it snap into place. :(
MIDI imports are an option in some cases, but I’m unfamiliar with the transition process between them. I’d look into ways that the transitions were made on older charts, and possibly look for a different software. There are very few shortcuts in this outside of copy paste. Just comes with the territory.
@danieltolbert4114 ive made it pretty far on my first song using just your tutorial. I ran out of time today, and im at 60% done. I'm pretty excited how it's coming out so far. Thanks
What does Song resolution / Target resolution do? Does it effect the song quality / bitrate? Right now I have song resolution on 1411 and target resolution on 320. And should I set the framerate to my monitor refresh rate (60) or leave it a 120?
Song resolution has nothing to do with song quality, bitrate or refresh rate. What song resolution is, is how many notes you can put in a single beat. For example, a song with a song resolution of 480 can have 480 notes inside of a beat. Also, it is very important that your song resolution is always 480. Don't question why 480 specifically, all songs should have a resolution of 480. This is because of compatibility. If you import your charts into other games, the chart will behave differently. 480 resolution is the universal resolution between all 5 fret rhythm games.
I went from knowing literally nothing about charting to finishing my first one all because of this video. the only question I have left is how would I add a custom background image while the song was playing?
I think if there's just a image/video in the songs folder it should be the background for the song, as long as you have the song backgrounds enabled anyway

For my sustains, how do implement the whammy bar feature? On other songs i have played, the whammy feature changes the tone of the note but i do not know how to do it with mine.
Have to include the audio stem files. It impacts the guitar track’s pitch so if you upload the whole song on that track it will pitch the whole song file. Need to split them up.
@@Tolberto I have just made a seperate guitar track, is there a way to enable whammy feature for moonscraper or is it automatic? I also do not know how to remove (or lessen) guitar volume after missing notes.
Hey man, question here. How do I create very fast consecutive notes in the charter? Like the ones you see in songs like Soulless or Megalodon? I'm having a problem figuring that out, as it appears to have a limit with that...
Change the step in the top left, believe the default step is 16th notes. Just pump it up to 64, and if that doesn’t do it for ya 128. You can either type it in, or use Q and W (I think) to go up and down steps
Generally, same mechanics but you don’t worry about pitch theory. It’s drum theory, which is kick is open note, snare is red, high hat is yellow, toms are blue and green, crash cymbal is either green or yellow. Pro drums gives cymbal control so cymbals are always pro and snare/toms are not. Kick remains open note.
Hello. And thank you for this tutorial! I have a question for you: I have imported the stem of each instrument; I'm just looking for a way to only listen to whatever instrument I'm charting and a metronome for the sake of precision. Is there a way to do this?
Am I right in assuming that you can't just tap-in a rough draft for your chart? Seems like a missed opportunity to implement, especially if you're dealing with fairly pronounced swing or free-form stuff you, knowing the song, already internalized. Maybe I gotta look deeper, but my search ended up here and it doesn't seem like it... fair game and cheers regardless. If anyone has any ideas to do it "live," I'd love to know. Maybe some autohotkey script would do the trick or something.
Is there a software where you can tap the tempo all the way through the track, then to add the notes just play them on guitar controller and clean up with mouse after???
If you want it only locally, drop the desired icon in the “Game Icons” folder in the game files. Should be in the same place as image custom backgrounds and highways. If you want it to be accessed by anyone that finds your charts, you need to follow the procedures for getting your icon on the gitlab database. gitlab.com/clonehero/sources

I'm a bit late but I just want to ask, how do you make it so that the guitar sound disappear if the player is missing a note? Yes I separated the song(without the guitar) and the one with only the guitar sound. Also I'm charting for gh2

@@ajream1414 convert the audio file to a readable format (preferably high quality ogg), which can be done any number of places online or an audio editor. hey im probably missing something simple but im not seeing the audiowave? (no idea what its called) the little bumps and lines along the highway that show when a song is louder/quieter. its only during note placement and makes charting difficult.
the mp3 website you use does not work for me i copy a url from youtube put it in and says no results doesnt seem to matter what song just the website is broken
There are plenty of sites to get downloads direct from other sources. The site I highlight doesn’t scour YT exclusively, so if the audio is only in a YT video it’s likely not part of their database. Other options involve high fidelity recording on OBS (time consuming) or another YT to mp3/mp4 converter.
In Moonscraper, my chart is completely synced and everything, but playing in clone hero, the chart is too early. Should I chart in moonscraper with the same Audio Offset that I use in my own clone hero, or should I be charting at 0 offset?
Audio offset for charts has stopped being supported in the more recent builds of clone hero. I would suggest looking for an audio editor and trying to get the timing fixed to the measures through adding silence as demonstrated in the video.
every time i try it doesnt work. "These folders have corrupt (or broken) notes.mid or notes.chart files!" If i do a .mid, it works but the sustains arent accurate anymore. what do i do to fix this
.mid is the wrong file type. If your chart exports are bugged or broken, my guess is you are missing proper software from moonscraper. Check for a more recent update.
If the whole game black screens, look for an update to the software, if the song just starts and ends abruptly it’s likely an ini issue. Check the song length or re export
Right click and drag the note to the desired duration. The duration also locks to you click rate that’s set in the top left (the 16/24/32/48/64 figure) so be aware of that!
I'm not sure if this is your issue, but if you're seeing the waveform when checking bpm, and not when you're placing notes, you just click the dropdown menu next to waveform in the top right and select "song".
I would double check the scrub bar on the side of your chart to see where it says the last note is. If you still have problems with length, you can find a chart of comparable length and copy the song length from that ini file to see if it helps.
When I make a chart, it then does not let me use the whammy in game. Anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Its just the ones I've made that no longer work
the should have integrated midi so you could program these using a midi note data then you would easily be able to set the colours to the bass drum, snare, hi hat, cymbal, ride with out accidentally mismatching them.
Hello, I am not sure how, but I have 2 notes at the end of my song that are not showing in Moonscraper. The rest of my chart is perfect, but I need these 2 notes deleted :(
You can change the length of the audio file and stretch it until the notes can be seen, edit the song length in the ini, or any combination of length edit to clear the charting beyond the given length

I added drums to a chart I made that originally only had guitar, but I can't get it to show up in clone hero after I've saved and scanned. From customs I've seen with full band, they've all had it in one chart file, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
To check presence of a drum chart you have to be on a drum input. Generally, a good way of knowing is if the difficulty icon appears under the songs info. Otherwise, I’d make sure that that the chart is 4 lane/pro friendly as 4 lane is the standard.
Yes I did chart it in 4 lane pro drums. Should the difficulty icon appear if I'm not on a drum input? I don't actually have a setup, I just want to know it can work for future reference.
@@TheGreatWent2112 icon will be there as long as the ini on the drum line doesn’t say -1 I think. You can reset the advanced settings to make sure, or just change the controller type in the player profile while on keyboard to check, I believe.

Importing on flac is not an option. It gets best quality as a root file, but you always have to format it to something MS will take. MP3 or OGG preferred. I’ve charted 45 minute albums before so I don’t think the length is limited, but feel free to test.
Great vid, Just did my first chart. Everything is pretty solid, I do have have a question though. After I moved my chart to Clone Hero the note speed is a bit faster than I prefer. What exactly in my custom chart controls this? Is there a way to adjust it without re doing the whole thing? Thanks!

I appreciate the amount of charts people created, knowing they had to do this very slowly & get it to sound good
You can either put your desired icon in the designated icons folder and list it under the whatever-icon-name.png then have the ini direct to whatever-icon-name, or add to the gitlab list here gitlab.com/clonehero/sources Just have to make sure the ini icon info matches the file name without the file designation

hey im probably missing something simple but im not seeing the audiowave? (no idea what its called) the little bumps and lines along the highway that show when a song is louder/quieter. its only during note placement and makes charting difficult.
You mean wave form? Theres a wave form drop down menu at the top. Set that to song. Hope that helps. :)
Why do you have to do that bpm thing
thanks much appreciated
question: how can I know if a song changes tempo in the middle of it?
Have to notice it by ear
You know if there are any charting programs for mac yet?
it was 80 bpm ......
you slay
No you :)
the mp3 website you use does not work for me i copy a url from youtube put it in and says no results
doesnt seem to matter what song just the website is broken
One RED FLAG I HAVE is You cant place down notes while playing like in other rythm games editor
some website rythm games like rythm+@burnervelli
rhythm+@burnervelli and gpop
every time i try it doesnt work.
Check for a more recent update.
song properties are nessesary for exporting
Can I pay you to make some charts of my songs?
Twitter in the bio! DM and we’ll see
hey man. i think i do everything properly but i try to start the song in clone hero but it jsut black screens. any idea?
If the whole game black screens, look for an update to the software, if the song just starts and ends abruptly it’s likely an ini issue. Check the song length or re export
Hey man just curious because it's killing me right now not knowing, but how do I make a note that has to be held down for a duration of time?
Right click and drag the note to the desired duration. The duration also locks to you click rate that’s set in the top left (the 16/24/32/48/64 figure) so be aware of that!
Hello, I seem to be having an issue, where there are no notes visible. I have no modifiers on. I have done everything that I can think of.
Try loading the cart file that’s in you song folder and see if it carried over properly. If not, re export the original.
Thx so much
I can't place notes and see the waveform at the same time. Can someone help me out, thanks.
I'm not sure if this is your issue, but if you're seeing the waveform when checking bpm, and not when you're placing notes, you just click the dropdown menu next to waveform in the top right and select "song".
@@ionlyswimfree9387 yes! Thanks mate!
It says that the song cant load, is there any way to fix that?
It also wont download the song as song.ogg
am I stupid or something bc the audio of my song is at least 3 minutes and the chart only goes up to 1 minute and 25 seconds I am so frustrated
Its just the ones I've made that no longer work
I’d check your controller settings first or if you have bot on by accident
the should have integrated midi so you could program these using a midi note data then you would easily be able to set the colours to the bass drum, snare, hi hat, cymbal, ride with out accidentally mismatching them.
I think you can use a midi track
Next can you please chart darkwing duck love your tutorials
Hello, I am not sure how, but I have 2 notes at the end of my song that are not showing in Moonscraper. I get an error Found Chart Object Beyond Length of Song
Obviously I need to delete these notes, but I can't see them, since they are past where the song ends.. Do you have any idea how to fix this?

Apparently I didn't have the latest version of clone hero when I was almost certain I did. Everything works perfect now. Thank you for still helping with people's questions almost a year later!
Will the react legacy wireless guitar work for clone hero I got the ps2 to usb adapter for it as well
It should
what you you suggest i do if a song doesn't have a very consistent bpm?
I put bpm markers every measure and adjust as I listen through the first time. It should take a few minutes to get everything tempo mapped properly.
Is there a maximum size the audio file can be? One of the songs is 30 Mb on FLAC
Thanks!
Note speed is a setting in clone hero you change through your profile. Check it in the pull up menu after you log on.
@@Tolberto Thanks I did know that. It just seems this specific chart I made is moving faster than others.
@@WhatUpThirst609 if it’s chart specific, I would look at the tempo mapping to see if it’s bpm is affecting the Highway speed
@@Tolberto ok perfect! So if I tweak the tempo will I have to re make the whole chart or no?
@@WhatUpThirst609 depends on how frequently you placed bpm counters. If you did often not likely to be hard, but it will affect placement. That’s why it’s always first step and is so important
i get an error when i try exporting
export to downloads instead of songs folder
Nice 👌
Is there a way to make some of the expert only songs easier like convert them to hard instead I heart there is a script program that reduces the difficulty
just choose the note.ini when you load a track and the select on the top left difficulty
@@pricefieldx on what program
@@pricefieldx can I just convert one of my custom downloaded songs from expert only to hard cause I don’t know how to make my own songs
@@R3ALTR1LLK1LLA you have to make it yourself my recommendation is to load it on moonscraper copy paste the entire song on hard and remove and move the notes that are giving you trouble 👍 I've only just started charted so I'm not sure if there's any other way but I've been making expert and hardmodes for my charts cause my friend is not very good at the game lol
@@pricefieldx can u make songs if I ask for me?
So im confused on what he was talking about the diffiulties, and how to make the other ones.
There is a tab at the top to change between which difficulty you are charting for.
@@Tolberto now watching the video back i see that tab, my other question is are you saying not to click the copy down to lower difficulty in the export tab. and just do them manually. For the other difficulties. thanks for the response.
@@blakeangelocci1571 yes, chart each manually if you care to allow charts to be accessible to lower difficulty. Bare minimum, chart for expert.
i can't make all notes HOPO even tho they are extremely close to eachother
Make sure the “force” box isn’t ticked or try to mass select the section you want hopo and hit H on your keyboard
are you gonna stream anytime soon?
Ever since I moved and got a new job most of my time has been dedicated elsewhere. I try the occasional stream every now and then, but I won’t be consistent for a while again.

can someone chart a song for me?
"could have been me" by the struts
i pay 10 bucks if it works...
i believe this chart is already made
@@Locbinc i downloaded it, but it doesnt work
i wish i could do this but i cant get adobe audition
Use audacity or any other audio editing software! There are plenty that have enough tools to do the simple things needed here
If only they made an automated note placer tool now that ai is starting to become a large thing online, I could always go back and fix it during testing but it saves a lot of fucking time. I appreciate the amount of charts people created, knowing they had to do this very slowly & get it to sound good
does this get detected as a virus/cheat and get me banned on other games like r6, fortnite, etc?
How can i get my icon?
You can either put your desired icon in the designated icons folder and list it under the whatever-icon-name.png then have the ini direct to whatever-icon-name, or add to the gitlab list here
gitlab.com/clonehero/sources
Just have to make sure the ini icon info matches the file name without the file designation
@@Tolberto Thanks
can i downgrade expert songs here?
You can load any chart in and rechart the lower difficulties. Should be an export setting to copy to lower difficulties and arrange them. You’ll have to reexport it and will consider the chart separate from whichever you downloaded.
