It's a shame all these lovely old buildings on the north prom and south of the pleasure beach are ever allowed to get to the state they are before the fires. They all would look brilliant if they had money spent on them but easier said than done. Great video again Jane.

@@visitfyldecoast yeah, totally agree. Pity they aren't treated as listed buildings as they are a big part of Blackpool's heritage. Sooner have these buildings being preserved other than more being built like that monstrosity on the front near the tower that will look run down in 10 years.

Shows how close it all was to self collapse. As there was almost no effort or force into the frontage pulling away like that. And with alot of the floors being gone thats also stressed the party walls so if they gave up then it would have gone on its own.

Some fabulous footage in this one 👍 We are actually staying at the cliffs hotel later on in May so looks like it will be gone and safe again by then, I had just booked it the morning the fire started so have been both intrigued and nervous about what would be happening, I know it’s exciting to see but I don’t fancy staying right next door with all that going on. Thanks Jane x
It’s not had any impact on neighbouring hotels. Even the Berkeley in the same block is operating as normal

Kris and myself watched with fascination as the demolition staerted - thank you VFC for making this possible! I remember the demolition of the last of the partially damaged building after WW2 - vastly different machines and very dangerous indeed!

I'll be honest - I love watching demolitions. in fact, I chose my current home address because of the promise of the area undergoing redevelopment and that meant a ringside seat when the dozers arrived. I absolutely loved it!!
however, there was one time, I sat on the edge of a raised container garden to film stairs being removed and what I didn't see was I was sat on an ants nest. worse? visitors arriving before I'd got rid of all the ants, so I had to endure a load of ants crawling around me and then as soon as I was able, go stand in the bath and strip everything off and shake out what ants were left.
there were two dozers on the properties - a big dozer chewing into the brickwork and concrete, and a smaller one crushing the big chunks into dust. It was like watching a mother dozer feeding her child. David Attenburger could've given it a voice over and it would've been perfect. 👍

I went past the site of the Harris factory at Calne, it was demolished 40 years ago by a crane with ball

The intense heat destroys the morter, it's only the weight of the bricks holding it all together....

Seems like the lightest touch is needed to bring those walls down. No wonder they have got on with the demolition so quickly.

Quick question. Was this hotel formerly called The Ruskin Arms Hotel before New Hacketts? The reason I’m asking is because the building looks exactly the same and as I went back to view my Stag weekend footage back in 2016 and it was on the exact location on the exact corner on the same street?
