Your theory videos prevent me from losing the flame to improve in guitar
Marty, I am amazed at your ability to both explain and demonstrate these concepts in a way where we can instantly put into action. I haven't even played it yet, and I feel like I just became a better musician by watching this. Damn this is good. Thank you Marty.
Wow. Explaining those intervals of c maj all the way up the neck and how they relate to the pentatonic shapes really unlocked the door for me, thanks man
The stuff with the thirds on the E and B string as help in soloing is maybe THE BEST guitar advice I've ever heard.
I agree
can someone put a timestamp on where marty demonstrates this?
@@osru_ 7:09
@@davulcu64st since these are triads you are going to be using ONLY 3 notes, so that triad is like just a fragment or piece of the bigger b chord shape, a reason you do that is because triads just have a different kind of sound then the bigger and fatter chords, they can also be used for other things like soloing and stuff later on when you get into targeting the chord tones when soloing
Yes💯💯💯
I'm from down south. I grew up in the Mississippi Delta. I'm so much enjoying playing and learning thanks to you. Thanks to people like you, Marty, I'm inspired. My life long I've wanted to be involved with music. Of all the art forms, music is by far the one that I take most to like a beaver in water. Growing up music was as much a part of my life as was breathing. I can't imagine being who am without music, or how I would have survived, against the greatest of odds, if it wasn't for music. The many sounds are so familiar, and so interrelated, the gospel, blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, surrounding me, beginning as young child and growing up. Looking forward to doing covers of music seemingly forgotten or put aside for some reason or another which was familiar to me growing up. Much of it, I never hear anywhere. I appreciate the contribution that you're making by way of making your work and knowledge accessible to the many. Keep up the good work. Someday I hope to share with you some of what I accomplish. God willing.
Another killer lesson. The force is strong with this one!
Thank you so much Marty. I was getting stuck in a rut soloing but between this and your major lesson last week I feel like my game is taking on a whole new form. Keep those modes coming brother!
I'm digging the theory lessons. There's always more to learn and explore
I could listen to you jam over a dorian track all day man. Great stuff
Hey Marty, listening from Australia. I am a blind guy playing lovely guitars but find your lessons so helpful and revealing. The clarity of your work is superb and always always appreciated.
Man. Can't grab it all right now but will be working on this. Many Many thks for opening up my Guitar playing.
Marty glad to see you again! I love this lesson man! Please do more lessons on the different modes. Loving it!
Fantastic! Been trying to figure out this mode business and you made it really hit home. Jamming along with you(not nearly as well) in C major and D minor pentatonic and it really sounded good. Thanks so much!
1 year in and this video helped me so much. I am self taught and i’m already grasping this concept pretty well with how scales work, the tones that make those scales stand out as well. This helped me get a better understanding to this mode. Once you know your majors, it’s very easy to find the others. Thanks Marty!!
That was some great solo work! You're a blessing to guitar players everywhere.
Man, I love the sound those top strings from each chord down the scale makes. Thanks for the lesson!
These kind of lesson really add to your chops. Love them.
I've seen many many many videos on modes in my time. This for sure is the most clear explanation of them. Thank you!
Very nicely done..thanks for sharing your talent and taking the time to provide us with this helpful lesson.
Marty, this video has given me a TREMENDOUS amount of tool to work with..definitely going to this on my daily regimen to watch a few days straight to absorb inside and out..thank you! Keep rockin!
Super helpful, Marty. Thanks so much. You have a very direct and logical way of teaching, and not leaving a student bored, or left waiting. This is exactly what I was looking for with better knowledge of the Dorian scale. You take the path of learning much further by relating the scale to where and how it fits with the C major scale (and how to find your place if you get lost. Nice playing as well, which makes learning all the more rewarding, and infectious. Peace, man!
This might be the best lesson I’ve ever seen you do. Have never even looked at the Dorian scale and this actually made sense. 5 years in.
I always enjoyed your instructional videos but this is by far the best I've seen so far anywhere. Thank you so much.
The light bulb is getting brighter. Best explanation of Dorian I've heard yet. And that trick of taking the first two notes (B and E strings) from each chord of the key and playing them up and down the neck was really an eye opener! Makes perfect sense so it stuck with me. And it sounds great to boot. Thanks Marty. You are much appreciated!
Thank you Marty! I'm learning things I never thought I would figure out! Excellent instruction!
Another great lesson Marty, keep up the legendary work man!
I've been playing guitar for 20 years and struggled to solo and understanding the fret board. I practiced the crap out of the minor pentatonic scale or would walk up and down scales and it always sounded pretty elementary. I'Ve heard these terms before but never understood how they relate to each other. Last night this video helped me "unlock" something and it all became clear! Thanks so much!
What a great lesson! Thank you Marty! You sound awesome!
much love for you Marty and everything you’ve done for me and my journey of playing the guitar. you are my idol. thank you
Marty I can't wait to get home and play with these concepts, thank you Marty for all that you do and being here for is right here on Marty Music. Your the king of UA-cam Marty!!!!
Joe B Joe bonamassa?? Lol
Great video! Well explained. I really enjoyed your solo at the end.....some very cool sounds in there.
One of the best, most useful lessons that gives us endless ideas....and I've been playing for years !Greetings from Australia Marty !!!
Greetings from the UK, excellent stuff Marty, you are my favourite teacher - what ever I need to learn, I can usually find on your site. Stay safe
Great job explaining Dorian and the other modes, Marty. Very nice playing, too!
Great video, in many aspects. The connection between chords and scale is super useful, and simple examples of picking few notes here and there to build a nice progression is also a fantastic, though simple, way to build beautiful phrases. It's early in the morning here, but cant wait people to wake up so i can play. Great impro, great tone, great touch and feeling. Clearly one of the very best video on dorian mode.
Huge thanks!
I watch a lot of this type of video, and your solos/jams are by the most musical. Many people noodle around, but yours sound like an actual pro solo. The explanation
Was great too! Thanks for another great vid!
Great lesson! Easy to understand the way you explained it
THANKS Marty, videos like this are a crucial part of learning how to improvise a solo with some confidence.
I always wanted to learn to play guitar but in the beginning it was slow and frustrating.
Alfred E Newman but with Yousician
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lmao!
Well you're watching the wrong video if you want to learn. Start with simple chords. That way you'll at least be able to play the guts of any song.
Wayne Kerr wooooooooooooosh
Watching your videos make my day ☺️ you're a great teacher Marty. Thank you and keep up the great work.
This is the absolute best lesson on the Dorian Mode I have found , Great Teacher and Smart Video = inspiration ! Thanks ! You should print up T shirts !
i always enjoy watching your videos. you make all the theory analogy so easy and fun.
Your videos are getting better every time. Thanks
Absolutely Great Lesson! Thanks so much! Especially love the interesting music theory lessons and the easy songs :-)
Love how you break down a simi advanced concept.
This simplifies complex sounds we've all heard but can't find.
Just to be clear... Marty is simply moving up one chord at a time to play in the next mode. This is not changing keys...he's still using the same chords.
If he moves up one chord and changes keys the majors and minors even the 7th diminished would chance orders. He's using the key chords the same.
That's the unique sound of each mode. When he plays the scales from a chord he's playing not the key...it works but gives different feels.
Very cool Marty.
Thanks
Your lesson help me alot buddy ... keep up the good work ..❤
Incredible ending jam - so so clean. Keep doin you Marty!!
HOLY FUCK. Marty you just split my wig. Straight up just watching this video has increased my guitar playing level. I’ve been taking my music theory class at my community college seriously and watching you apply what i (somewhat) now know to guitar playing has totally made these concepts click. Well Done Marty i’m a huge fan. i am tense with excitement.
I have to learn the modes for my senior project and these videos are killer thanks so much Marty keep these up!
What would we do without you, I've been watching your videos for awhile now and I can truly say you have helped my progression big time in the last 12 months!! Love the new theory videos, thank you brother 💪🏽💥
Love your lessons thanks Marty!
Fantastic lesson Marty! Really made it clear. Thanks.
Awesome lesson. And nice chops!
Marty, this is one of your best lessons, IMO. I hope we can expand on this, with perhaps additional " devices", and/ or some review showing how these connect to the minor pentatonic, in the various positions. Thanks!!
GREAT Lesson! You make everything musical (sense)! Thanks again... JD
Marty, I recently learned about harmonizing chords from the major scale ant was eye opening. I've also recently grasped how Modes can be used with those chord progressions. This lesson on Dorian concepts will only serve to step my game up even more and help me to better understand these concepts. Please post some more modal concept videos! This is great stuff!
Great video, and nice tone! Marty, honestly I can say you're one of the pillars of UA-cam guitar!
Hey Marty, thanks for another awesome video! I've been getting back into playing regularly (50 years +/- guitar friend, too long off the neck!) and your videos have helped break the old muscle memory stuff I've been fighting.. Thanks Marty!
Thanks Marty! great lesson, you just blew my mind open to new conceptual ideas with the Dorian mode.
Now I just got to apply those ideas into my practice to reap the rewards!😀🙏👍
That Mr Schwartz ,is a great lesson ! Simple and brilliant at the same time . More power to you
Thank you, learned so much from this! Love your stuff.
Nice simple breakdown of applying the Dorian mode! Thanks.
Another great lesson Marty. We get frustrated because we want to be there but we must enjoy the ride on the way. You my friend are becoming a very good jazz player.
Amazing class, Marty! I love your work and I always learn something new from it. :)
Very helpful and well explained. Thanks!
I loved that end jam! Thanks, Marty from the past.
Your help is really great Marty thank you so much it's fun to learn to play in these different modes
Made it a little easier to understand. Thanks chief. Love the jam at the end. Could listen all day. #GuitarGoals
So glad to see good teachers like you demystifying modes... props.
Damn Marty, that improv at the end was lit! Thanks for the lessons from Argentina, keep the good work!

Excellent explanation done simplified
Man, I wish I could play half that well, and I love that Dorian sound. I may get there someday if MM keeps posting lessons like this one explaining and showing how it's done!
Brilliant lesson. Much food for thought.
Best explanation of modes. Well done!
wooo marty!!! you just made modes click in my head!!! now i can actually apply this to my playing way more effortlessly. youre a God send bro. keep up the hard work man it shows in your playing and teaching
Another brilliant lesson sir! Thanks so much.

Very nice lesson. Also thanks for showing the tricks up your sleeves :)
i enjoyed learning your solo at the end cheers
Awesome lesson marty...learned a lot from this video....please make lesson for other modes also....
Yet another great lesson. Thanks a lot!
Right on Marty, i'm always learning from you , your teaching style is superb but, this one man, this lesson just sent my guitar playing into overdrive as I recently just found the Dorian 2-5... and now the Dorian Mode & Pentatonic in C Scale, "Light Bulb moment dude!" right on keep those modes coming!
Thank you for these mode lessons. Learning scales at age 56 was way intimidating at first. The more I watch your videos the more it makes sense. I love when I am watching one of your lessons and the light bulb goes off and I get it!
Mike Gourley Totally with you, I'm 53 and Marty's lessons in all their guises have been my learning foundation for three years
By far Now I got a lot of work just on this video alone
So much in so little!
Thanks again!
Thanks again Marty for great content. The last two years I've gone from struggling with the the pentatonic scales to covering Clapton Material, rhythm and leads and creating improve solos on backing tracks. I have a 24 fret Gibson SG Special and a Line 6 Spider V 60 amp modelling amp with the FVB Shortboard MKII foot pedal. Great fun. Thanks for your dedicated help Marty.
Such a fantastic lesson!
Such a great lessons...mahalo for the tips!! Love them.
Really meaty lesson - thanks Marty! You start with " D Dorian" is C major moved up to the 2nd = D minor" and go from there. Very useful to know, since all the notes and chords are the same, and you do a great job connecting to the familiar pentatonic and actually getting us *using it.*. Just wanted to say that I found it helpful to also connect Dorian to "same as the minor scale but with a major 6th," i.e., think of it terms of intervals. In some contexts that gives me other familiar, practical references. May be helpful for some people. (Generally, if you know your major , minor, and pentatonic scales, all the modes are single-note or single-interval deviations from these.)
Love the way you teach. Thanks Marty⭐️
Fantastic lesson thank you
Marty you have really expanded my knowledge with the theory lessons. Thank you
