Shabab the Kabab sorry, i meant some live-action projects but animation cinematography because there are a few films that did some shots of hand-held motion, but I would like to do that throughout a film in order to win Best Cinematography from the BAFTA Awards.

Where the hell is Sven Nykvist??? ...he was one of the most important and inspirational cinematographers for both American and European films, known for his frequent collaboration with Ingmar Bergman. He used a variety of natural lighting schemes both for black-and-white and color. As from a bio on him: "Nykvist used light to create mood and, more significantly, to bring out the natural flesh tones in the human face so that the emotion of the scene could be played out on the face without the light becoming intrusive."

Hall (R.I.P.), he's also been a winner of 3 Academy Awards for Butch Cassidy, American Beauty and Road to Perdition (his last work before his death, the Oscar was posthumous).
watchmojo is so dumb. they put The Revenant picture to thumbnail and didn't mention it in the video, for which Emmanuel Lubezki won his 3rd consecutive oscar, not 2.
That Lubezki Fellow is unreal! The revenant, bird man all great films. Just watched The Tree of Life and came to find out he did that too! Hope he continues making more and more!
They information is wrong with Lubezki. He has one THREE Academy Awards back-to-back-to-back. Gravity, Birdman and now The Revenant. All undoubtedly deserving.
And Greg Toland, and Freddie Young, who both should have easily been in the top five. Toland whose magnum opus is a little film called CITIZEN KANE, and Freddie Young who did Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia and Ryan's Daughter, to name a few. Both are infinitely better than Libatique or Doyle.
It's too bad Roger Deakins has never won an Oscar. Hell, "Fargo" really is one of the best photographed films I've ever seen (I believe "The English Patient" won the award that year).
You Know Lubezki won 3 Oscars in a row? For Gravity, Birdman and this year for the Revenant. C`mon the Revenant is already in the thumbnail all you had to do was google.

God knows how long I've been waiting for this video to come out. But to be honest you could have used better scenes to demonstrate each cinematographers unique style. This video just made all of cinematography look average and the same...
1. Emmanuel Lubezki (The Tree of Life, The New World, Birdman, The Revenant) 2. Roger Deakins (No Country for Old Men; Skyfall; The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford; True Grit; The Man Who Wasn't There) 3. Conrad L. Hall (Road to Perdition; American Beauty; Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; Tequila Sunrise; Love Affair) 4. Robert Richardson (Hugo; The Aviator; Inglourious Basterds; Kill Bill; Platoon; Django Unchained) 5. Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now; The Last Emperor; Dick Tracy; The Last Tango in Paris; Reds; Café Society) 6. Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood; Inherent Vice; Magnolia; Good Night, and Good Luck; Punch-Drunk Love) 7. Why do people think Leo took to long to be justified by the academy? Deakins has... What?... 13 nominations dating back to the early 90s? Seriously! When is he gonna win?!
I've been waiting for this video for a long time but i'm disappointed, this video is terrible WHERE ARE THE CINEMATOGRAPHERS ? how am i supposed to recognize them if i can't see their faces ? also Emmanuel Lubezki has 3 consecutive Oscars not two
How do you talk about Emmanuel Lubezki and not mention the films he's done with Terrence Malick? Considering most people would go as far to say "The Tree of Life" has the best cinematography of any movie this decade - maybe even ever - that's a horribly glowing emission from his section.
So many names missing from this list. Giuseppe Rotunno who worked frequently with Fellini and was cinematograpger of All That Jazz, Sven Nykvist as his frequent collaboration with Bergam. John Alcott who did Barry Lyndon, A Clockwork Orange, and The Shining. Robby Muller and his work on films like Paris Texis and Down By Law. Frederick Elmes who shot Eraserhead and Blue Velvet. Greg Toland and his stunning work on Citizen Kane, Nicholas Roeg , before he was a director he was an accomplished cinematographer which marks his own works.
No Jack Cardiff WTF? This was the man Scorcese regarded as the greatest cinematographer of all time, he shot such films as Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes
What about Alex Thomson, Henri Alekan, Allen Daviau, Vilmos Zsigmond, Vittorio Storaro, Thierry Arbogast, Philippe Rousselot, Dean Cundey, Douglas Slocombe, Guillermo Navarro, Dante Spinotti, Oswald Morris, Freddie Francis, Henri Decaë, Jack Cardiff... etc ?
You can't have a list of the best cinematographers and not mention one of the greatest in film history, Gregg Toland (The Grapes of Wrath, Citizen Kane, Wuthering Heights, Dead End, Kidnapped, The Best Year of Our Lives, The Westerner etc.)
Cinematographers are criminally underrated in Hollywood
No, stunt coordinators are.
Cinematographers should be revered in Hollywood. Any actor that downplays the DP is an idiot.

They obviously just went to a list on like reddit or something and basically copy-pasted.

Deakins is the "used-to-be" DiCaprio of Cinematography.
Skyfall cinematography is gorgeous.
Gabriel Cerrato ....Roger deakins also did Shawshank redemption
Gabriel Cerrato it is, indeed. and it has my favorite intro out of all bond films.

I'm not close minded man. I still watch theses shit movies and hope for the best. I just don't like them.
+Dan Miller if you don't like them why do you watch them?
this was a much awaited list.
hahhaa
Yea but they screwed it up though
+Marcus Golden how
Andrew Lesnie should've been in the top 5
You could make a top ten list of the cinematographers WatchMojo neglected.
This channel is weirdly obsessed with the Big Lebowski, oh and Heath Ledger's Joker, they are in most top 10 lists involving films. :D
HOW DO YOU FORGET EMMANUEL WINNING FOR THE REVENANT FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW????
Vilmos Zsigmond, Laszlo Kovacs, Robert Yeoman, Michael Ballhaus, Vittorio Storaro, Benoit Debie, Conrad Hall, Sven Nykvist, Freddie Francis, Jeff Cronenweth, Gregg Toland, Tonino Delli Colli, and Haskell Wexler
God knows how long I've been waiting for this video to come out. But to be honest you could have used better scenes to demonstrate each cinematographers unique style. This video just made all of cinematography look average and the same...
1. Emmanuel Lubezki (The Tree of Life, The New World, Birdman, The Revenant)
2. Roger Deakins (No Country for Old Men; Skyfall; The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford; True Grit; The Man Who Wasn't There)
3. Conrad L. Hall (Road to Perdition; American Beauty; Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; Tequila Sunrise; Love Affair)
4. Robert Richardson (Hugo; The Aviator; Inglourious Basterds; Kill Bill; Platoon; Django Unchained)
5. Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now; The Last Emperor; Dick Tracy; The Last Tango in Paris; Reds; Café Society)
6. Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood; Inherent Vice; Magnolia; Good Night, and Good Luck; Punch-Drunk Love)
7. Bruno Delbonnel (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; Amélie; Inside Llewyn Davis; A Very Long Engagement; Across the Universe)
8. Janusz Kaminski (Schlinder's List; War Horse; The Diving Bell and the Butterfly; Amistad; Lincoln)
9. Robert Yeoman (The Grand budapest Hotel; Moonrise Kingdom; The Royal Tenenbaums; Life Aquatic; Rushmore)
10. Claudio Miranda (Life of Pi; The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttom; Oblivion)
Honorable Mentions: Wally Pfister, Gordon Willis, Barry Ackroyd, Caleb Deschanel, John Alcott, Seamus McGarvey, and Jordan Cronenweth (specially for Blade Runner)
Didn't Lubezki win 3 years in a row?
he did. He won one this year for the Revenant.
Doyle did an astounding job with Hero! Absolutely stunning!
Kindiah Christopher Doyle is a master of light and color. Hero is the most gorgeous movie I've ever seen.
No Gilbert Taylor? Star Wars, The Omen, Dr. Strangelove?
Why do people think Leo took to long to be justified by the academy? Deakins has... What?... 13 nominations dating back to the early 90s? Seriously! When is he gonna win?!
I don't think Leo is all that great...
When he wont go up against Lubezki.
Ben . I think he's gonna win for Blade Runner 2049
No Conrad Hall? No Gregg Toland? No Sven Nykvist? Is this list supposed to be serious...?
incredibly pissed off they didn't even mention Conrad L. Hall, Sven Nykvist and Freddie Young
They should be doing a "Top 10 Cinematographers by Decade" series instead of glossing over so many important contributions...
I agree
Also Vadim Yusof
I've been waiting for this video for a long time but i'm disappointed, this video is terrible
WHERE ARE THE CINEMATOGRAPHERS ? how am i supposed to recognize them if i can't see their faces ?
also Emmanuel Lubezki has 3 consecutive Oscars not two
How do you talk about Emmanuel Lubezki and not mention the films he's done with Terrence Malick? Considering most people would go as far to say "The Tree of Life" has the best cinematography of any movie this decade - maybe even ever - that's a horribly glowing emission from his section.
Will C Same thing with Darius, without showing his work with Jeunet
2 good films huh ?
No one has had a bigger impact on color cinematography than Cardiff.
What about Alex Thomson, Henri Alekan, Allen Daviau, Vilmos Zsigmond, Vittorio Storaro, Thierry Arbogast, Philippe Rousselot, Dean Cundey, Douglas Slocombe, Guillermo Navarro, Dante Spinotti, Oswald Morris, Freddie Francis, Henri Decaë, Jack Cardiff... etc ?
I don't care what anyone says, Lubezki is the greatest of all time! (And I love Deakins btw)
I don't think lubezki is as good with those shots without cgi
@@taylorsalim2004 lmao what cgi, have you seen The Tree of Life? Children of Men? The Revenant?
mad max I said without cgi
You can't have a list of the best cinematographers and not mention one of the greatest in film history, Gregg Toland (The Grapes of Wrath, Citizen Kane, Wuthering Heights, Dead End, Kidnapped, The Best Year of Our Lives, The Westerner etc.)
