I saw a statement somewhere that said Slicer acts much like the Page Filter so I couldn't understand why we need Slicer. Your video gives good examples of how it can be used, making the spreadsheet easier to use by those who don't really know Excel and it's features. Good job. Thanks.
Thank you Jill! Slicers make filtering more interactive, and are great for users of your files that are not familiar with the filter drop-down menus. They also make it easier to see the items that are selected when multiple items are selected in the slicer or filter. I hope that helps. Thanks again!
Thanks Jon! This is very helpful. For my report, I created a "Category" field that groups several "Services" - so the Category is the first slicer to shorten the choice of Services. Then I added those field names as "Report Filters" on the pivot table (I'll hide those rows in the final report). By doing this, I can test whether one or the other says "(All)" to see what filters are set. From that I have set my report header formula to reflect the contents of the resulting data, e.g.: Only Category selected: Volumes for the Neuroscience Category during May 2016 - May 2017 vs. A single service selected: Volumes for Adult Neurology Service during May 2016 - May 2017vs. No filters selected, "(All)" on both filters: Total Volume of Requests during May 2016 - May 2017 Hope someone finds this useful as well! Kim
Thank you Sir Jon for sharing your expertise in Pivot Table and Slicer. Now I know the purpose of these tools. I hope you give more and tricky activities on it. I have learned a lot from your videos and I know now on how to execute these tools.
Hi Jon, what do you do if you have multiple slicers? I have a slicer for province, district, sub-district and facility. I want all of them to be connected so that if I filter for sub-district, it filters out all the non-applicable provinces, districts, and facilities. Ideally, it would also bring the relevant options to the top of the slicer like you showed in your video.
Hi Jon. Your videos are great and easy to follow. Thank you! I'm trying to record a filter via multiple slicers. Meaning, I have 7 slicers, I'd like to create a button to filter the pivot slicers for a specific team. Is that possible? I recorded my movements by choosing what I wanted on each slicer but it records every single "false" and takes a long time to run through.
Tx Jon for a simple but useful tips. Wonder if could also advice how would you summaries the value of top X items. My purpose of that is to know if top 10 or top 20 and so on, will meet the target revenue.
Hi! Video is great! I want to ask you is there a possibility, when you click a slicer, Sum of Revenue to be automatically sorted, Ascending or Descending?
It is possible to create dependent slicers but not just for the first character as this video but rather for actual dependent filters?? For example, instead of first letter and name, for system (1st slicer) and subsystem ( 2nd slicer). I hope you can help me. Thanks.
This is so informative. I'm randomly finding Jon's videos, isn't there a place to find all your videos. I'd gladly enroll in your courses/videos over the ones I've seen offered about excel. Do you offer courses on excel?
Thanks Puttn! You can find all my UA-cam videos on the Excel Campus Channel. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/channels/SxX7Vgyu9iThxPE1jSDFdw.html I do have online courses as well. Here is the link to those. www.excelcampus.com/courses I hope that helps. Thanks again for your support! :-)
Hi, I have 2 slicers one controls team, the other controls team members, is there a way to just show the team members relevant to that team rather than have them at the top with everyone else underneath?
Thank you for your helpful video. I have a need to convert a column within files which can consist of well over 30,000 lines, where I need to convert a land measurement format "640--10--0" _(acres--roods--perches)_ into Hectares. Is there a method I can use where I do not have to separate each value into a separate column and where the task occurs once the 'a--r--p' value is first entered into the column.
Hello John- Good day! bundles of thanks for sharing the solution of slicer filters. but I am facing the issue in filter pivot table when I click the any sale rep name my filter pivot table is is move to another column. how to fix it. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Jon, I really love this video and all your others.... Just wondering how you would search/sort using two or three letters or search the whole name to match using two or three letters. -Joseph
In the cell there is average formula and how to link the formula cell to the slicer according to the changed in the slicer there should be change in the average formula.
How can we choose only month end date data for historical data. Ex: 03/31/2018 this is month end its fine. But if the data for April is 04/25/2018 and for May 05/29/2018 and for june if it is again we have month end data (6/30/2018). Then how can we pick month end data for all particular months without changing any dates in excel.

Thank you.
Jon just discovered u this week and im in awe.
thank you for covering this topic in a very simple way
Nice simple trick to narrow down the filters with a helper column👍
Interesting how slicers work in summarizing data.Very helpful information
Useful and the applications of this are immense for the imaginative analyst
Very good tip, that helps to make a report more clearly.
Thanks Jon! This is very helpful.

brilliant idea so simple will really make a difference
Hi Sir, it’s really nice technique, i wanted to know is there any easy way to arrange slicer for quantities with range like 1-10 / 11-20 like that ?
thanks a lot... what I would additional need is a real filter for a slicer... not sure if that is even possible.
It is possible to create dependent slicers but not just for the first character as this video but rather for actual dependent filters?? For example, instead of first letter and name, for system (1st slicer) and subsystem ( 2nd slicer). I hope you can help me. Thanks.
Genius! Thank you.
thanks Jon! Slicers are amazing!
Thanks. This will help a lot with the data I have to analyze.
