This podcast is going to take off! Such insightful content. I wish I had the funds to become a patreon member, but I would like to respectfully request your coverage on the Faith Hedgepeth case. I am from North Carolina and the case has troubled me for years.
This is a pet case of mine. I go all the over the place with what I think happened. I connected with Brian in that I feel he felt a lot of pressure to be and do what everyone else expected. I lived a lot of my life under that pressure. I'm my heart I really HOPE he is on a beach somewhere. Living his best life.
Great video. Glad I found you. Saw you on Missing Maura Murray, which I have followed for years. In regards to the phone ping, I believe it was on the Brian Shaffer, Dead or Alive where they had cell phone experts say that this was most likely not a glitch. I wish I could be more specific which episode, but it’s there somewhere. Looking forward to more of your videos 👍 Oh, and BTW, my son is also a prosecutor so I am a tad partial to you two. Lol
Does anyone remember a case where an employee disappeared in a store and was found years later dead behind a cooler? Could something like that have happened?
Concerning the Phone ringing when Alexis called , she informed the detectives about the phone ringing and Brian's phone would ring several times threw out the day , it would only be considered a glitch if the phone only rang once , it is suspected that Brian's phone was turned on that day, it was not a glitch,
I just discovered you guys this week - and I'm hooked! You two are great! I love the way you attempt to just look at the facts as prosecutors and not go into conspiracy theories.
Read somewhere that there is a one of those companies that recycle old cell phones in that area or town. Perhaps it was turned in breifly during that process is the theory, which means someone maybe tossed it in one of those recycle boxes that used to be in the mall, or just found it and maybe got a few bucks for recycling it. Either way, this one is a true mystery. Love hearing it from the legal angle. Keep it up guys, this is the best true crime material on UA-cam.
Thank you for starting this podcast. We desperately needed someone with your expertise in true crime! I used to work in a kitchen. I hate to say this, but I think they could have gotten him out in a garbage can if they absolutely had to. I don't love this option bc it probably would require multiple people. But unless he slipped out the door unnoticed (which doesn't seem likely) I think there's a good chance he was murdered and made to disappear. It's also possible he OD'd and they cleaned up the evidence. But I don't love that theory either. The rain must have washed away his scent. For some reason I don't like the "he went to talk to the band" part. My friends are musicians, for some reason this doesn't sound right to me. Obviously people talk to them after shows but I feel like the band would have remembered him. My friends and I remember all the drunk people that come to ask about their music. Their questions are often ridiculous and they're music taste is usually hilarious. I don't know, it's probably nothing but I think the band would remember him. Especially considering he went missing that night. And the phone ping can not be discarded. It may be one of the only clues in this case. It must be examined. Clint worries me. But polygraphs do too. I'd be hesitant to take one but I'd be worried the police would immediately suspect me if I did not. I don't know what I would do in Clint's situation. I think I'd probably take it for the family. Sorry this comment is so long. I'm aware nothing I'm saying is groundbreaking. But I'm sitting here with no power lol...
He got caught with the wrong people. Probably got murdered by drug dealers. That area was notorious for organized crime. The one person (Clint) who knows what happened won't talk so we will never know.
My theory: He changed his shirt, added a hat, and left the same way he came in. He could have left a different shirt hidden somewhere when he was at the bar earlier. He also could have left with the band. He could have either snuck out in an equipment case or simply walked out the band entrance into a vehicle. He could easily decide to hide as a roadie and simply walk out. I also think his friend knew Brian’s plan and that’s why he didn’t take a polygraph. Seems strange but people disappear all the time for strange, unknown reasons.
Fascinating case! A couple questions come to mind while listening to your podcast. Did Brian drive to meet up with his friends? If so, his car being found at home is a clue. Either he somehow left the bar and returned home before disappearing or someone else did something to him and returned the car home. Also "they" would have us believe there's no back exit for employees or deliveries at the bar where he went missing? In 2006 only having one entrance/exit would have been considered a fire hazard and you'd think the bar wouldn't be allowed to operate.
Had to take a poly to become a dispatcher. It was the most never racking thing I’ve ever done. I don’t ever want to go through another 500 question 30 page background packet and then take a polygraph ever again.
Just found you guys yesterday and I am hooked! So excited to subscribe and wait for more awesomeness. I will also be sharing and suggesting yuns like crazy!
I believe he got caught up with organized crime in the area probably to due with drugs. There were a couple guys looking for him at the bar. He managed to escape the cameras and left the bar. The drug dealers caught up to him and murdered him and got rid of the body. His friend knew what happened to him, but due to his aspirations of being a doctor, did not want to get in trouble of getting expelled from medical school.
I was sent to take a polygraph for a job interview back in the early 2000's.I knew which question got me because it had to do with stealing or keeping something from a prior employer..I remember for some weird reason thinking about not returning an Avon kit that I had since I was a teenager..I think it is hilarious today but back then it really upset me,and it helped me understand just how easy those test are to fail, and I doubt that I would agree to take another one..I mean I felt like a big time thief over a some Avon lipstick samples..Lol!
It's best to tell the truth,it's prob a trick question, everyone has stolen something from an employer even it's a paperclip, and prob most have kept something from an employer that they should've told em. One question that is used to see if you're being deceptive is they'll ask you if you've ever thought you heard someone say ur name but no one was there. That's a common hallucination that has happened to just about everybody.if u say that never happened they figure ur telling em what they want to hear and not being honest.
I have followed this case for years. Here's my theory. At some point while Brian is in the Ugly Tuna Saloona he is approached by someone, probably a female, who invites him to a private, after-hours party. Being something of a party guy, Brian accepts. Except his car is still at his apartment several blocks away. The female says -- no problem, you can go with me. At about 2 a.m. that someone together with Brian casually walk out of the bar. But the female says -- let's use the service exit, it's faster than going down the escalator. So they both exist the building via the service exit at the back, the only exit where there is no security camera. The two get into a car that does not belong to Brian, and off they go. The female has no qualms about using the service exist because, and this is important, she works at the Ugly Tuna. At this point, no crime has been committed, no one has done anything wrong. Of all the theories I have listened to, the one I have proposed above is the only one that realistically fits the known facts. Now ... The party is quite a distance away from the Ugly Tuna and the university High Street area. Actually, it could have been anywhere in Columbus. At the party something bad happens. Either Brian is murdered for reasons unknown, or more likely, Brian dies of a drug overdose. (I am aware that the general consensus is that Brian did not do drugs; maybe this party was an exception). Everyone panics. The body is hoisted into a vehicle and thrown in some dumpster miles away from the Ugly Tuna. The dumpster is then emptied and the contents together with the body end up in some landfill, heaven only knows where. The problem I have with the police investigation is that they did not aggressively investigate the people in the bar, particularly the people who work there. Given that the body was never found, and given the length of time since the incident, it is unlikely that this mystery will ever be solved to everyone's satisfaction.
@@AtownOriginalMy theory is indeed speculative. But it is a complete theory, and one that is logical and makes sense given the people involved, and the circumstances. The phone is irrelevant, in my opinion. The phone company said the ring could easily have been a glitch. No, the femme fatale doesn't have to be someone who worked at the bar. But an employee would be more likely to know where the service door led, than a customer. And a female would be more likely to invite Brian than a male. If you want, substitute a female customer for the female bar attendant; and the end result is still the same. After hours parties are fairly common especially on weekends. And the after-hours party could have been anywhere; it doesn't have to be near the campus. What I would object to is an opinion based on contradiction in some factoid that the police have publicly stated. For example, if someone says: "Oh I think Brian just disguised himself when he exited via the escalator"; that kind of easy response does not require any serious thinking; it is not based on known fact, it's too simplistic, and it's grossly incomplete. It's easy to critique a complete theory because a complete theory in this case is so rare. But just try to create a COMPLETE theory that makes sense and is consistent with facts known to the Columbus police. That's what is lacking. For an alternate complete theory, I'm all ears. :)
@@AtownOriginal "it was ruled that glitch was not only unlikely but improbable." -------------------------------------------------------- I have not heard that. But I will assume that you are correct. In that case, it doesn't change my theory; it merely transfers the theoretical after-hours party to the location (more or less) where the phone pinged, or alternately to where the phone was then disposed of which could be miles from the party. (I kind of recall that it pinged a tower ~15 miles northwest of Columbus). My above theory would allow for a party somewhere in the Columbus area. But given the "improbable" nature of a phone glitch, my theory might not make sense if the phone pinged somewhere more distant, say in Indiana or Kentucky, for example. It's nice to discuss this case with someone who takes the case seriously.
This case is stranger than fiction! It's like a "locked-room" mystery, but it happened in real life. I have a theory (or theories) of what could be going on in most disappearances, like what might have happened to Maura Murray. But I have absolutely no idea about Brian. Polygraph tests are never issued in my country. I believe that the reason given is that it's based on pseudo-science. You guys have a good podcast! My opinion, based on profiler Pat Brown, is that Brian did end up leaving the bar, maybe from the back, where there were no cameras, maybe with an intent to have a fling with a women or even man. He he was flirting with girls at the bar entrence and put something in one of the girl's purse if you watch the wider angle of the available last footege. He could've put his number on a note in her back or whatnot. What l think is that he ended up going somewhere, and something bad happened to him there. Pat thinks he was likely killed. If he wasn't killed, l wonder if he was traffiked because he's very attractive, or recruited to some federal or int'l espionage agency where there's always a need for a doctor. He told Alexis at some point that maybe she shouldn't marry him or something. So it's possible that he was already recruited and tried to give her a hint or an out, but he wasn't able to cut the relationship.
Don't know what was your conclusion about Alyssa Lam, l'm pretty sure someone murdered her. No one goes swimming in a water tank in the middle of the night, knowing there's no way out. Not even a Bipolar manic parient with psychosis. (Though it increases the odds of impulsive acts) I think she was pushed, after someone wanted to show her to the very top. The roof was a hangout for many of the regulars at that hotel. Alissa didn't commit suicide by jumping into the tank, to die alone, slowly, by drowning, when there was a perfectly good roof nearby. She wasn't suicidal by all signs. She had future plans to go home and bought gifts for the parents. My opinion as a clinical psychologist specializing in suicide and crisis intervention
I think this is a missing person case that is a true one-off in that, yes, he somehow managed to formulate a scheme whereby he really did flee to begin a new life.
