Brian Shaffer's disappearance is just so haunting; it's one of the rare missing person cases that has stayed with me for years. Anyway, Alexis says that she's had the chance to step away and not have Brian's disappearance be the focus of her life; which I don't begrudge her (though getting married 3 years after his disappearance seems rather quick to move on). The one I really feel sorry for is Brian's brother Derek. This poor man lost his mother, brother, and father in rather quick succession and is the only one left of that family. Alexis may feel like what happened is all in her past and she no longer thinks about it, but Derek will probably never be able to detach his emotions so easily.
Do you hear yourself ??? 3 years is a long time .... what did you want her to do wait 10 ? she found happiness and that’s all that matters. She had to move on for her. Not to impress the likes of y’all.
I initially thought it was rather fast as well but it took me 5 years to get over my ex I haven't met anyone yet though. But yeah I think what happened was she had her life planned out and wanted certain things at certain periods and marriage is what she wanted in 2009 she wanted it to be brian but unfortunately that happened I see some denial in her that she's completely separated from this part of her life I think she has stuffed part of the emotion in thats how she copes so it feels like almost real but its not so I think counseling would help but I guess that's just how she wants to deal with it i also see her saying "why did he leave me" so she chose to only believe he's still out there and left not the alternative that would be incredibly painful I think that was less painful for her and helped her move on fast too. She misses him a lot more than she'd like to admit but worked her whole life to get where she is and didn't want anything getting in the way especially grief.
I don’t think it’s quick at all. They weren’t married, they were together less than a year. Thank goodness she is in a happy place with a loving family.
This case is so sad. Brian's family was struck with some seriously *_BAD_* luck. First his beloved mother dies from some freaky rare disease, then Brian vanishes into thin air, then his father gets killed by a falling tree, of all things. Now, the only fam he has left is his brother. And of course his girlfriend, Alexis seen here. I definitely believe his "drinking buddy" of that night, Clint Florence, is responsible for his death. In a situation like this, the odds of the culprit being the very same person that was last seen with the victim is extremely high. I think it's over 90%. Meaning that roughly 9 out of 10 times, the pwrson they are last seen with is the cold-blooded killer. I also believe that Brian's death was an accident of sorts. I think that Clint Florence had hurt him, maybe they got into a drunken fistfight (which is not uncommon), and Florence ended up killing him by accident and panicking. Making him dispose of the body. Probably in the nearby river. Im not a psychic or anything crazy like that. I've nust done a lot of research on this case, and that's nust my opinion. Florence also flat out refused to take a lie detector/polygraph test. And still does, to this day. Weird, if you ask me. He's definitely hiding something.
i think it happened in the construction site and clint (or whoever) put his body in a hole or place where the construction would be built on top of his body, never able to be found. thats how you have to look at this, where on earth does it make sense, considering all the facts, could he end up where he would never be discovered and imo it would be the construction site. the answer remains the same if one put self in a killers mindset in respect to where to get rid of the body without having to leave the building, construction site.. it should be dug up and combed imo as im confident hes there :(
William Savary Yeah Clint Florence clearly must’ve had something to do with Brian’s disappearance. He refused to take a lie detector test. He knows what happened to Brian. I wonder why the police haven’t charged him with anything or question him again. Innocent people don’t behave like this.
I'm sure they had dogs sniffing the whole area and whatever else to see if that was the case. Sad that this case has not been solved. Glad to see his old GF moving on and happy, but i am sure she still has the hopes that one day it will be solved.
Clint was seen on camera leaving down the escalator though.. So how would he have gone back and disposed of the body? Its almost impossible. On top of that, its a busy bar at closing time, someone would have seen it happen.
Investigators brought in cadaver dogs that would have easily found him. According to all of the shows on ID Discovery, a decomposing body is supposed to be horrific and detectable from a great distance. The dogs would have found him if he somehow ended up behind a wall.
That is one strong woman. To continue at medical school and also be trying to find her boyfriend. I hope she has a wonderful life. She deserves it. Personally I think Brian is deceased. I don't know what happened to him, but I hope he is watching over her and his brother.
After seeing this I further believe he was murdered by someone that drew him into an area of that complex outside the bar right after he re entered. How many people left the bar at 2am? His friends were in that crowd and he supposedly put on a disguise and walked passed them being 6’2”? He would have stood out no matter what he put on.
So glad she is happy. What a traumatic thing to go through. Hope they find out what happened to Brian and if there was foul play - we still want justice.

I feel bad or her. She is still haunted by the event. I am glad she moved on and has a great life but there is a part of her that will always remember he has never been found.
She seems lovely and it's so nice she really moved on. You have to. Concerning Brain himself - I've always said he absolutely must still be on that site. They were able to identify every single person leaving that bar, expect him. That can only mean he's still there. I have a feeling bones will be found there one day.
So now even the woman who loved him has largely put him out of her mind. This isn't unusual, and it's certainly not wrong on her part. It is, though, a melancholy comment on what becomes of all of us aside from the exceedingly rare William Shakespeare or Abraham Lincoln. It reminds me of the scene in the movie TROY in which Achilles' mother tells him that, if he doesn't go to the war, he'll remain an admired Greek warrior, and he'll have children and grandchildren who love him, but, after that, even he'll be forgotten.
She certainly needed to move on but to hear that she's removed from it and I've also read other articles in which she said there's no emotion around it. I think is pretty heartless and cold. It sounds like she really does think that he abandoned her and there's a bit of anger there. But I think that's ridiculous....somebody's who's going to take off from their life is not going to buy tickets to go on vacation.
sunshine91671 It probably sounds heartless and cold because its been more than a decade, and she has learned to compartmentalize his disappearance in order to cope with it and move on in her life. This isn't unique. This is what thousands of families do to handle life while a loved one is missing for years.
She didn't forget him, she just realised that he won't be coming back and had to move on. Her agreeing to do this interview clearly shows that she sill cares, just not to the extent of ruining her own life .
Its said theres a service entrance located relatively close to the only entrance into the bar where he was last seen. Theres also a roof access point on the second level within the Gateway building. The bar relocated some years ago.
Probably killed or abducted on the way home around the Wendy’s restaurant (camera wasn’t working) after slipping out of a back door of the bar to avoid his friends. Search dogs apparently tracked his scent from the alternative bar exit up to the Wendy’s area. Possibly a robbery or drunken fight gone too far. Doubt we’ll ever know.
I just don’t get it though. Disappearing willingly having been at a bar on camera, surrounded by tons of people all night. Where could he go to continuously avoid detection. The only way it’s feasible is if he’d planned it with someone to shelter him somewhere. I think taking his own life is more likely than running away. Especially if he’d just had a big argument with Clint as is speculated. He’d had an awful time with his mother passing and might have been one push away from doing it…… but even then, where’s the body? It’s one crazy case that’s for sure.
Police checked the site right after he went missing when they couldn't find him on the surveillance camera at the front door. The back exit was a clear sight for other buildings surveillance camera & they couldn't see Brian leaving the back door either. Honestly - I think he got lost in the crowd that's how nobody can pick him up on the cameras. Instead of the 2 girls, he met up with some bigger guys with the same height as him & that's why its harder for him to be recognized. He did get into a fight with his friend that night.. its possible he just hung out with strangers the whole night

I’m sorry but maybe it’s just me what if his best friend, Clint was involved in his disappearance? I read somewhere they were giving lie detector tests to everyone but him? Why is that? What can he possibly know about Brian? Brian’s family needs closure.
I think he started a new life. I once saw someone that looked like him. At the time of the encounter I knew nothing of who he was, it was later that I ran across a video here on UA-cam about him. Do I think it was him?? Anything is possible.
I can still see the pain within for sure but glad she’s moved on. I am Brian’s same age this year. I’m baffled by this very much so also. I do have a very bad unexplained vision that he was somehow trafficked that night outside of the state. Then resisted & unfortunately that’s how he went out.
Glad she's moved on with a beautiful family now and with her own practice in Toledo, and she's able to put it behind her, but I'm sure the "needing some answers" will continue to tug at her and won't go away.

If Derek wants to hear what happened, I'm easy to contact. I don't need you to filter the information. It's that easy; Derek needs to be serious and attentive, the story isn't what anyone has ever mentioned. He has to be open minded, not with an attitude as if doing me a favor. Do you hear me boy, don't address me again.
Of course she just so happens to have the most inadvertently confusing use of language at the most critical part in the conversation, so it's just as much of a mystery what she's saying as the mystery itself. She says "when it first happened, like how could somebody leave and how could he do that to me and obviously that's impossible so something horrible must have happened, but now with a lot of distance and a lot of time and now I I mean II think I probably have less of.... it feels like it happened to somebody else." The first time I heard it I interpreted as though she suspects he left and started a new life, but now I think it could go either way. I'm literally 50/50 in reference to this just coming out wrong or if she's insinuating that she thinks he started a new life. How irritating!
She is a doctor. I believe they have their own way of discussing highly emotional situations. They are trained to always keep a certain level of detachment. That is how I interpret it, anyway. Thank you.
I once saw a case of a young woman who went out on a date and surveillance cameras see her out with her date and detectives then track them going into a hotel but she never comes out They continue to check the hotel cameras hours later and nothing. But what they do see is a man coming out with a suit case and it looked as if he was struggling to pull it They looked into it and sure enough he had murdered the young lady and dismembered her body and put her in the suit case I can’t stop to think if with the Brian Shaffer case if they continued to look at surveillance videos hours or even days after
I wonder if Brian came back and explained to her what happened. Would she be able to forgive him? I'm happy that she was able to move on. Although someone like me would neve really be able to move on from something like this.
Got married 3 years after her boyfrined vanished, that's way moving on, and she's also way over it like she said "it feels like it happened to someone else" so I guess she realy believes that he ran off
Something happened to him at the construction site, imo..I think he probably got stuck there for 3 or 4 days and died of dehydration. He had too much going on to just run off like that and he had no enemies to kill him..He was also in a good part of town where people don't just get murdered over a dollar or two. It was an accident..had to be.
This kind of reminds me of the Craig Frear missing person case in New York State. Very haunting, because the victim seems to have a stable, happy life, and then boom: - they have vanished.

Aerophlix Media,......Thanks,...........I spoke to Derek once a few weeks ago. I know what happened to his brother,......but he didn't seem too interested.
This is too heartbreaking. Chances are Brian isn’t alive and probably fell into a river and drowned or entered into an elevator that leads to a hazardous construction site by mistake and it killed him because he was drunk. I hope I’m wrong, but that could be the reason why he was never seen on camera leaving the bar. Usually when someone is missing this long chances aren’t very good in finding them alive...but miracles do happen you know...hopefully and hopefully is the main word here that he’s still out there alive somewhere just waiting to be found.
Sucha stupid theory. He just "fell into the river". Not a chance. First off the Scioto is a hike from the Tuna. Second the river has literally been drained few years back. I think they were involved in drugs. In fact I k ow they were. Im from columbus and was apart of that whole scene back then.

I do agree that investigators shouldn’t have written this off though because this is like the only evidence in this case.
Yes, I was shocked that she got married so quickly, especially considering how horrendous things were for her for the first year.
@@brooklynlandrum4429 3 years is nothing. Not sure why she would do that.

“With a lot of time and distance, it feels like it happened to someone else now”.
Cold world.
Am I the only one who thinks her husband has similar features as that of Brian?
Definitely not. He looks similar.
Yes. When I first saw a family photo of her with her husband I thought maybe she took a picture with Brian's brother for some reason.
They do look similar!! What if it was Brian? Plastic surgery changed! Now that would be one hell of a plot twist!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes ,you are right,he looks similar,I thought that too.
Same thing with Maura Murray’s boyfriends wife, totally looks like Maura, pretty creepy actually
What a crazy case! Hope whoever is responsible is found out some day, or if an accident or runaway we find out about that.

I have a feeling bones will be found there one day.
no, he left that site. police easily ruled out the possibilities of him still being there.
Were there any serial killers in the area?
So if she was the same age as Brian was when he disappeared, she would be 36 or 37 here and she still looks and sounds like she’s 18-22
She really does. Seems like a nice girl. Cute...
Ikr she looks so young still hasn't aged a bit
Lovely woman.
Was Alexis concerned about Clint not being cooperative with investigators?
So now even the woman who loved him has largely put him out of her mind. This isn't unusual, and it's certainly not wrong on her part. It is, though, a melancholy comment on what becomes of all of us aside from the exceedingly rare William Shakespeare or Abraham Lincoln. It reminds me of the scene in the movie TROY in which Achilles' mother tells him that, if he doesn't go to the war, he'll remain an admired Greek warrior, and he'll have children and grandchildren who love him, but, after that, even he'll be forgotten.
brachio1000 u got it
YES more like a Greek tragedy than anything else !!!
If he never left the building, he must be in that construction addition somewhere.
I know it’s still in the back of her head. I’m glad she has a family
what kind of construction was going on at the bar?
I sincerely hope he's not a part of it. You know like somewhere down in the sidewalk or cemented into a wall
Its said theres a service entrance located relatively close to the only entrance into the bar where he was last seen. Theres also a roof access point on the second level within the Gateway building. The bar relocated some years ago.

How tragic. Plus, what the hell happened to him?
Probably killed or abducted on the way home around the Wendy’s restaurant (camera wasn’t working) after slipping out of a back door of the bar to avoid his friends. Search dogs apparently tracked his scent from the alternative bar exit up to the Wendy’s area. Possibly a robbery or drunken fight gone too far.
Doubt we’ll ever know.
But in her fb i saw ZERO photo of Bryan shafter....😑😑
I don't think he ran away, that doesn't make any sense to me. I think he was killed. But by WHO...That is the question.
Re -Visiting this Baffling Case. Thanks for the Human Element in This Update. I Think He Disappeared Willingly. So Very Sorry. 🍁

Thank you.
I once saw a case of a young woman who went out on a date and surveillance cameras see her out with her date and detectives then track them going into a hotel but she never comes out
They continue to check the hotel cameras hours later and nothing. But what they do see is a man coming out with a suit case and it looked as if he was struggling to pull it
They looked into it and sure enough he had murdered the young lady and dismembered her body and put her in the suit case
I can’t stop to think if with the Brian Shaffer case if they continued to look at surveillance videos hours or even days after

Chances are Brian isn’t alive and probably fell into a river and drowned or entered into an elevator that leads to a hazardous construction site by mistake and it killed him because he was drunk.
