I was actually there for the punk and the later movement through the Blitz kids/New Romantic/Goth transition. Remember Souixi was a Punk from the Bromley Contingent and much of the makeup can be traced directly to the beginning of the punk movement. There's a few photos on my Google Plus page (Courtesy of my good friend Derek Dunbar and Six who has a book "Punk is Dead" ) in which you can find all the photos which illustrate the makeup and the style of certain punks like Souixi and Cat Woman Sue who despite not maybe wanting the "Goth' lable were very influential in early Goth as well as punk.
I would have to say that the Vampire started well before the 90's and this can be illustrated with Dave Vanian of the Damned and Bauhaus and as for Industrial I would check out early 80's Berlin and Einstürzenden Neubauten who are almost definitely at the forefront of the Industrial Goth scene again even if they, themselves may not be overenamoured by the title. I think you're right in that there's no clear lines in the early Goth as it transitions seamlessly from punk into what they called Trad Goth but the timeline goes pretty much right off with the jump to the 90's 'Vampire.
Foxiepaws ACAnderson as a theme revolving around the gothic scene I understand and agree with you, but as it's own diverse subgenre , it gained more popularity within the 90s
I discovered your channel thanks to snowy lowther. I'll never thanks her enough for that, I loooove your videos :) I had exactly the same reaction for emo x)
Funeral Bat aww thank you very much I am glad you enjoy the videos! And Snowy is an amazing friend and person! :) haha I think many people share our reaction
In a subculture where female fashion is at the forefront, you are a big inspiration to me! I love goth music, culture, history, etc. But as a young male I've been frustrated because It's so hard to find style inspirations, but now I've found one! Love your music, style, and new hair!
I really like emo subculture and goth subculture and I listen to both and just recently started doing my hair in a trad goth way with kind of death rock/trad/ punk clothing. But I'm not sure which subculture I would consider myself? Any way of knowing because I love both music genres so much!
Wagnerds Clan always be yourself! No need to always identify as one label or A label! Listen to what makes you happy and wear whatever you like:) be yourself
I love how you freaked out on emo🤣! I live in SoCal and around early-mid 2000s Emos are everywhere with their whiny music🤣. Agree with you emo doesn’t belong to goth subculture.
This is the first video I watch of you, you look lovely , I definitely share your reaction . From my experience and what I saw in the french Goth scene the Cyber goth came to light around 2005/2006 I loved the way some people rocked the style but never understood their musical taste !
The New Romantic bit troubles me. Having been around at the time, it wasn't really associated with Goth. Like Gothic Sunflower I thank you for the Emo education!
Darkly Inclined I understand completely why you would feel reluctant to include this as a branch of the goth term. Whilst I was unsure myself at first I can understand completely why this connection was made per say do to a lot of the glam style influence and adaptation of sound used in certain bands. Whilst New Romantic can be blurry within how associated it is. It's like many goth bands we know and grew up from the 80's never truly identified as goth themselves, creating a paradox haha. Glad I can help with emo
Deathrock revival should've been in the mid 2000s lol. I became a goth in the mid 2000s and Deathrock revival was THE rage at the time, and by 2015 I mean... It's still a thing even now in 2018 but nowhere nearly as massive as it was in the mid 2000s.
Gotta admit, I mainly watch these reaction videos to see you guys and girls freak out over the emo thing. Personally, I know a lot of goth people who were emo in their teen years, so I kinda see a sort of connection there. Not saying it's a branch of goth, but to me it's just something that might develop into goth for some people. I liked your reaction there, too. For a video I just watched because of the original you reacted to, I really liked your reaction video. So thumbs up. You earned it.
I was just rewatching this video again and I was glad that you know what emo actually is, such a freaking confused thing. I also really like your hair, it’s the same as mine
Punk and New Romantic were quite important in the development of Gothic people in the 80s, since you usually were involved in those movements before Goth came around.
humanoid I agree and never countered that importance. But as a legit category ( subcategory) of goth, it's different. I am aware it has helped shape and find influence before the title became a thing, but it's very much like proto punk- important influence, but not part of the actual conventions and codes of the goth subculture/scene itself.
New sub here, I love the fact of you doing an explanation and a perspective opinion after analyzing the styles. Argument were concrete and was a very enjoyable reaction as well :) keep the cool stuff, here's my support! and man, I'm a guy but, you're beautiful xD
E. Blakopft thank you very much:) I always find it good to analyse, have evidence to support then conclude:) I'm glad you have enjoyed the video! And cheers!!
Your hair is fucking magical buddy Mine's going like that soon, I'm growing it out and then I'm going for dreadlocks. I doubt I'll suit that kind of hair as much as you though, it's awesome
She added emo because the fashion originally consisted of geeky natural color looks with big glasses (90s and 80s). Later, w the 3rd wave (early 2000s), it absorbed some goth influences and acquired dark clothes, dark makeup, dark hair, skulls etc. The vid is about fashion She explains some other reasons in her vid about it. And ofc, she also did it for some controversy :p
You seem so handsome and cool :DD also, your channel is a pretty nice thingy❤️ I'm glad to see more people my age, especially more guys, seem to dress trad-goth-ier these days
I mean I'm not really a goth. I more lean towards the DIY punk/grunge thrift store raid kinda deal (that's mostly because I can't afford anything) but I do have a strong connection to the culture (my dad was big into it). In the vain of that statement, seeing emo there kinda pissed me off because even as a third party, having to explain the different cultures is really hard nowadays. And I also have to agree with you on the whole industrial thing. When I started my music project, my first EP was a split with Bend Me Break Me Hate Me, I did more industrial stuff and I associated it more with metal/punk/grunge/techno kind of a mix. I never really associated it with goth because it always seemed that it was more of a style similarity than a music similarity. I guess I just kinda grew up around stuff like certain underground speedcore and horrorcore bands like Butchers Harem and Screamer Clauz so that style I always kind of associated more with my music and so industrial was kind of thrown in there but it always seemed kind of like an odd paring with goth culture.
Way Back you should not let the perception of other people put you off how you want to express yourself. Besides, a Gothic professional footballer sounds awesome:)
I have been watching a lot of reaction video's of this and I love yours! and your style. You are so pleasant. I really enjoyed this. Also, just subbed to you. xoxo 🦇 🖤
Its not really about ministry, its more about EBM/dark electro/electro-industrial. Thats what hybridused w goth a got. Thats how you have for example revival/semi-reinventive bands like Sexual Purity, Boy Harsher, NNHMN, SYZYGYX.
The best 'goth' style is 1990 Fields of the Nephilim, hands down - so original and unlike all the vampire stuff. If there was a second is 1987 The Mission (UK) with long hair and paisley shirts. Neither of these were featured in this, yet they are 2 of the biggest traditional bands.
I think vampire style and victorian is the best style, but industrials is nice too!:) I think you have to have good taste and see what suits to you and you can looks fantastic. But sadly many goth and alternative do not have good taste and it spoils the milk. But some have good face and taste and that is look so awsome like that guy in vampire style, industrial. Mniamy!:)))
I love u already, ur reaction was intriguing, honest and just overall great Between emo and goth I really don't know 😭 I love the goth style and vibe but I love the Emo music Anyways u just got a new subscriber 😊 Hope to see more stuff like this And keep up the great work mate CX
Cutie Pie thank you very much for all the nice compliments! Glad you love the videos ( as well as the hair haha) :) It's nice to have people enjoy my stuff!
When I first watched the original video and saw "Emo" on my screen, I nearly sanded a hole into the piece of sheet metal I was sanding 😬 I was so mad, I shouted "nooo" with such angst the two other girls in our studio asked me if I was ok 😂 Also, I'm curious of your opinion on early industrial music such as Ministry's "Twitch" album. I personally believe it's relevant to the goth subculture, but it's always interesting to see what others think.
Ades Sneakers you are half right. You are right about the origin of the name, but I wouldn't say anarchists or fighters. Remember, the punk scene came from proto punk acts like New York dolls and iggy pop.. so when Malcolm mcclaren brought this new sound and ideology to the lower class teens of London, it was seen more as a artistic rebellious movement firstly, then anti monarchy But with the diy attitude, style and music ect it helped start the first stages of goth
Sooooo Emo’s I am neither Emo or goth but I listen to “ Emo” music, My Chemical Romance, Black veil brides , and I listen to Goth music too so I don’t like that they blended them because they are very different

who else thinks this guy LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL??!
I really enjoyed this reaction video. I don't know a lot about emo, so I liked that you explained it a bit. And your hair is ON POINT.
Gothic SoulFlower thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm glad I could educate you a bit on it
+Nazzy TheCreepyKitten: Hi there! I see you. :D

Jess in king yes it is:) Marian
Cute goth guy. ;)
Came for the video. Stayed for the hair.
Thanks for reacting to my video. Appreciate the feedback!
do you give any reasoning as to why you included emo? I'm sure you didn't do it arbitrarily.
I reacted the same to emo... :')

Tbh tho Goths music has a darkwave nice vibe while i am drinking coffee in the morning🖤
I think we can all agree on the emo reaction.. lol

Enjoyed the reactions and wonder why there are not more male goths with channels to balance the pheromones.
.
oh my goodness gracious i didn't know trad goth ppl still exist! so happy!
One, I agree with everything you said in this video. Two, I absolutely adore your style, but especially your hair, and felt the need to tell you that.
PaganBibliophile13 thank you very much:)
Can you please do a hair tutorial????? Ive been dying to add volume like yours to my hair but have failed everytime.
Pablo Hernandez I have done a tutorial on trad hair for men :)

Liisa had every right to include that in the video, but at the same time it's not exactly a "Goth style".
So thrilled I found this loveliness.
Sweeny : "Fuck you Black Parade!"

Aw, glad this video was in my recommendations. I love finding goth youtubers, you kinda remind me of a young Jim Reid ;).
I love the alternative style I wish I had more idea of it
She added emo because the fashion originally consisted of geeky natural color looks with big glasses (90s and 80s). Later, w the 3rd wave (early 2000s), it absorbed some goth influences and acquired dark clothes, dark makeup, dark hair, skulls etc.

I agree with you on the trad goth and I wouldn't expect a bandanna or cowboy boots. I actually did a reaction video too and said the same.
Midnight Owl I saw your reaction to this as well! Great video!
You seem so handsome and cool :DD also, your channel is a pretty nice thingy❤️ I'm glad to see more people my age, especially more guys, seem to dress trad-goth-ier these days

You should have replied to them with "Im not okay, I promise"
Yess i saw emo and i was like noooooooo
my opinion on punk- punk was a lable given by torie media to anarchists and fighters of the system
Ades Sneakers you are half right. You are right about the origin of the name, but I wouldn't say anarchists or fighters.

tbh, it wouldve been FAR better if there wouldve been a video on emo style (even though you cant say much about emo style but eh) and they wouldve put goth in the beginning of it, just like they put punk as "the history" of goth.
john miles I would say to put Goth at the beginning of a style video of emo would be historical and factually wrong as the first wave of emo had nothing to do with Goth culture ( never had) it started in New York in the 1980's during the hard core punk underground scene, second wave was seen more stuff like dashboard confidential and deathcab for cutie. Third wave which we all know as ( and what the style in this video is based on) was adapted from skater fashion and acts such as mcr who used horror imagery but was never Goth.
Sweeney DeVille nah, I didnt say it was correct but it wouldv'e made... MORE sense.
i know emo hasn't much to do with goth but it would've at least made more sense than the way it is right now.
