Even as a fan of the show who's waiting for season 5 and watch a whole bunch of playthroughs I still like his review it reminds me of the angry video game nerd
This is what you get when a board game is designed by someone who doesn't know anything about board games since they were 6 years old. At least they didn't use a spinner.
Maybe people who have popular video games/youtube series/podcasts etc. that want to make a board game for them should oh I don't know... HIRE A BOARD GAME DESIGNER.
I haven't watched the show but I saw the Kickstarter and it seemed like they actually put effort into it. Good-looking page and game,, cooperative... And then I read the rules. I was out at "roll and move". People, if you are ever unsure about backing a Kickstarter, READ THE RULES.
This is such a shame! I personally like the show and the components looked really good, but it's just throwing dice :( Thanks for buying it Tom, so I won't have to haha
I really do wish there was more to this game, however. I understand that the ETN Board Game wouldn't be for everyone. Especially, since there are some things I wished Joey and the ETN team would change. For example, the INSTRUCTIONS ARE LONG AND CONFUSING. Some pieces did not leave up to us (ETN Fans) standards. Cos we kinda expected more from this game but almost half of the community thinks this game is trash. I for one really love the game, even with all the cons that come in this set.
Another PSA with Tom Vasel. Honestly I really hope the people who are fans of this series understand that you are standing up for them. They deserve a better game and not a money grab.
the whole show is far better than the game. i mean sure the pieces are neat but the game itself sucks. the only form of movement, defeat, or basically anything else is the dice… the show is really good but the board game is not good
I'll be honest, as a fan of this show, I don't wanna play this game too much, maybe for fun with a few friends, then keep it away for months. The only reason I'd keep it is the artwork. Maybe, if they plan on making another one, they can make it an actual challenge rather than just dice choosing for you. That was what I thought was gonna happen because of the trailer and it wasn't.
Thank you Tom! I’ve been wondering why no one had reviewed this garbage. I had never heard of the show and thought the game looked interesting and really pretty. Wow what a waste of $75. I ended up selling it to Half Priced Books. I feel sorry for the next person who buys it. I thought it was weird how the only thing online was unboxing videos but no gameplay or reviews. What’s really funny is on boardgamegeek there are lots of 10 ratings from rando’s that have no other activity. I’m now a lot more careful when backing games on Kickstarter.
IMPORTANT! Hey DT, you put up the wrong credits for this game. We don't want the stink of this garbage to land on any innocent game creators. Please fix it, thanks. [Edit: They fixed it.] The *actual* creators of this thing were Joey Graceffa (the guy from the show and who claims to be "passionate" about boardgames) and the show's director who got together and churned this mess out. If the show has anything to do with problem-solving, puzzle-solving, deduction, or just interesting decisions or ideas at all, then I can only assume Graceffa and the director have nothing to do with the writing of the show and have no personal ability in or awareness of these areas at all. It's like Richard Dean Anderson and the Director of MacIver get together to create a passion project which ends up being a decisionless roll-and-move where no one makes anything or does any creative problem-solving, and your dreams die just a little inside you.
Update: They took the erroneous credits out. Thanks guys! It's good to see people on YT taking enough pride in their work to fix this kind of thing. I have seen worse errors on other channels, but they just leave them there forever. Once a video is published, they never give it a second thought. It's good to know we can count on Dice Tower to have some class.
Making a board game and writing a script are different, he’s made many series and written them. You’re making him seem like a bad person? I have the game and u won’t lie it’s not the greatest but it is his first board game, if he makes another then he can improve!!!! Idk- I don’t think reviews need to be so aggressive😅
@burntthelegendarytaco6196 , You are making a category error. I said the game is garbage. Please tell me what I said about him being a good or bad person. You make garbage every day that other people have to pick up and take away. These other people work with garbage all day. Are you or them "bad people?" Not being able to differentiate between criticism and personal attack is one of the major problems of our current culture. I am allowed to make an honest and harsh critique of what someone has presented to the market without saying anything about the character of the person or me being accused of being a bad person myself. There is a difference between the quality of a product and the moral character of the person who produced it. You are the one presuming to enter into the moral realm, not me. As far as it being his first game, he would get some grace from that if it felt like a serious attempt. Even having never touched a game before, you'd think someone who made creative and problem-solving, story-based entertainment would be able to produce some story or problem solving in the simplest form of board game possible.
Don't forget - with more dice rolls and less thought. At least with Clue you are kind of deducing SOMETHING. This sounds like they decided to cut that part out...
@@jameswoodard4304 oh, you have NO idea how unfair the show’s “format” is. It works there because their not playing for any kind of money, allowing them to build storyline rather than be another survivor. It doesn’t work here… because it’s just the game itself.
I saw the board and immediately thought...this is going to be just a fancy clue/cluedo. And it is WORSE than that. SCARY to make a game that it worse than that. It's a shame that the nice artwork is tied to this game.
Jeez, I've been designing a game for over a year now that is strikingly similar to this, unbeknownst to me. There are some better design choices - no roll to move, higher game interactivity, mitigation, and some decision making - but a very similar core. This review is making me seriously re-think the entire structure of the game now.
We'll, one of the main complaints is that there is no real decision in this game, so it sounds like yours is one-up over this at least in that. I think a take-away is also if you have something like the deathmatch, make it both make sense why it's in the game and have consequences that matter. The concept of going around a house to find clues to unlock the final boss isn't bad - it's not particularly new either - but make sure it feels like you're finding clues, and so on.
To add insult to injury on this one, the KS creator jumped ship the second the games got shipped so if you had missing/damaged components...oh well on you. Misrepresented the look of the dice and did not come through on providing all the stretch goals. "Joey" is officially on my never back list now. Total POS!
Agree with Tom with this one. I dont know the show but because of this game I wont even try to watch it. This game should have been made to attract new fans for the show but it did the opposite.
I've seen you hate games before but this was absolutely disgust for a game had me laughing all the way through I almost Kick started this game still would get it at the 5.00 bin for my not so game group who needs an easy game to play without much effort and learning how to play I'm a big fan of horror and or scary board games and Tom usually doesn't show much love for them but it looks like this one is well deserved it's amazing how so many other good games on Kickstarter never see the time of day but garbage like this gets made

While this is a really bad game it sounds like it's "playable" and has okay components. So this is better than some Tom has reviewed. I'll be interested to see if this is a 2 or a 3 in Week in Review. Throwing the hammer is not as bad as the trash can or driving a car over it.
