TiNRS’s Next Tuesday: it’s not a conventional sequencer, it’s a procedural sequencer. What this seems to mean in practice is that you have fifteen available algorithms, each of which you can tweak in more than a thousand ways (there are at least thirty discrete settings on each of the x and y knobs) even before you start varying the density of notes in the pattern, which can be of one, two, four or eight bars. What you cannot do is actually determine for yourself what the notes will be- but there are sweet spots everywhere, some of which you can sometimes return to. The result is that NT is rather less frustrating than it is engaging- and I haven’t yet paddled around in more than a couple of the algorithms. Suitably sparse and slow, this may even lend itself to ambient, and I’ll certainly be trying that in due course.
