Former Portland Trailblazer, Antonio Harvey, explains why you don't piss off Arvydas Sabonis. Filmed July 12, 2016 live from Dante's in Portland, Oregon.
Who's here after Sheed told the same story on his podcast ? I love Sheed and he's definitely not the one you want to make mad. But Sabonis was a beast too 😂
Yes, Wallace should have been a top 5 power forward with his inside/outside game, but couldn't keep it together mentally. The early 2000's version of Draymond. No doubt in my mind he cost the Blazers a championship that year. The league didn't want to see these guys in the finals with Sheed gettting a technical every 5 minutes. Whining about getting his tooth chipped, Brian Grant had his knocked out in game and kept playing.
I remember Sabonis running the court from basket to basket, to punch Nakic because this guy has been rude with one of Sabas best friends in the team. That game was the European Cup Final, the greatest game in Europe. Zalgiris vs Cibona, Sabonis vs Petrovic. Sabonis was a nightmare for his rivals, in all the ways you can imagine. Nightmare in sports terms, because he was unstoppable, and nightmare in...any term, because he had a quick transition to fight-mode if you tried to "bully" him or his teammates. And in that time, yugoslavians players were...a little bit bullies. But with Arvydas...they learned to be quiet around him. I mean, one of the Cibona's bench players grabbed a pair of scissors, fearing for his life. Old Sabas probably had more patient, and less fire in his heart. At the end of the day, winning with his friends in the team of his life vs the hateful Drazen, was much more important to him that some random game in Los Ángeles playing for Portland. But if Rasheed hadn't stopped yelling at him..things would've ended badly.
Towel thrown in Sabonis's face! I loved that team what a great cast of characters Sheed, Pip, Kemp, Sabonis, Schrempf, Wells, Kerr! Steve Kerr said it was the most fun he had in the NBA! What could have been if they won that game 7!
@@rtaparauskas I think rasheed crazy enough to actually fight sabonis and u never know , but I think sheed knew win or lose he gonna be walking away with a lot of damage.
Rasheed Wallace is one of my favorite players of that era but there’s just certain dudes these city guys think they’d be able to handle because of the color of their skin. They wouldn’t. Soviet citizens grew up harder than anyone in any American ghetto. Not to mention Sabonis was “built like a tree.”
@@overratedgm5713 drawing fouls helps your team. I don’t like that aspect of the European game but the US has bought into it wholesale. There’s this guy named Lebron James. Built like Karl Malone but was jumping like MJ (at one time at least) Well this guy, you could say is built like a tree as well and he LOVES to flop.
People don’t understand that dudes that big, carrying a national basketball team from their teen years are going to break down by the time they are in their 30s, yet those that played with or against sabonis are telling these people how good he was and how physical he was. Shaq was built for long career, sabonis was playing pro basketball as a teenager. Shaq played his age group til he went pro. Sabonis wasn’t allowed to come to America during the Cold War. The NBA fans were robbed of special player. We saw him at the end of his career and he was legit in those last years

yep :))) Sabonis was so pissed of having to deal with Shaq.. so he really didnt need extra taunting from Sheed...

@@digenesakritas1107 Steve smith too
Funny to imagine Rasheed Wallace pissing his pants scared to get murdered by Arvydas in the damn locker room😂😂
Look at Sabas videos when he was 20-25, i would bet he would kill Sheed. When he was in nba he was already matured big guy

If he was built like a tree, why did he flop so much?

@@overratedgm5713he didn't flop, Sabs came to the NBA at the end of the career and full of injuries. Should be easy to understand
Antonio Harvey is 2.11m, and a huge man like him still didn't wanna deal with a raging Arvydas Sabonis
Rasheed Wallace
Hes talking about Rasheed
