Hi Luke. I am a Lepster for 10+ years. To briefly explain how much this podcast has benefited me, I got my current job, which I’ve been working at for about 7 years, thanks to this podcast. I passed the English exam I needed to clear to get this job because of you. So, I must say, I owe you a lot. Besides that, over this long period of time, I’ve learned so much from here that I can’t even put into words the value you’ve added to my life.

If you mean that you are struggling with speaking, I mean if you kind of trying to get over speaking barrier, what I might say, it will become suddenly. You don't have to force yourself to speak in English, you just have to watch as much as possible stuff that you can understand. I mean you have to watch a lot, I mean a lot. Then your mind will acquire the language, and you will have this aha moment, when you kind of get the language. You will have some phrases in your head popping up, then you will be glad to speak to yourself when you're alone, and almost immediately you will become an English speaker. Not literally immediately, I mean it will be much faster than the whole English learning journey. I learned the language almost 3 years. And this message is the result of my speaking ability. It is not good but it is not bad, I guess. @@yelizyilmaz1247

Hi Luke. I discovered your podcast in November 2024, so I’m a new listener. I’ve made immense progress in English since then. I can understand much more, and I also feel more confident when I speak or write. Listening to your podcast really helps me with remembering words, phrases and grammar rules. I really like learning this way because it’s effortless and entertaining. Thank you very much.

Hello, Luke. I have been listening to your podcast for more than 10 years. You are a role model for me. I am an English teacher, so I am often afraid to sound weird or say something that has another or double meaning. And while listening to you, I pay attention to detail, e.g., if you say "detail" or "details". If you use them both, I feel comfortable doing it too. Another example. I've googled recently "connected with or to" and found out that "to" is more about physical connection, while "with" is about relationship. And I started saying "connected with Christmas", until I've heard "connected to" from you in a similar context. That's why such examples of bizarre English as "send in all directions" (I could say something like that) are very helpful.
I am also very grateful for different resources and tools that you recommend, such as Youglish, collocation dictionaries or chat GPT. And I have a question: have you noticed any errors that AI makes or doesn't recognise in English, or are its corrections and suggestions trustworthy?
And one more specific question: in the Russian language, we have a construction with double negatives to stress a positive meaning. "Я не могу не прийти" (I can not not come = I must be there.) Is there anything like that in English? Or should I say "I must be there"?
By the way, I have learned modals thanks to you: now I say "It might be true" instead of "Maybe, it is true", the phrase "be supposed to", I know some differences between BrE and AmE, and can explain the use of s/z in verbs.
Thank you for your work! It's great that your podcast has an audio version because UA-cam is currently being blocked in Russia, and vpn helps not always. Besides, audio is more convenient during a walk or a run.

Hi Luke! My name is Momo. I'm from Japan! I have been learning English more than 10 years, and I started listening to your podcast this summer. Now, it is even my comfort podcast.
Here are the answers to your questions!
Q1. Your podcast has greatly helped me to improve my English speaking skills. I believe it helped me go from the intermediate plateau to the upper-intermediate level. Especially, I became better at telling stories, like what happened in my life or a synopsis of a movie I watched. Listening to your podcast helped me learn how to use tenses correctly and how to describe movements and changes, which are necessary to tell intricate stories. My vocabulary has increased as well.
Q2. I would say it is important to keep listening to the podcast constantly without any pressure to learn something, but rather enjoy Luke's talk. I believe it's not necessary to memorise every new word that appears in the episode. Having said that, I always try to use at least one word or phrase that I learned from the episode when I speak to my friends in English or talk to myself.
★My favourite thing to do is to share jokes from the "dissecting frogs" episodes with my friends. I really find it enjoyable.
Have a fantastic New Year, Luke!

❤️I've been a ninja LEPster for more than 4 years now so I couldn't miss this opportunity to say thanks.
When I just started to listen to Luke's English podcast in 2020 I binged on it for several hours a day during months choosing episodes from the infinite archive.
    During this time I've:
Discovered my favourite British accent ever which is the scouse one. Now I desperately want to visit Liverpool.
Learned a lot about British culture.
Learned to understand jokes in English.
"Met" a person who makes me feel incredibly good whenever I hear him, Paul Taylor obviously.
Got to the point where I can listen to audiobooks, podcasts and other content in English on a higher speed. It's not that I do it often but I'm able to.
Like, thanks for making my English learning so enjoyable! Lots of love❤️

    Hi Luke.
I have been listening to your podcast for about a year now and it is part of my daily routine.
I listen to it when I wake up in the morning , doing my exercises, instead of music.
I listen to it at the gym.
Very often the video works as ''white noise'' in my room.
I started learning English when I was approaching 50, and my move to England because of the war influenced this.
Now I can boast that I understand 90 percent of what you say, although I still do not understand many of the locals. Your pronunciation and voice are impeccable.
I live in Solihull and many people here have an accent I can hardly understand.
    Thank you for your work.
You really make my life easier in a foreign land.

    Hello Luke and all listeners,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks a million once again for the new episode and all your great effort. I started following your podcasts from episode 906, but I’ve gone back and reviewed up to episode 890. If you ever stop publishing your podcasts, I’ve got a two-year stockpile! :)
I really enjoy listening to your podcasts. First, they’re not boring, and secondly, they’re long enough to provide good and efficient listening practice. Occasionally, I listen to them in two parts because I fall asleep if it’s too late.
    1. LEP keeps me up to date while living in a non-English-speaking country.
On the other hand, I’m learning new words, phrases, and idioms. I also use other applications to practice speaking.
    2. I can say I completely understand what you’re saying, except when you’re joking around with your friends. These parts are published in transcripts, but I often skip them because it’s not easy to download and read them on a mobile device. Maybe it would be beneficial if you included some written formats, like short stories.
Another thing is studying with songs. I have great difficulty understanding lyrics. Maybe you’ve already published something about this, but as a new listener, I haven’t seen it yet.
Thanks again, and I wish you a successful and wonderful New Year!

Hello, Luke! I'm writing to you from Spain and I want to say that your podcast ia an authentical miracle for learning English. Your channel helped me to improve my pronunciation ( because I like to repeat every word after you ) and my oral comprehension. I also got some new vocabulary, not only in english but in French as well.
Some recommendations I could give are:
    1) to repeat phrases after Luke, this helps you to improve the pronunciation and understand better the meaning.
    2) trying to understand each word and to notice how the words are linked ( how one word turns into another one ) without subtitles.
    3) noticing and memorising the structure of phrases can help to make better your grammar.
And that's all) Thank you so much! Carry on making podcasts and have a very good Christmas🎉

I like your podcast a lot, especially rambling episodes. They help me understand how the real language is working. I watch how you try to find exact words to explain something, how you construct ideas. If you make a mistake, I am attentive to hear how you correct yourself, change the sentence. It's a great experience. I learn a lot from these episodes. I mimic the intonation of yours and often use your ideas for my lessons with students. You are the best podcast teacher for me! I wouldn't like you to talk only about grammar or vocabulary in your podcasts, it seems boring. But when you invite guests, read short stories, record rambling, it is what makes your podcast unique and educational. You are different all the time and it is super! Thank you for your work!

Hello Luke happy new year 2025!! Your podcast is like a "library", but an audio-video library.
Thank you so much Luke, for all the good job that you do. I have to say that I'm a new listener, I discovered Luke's English Podcast this year, specifically on July 4 2024, because UA-cam suggests it me after been watching a video of Hadar Shemesh, whose UA-cam channel I follow years ago. Well, this is going to be a long-long comment, but you asked so here we go:
    1. How has my English improved with this podcast?
Well, first of all, I needed time to organize my thoughts and be able to respond this question. I have been learning English for years, more American English with a Californian neutral accent, but after feeling stuck for a while and lose the love for English, this year I returned and I have been more active on learning, watching on UA-cam different English teachers... Because even when I don't wanna talk with a different accent, I realized that was necessary immersed myself on English in a way of being able to understand others accents to improve my listening skills and expand my vocabulary.
Now to LEP, my first video ever was number 887 Walk & Talk: Health & Diet, I really like that episode, I'm felt like I was really walking around Paris, and at the same time practice my English listening skills. Understand you was very easy most of the time.
One of the moments that I can say I felt like I achieve something without planning it, was when I realized that I can understand Kate Billington without subtitles.
And a recent milestone was being able to listen to LEP on a Podcast App, the old audio episodes that don't have any video. In the past I tried to listen to some English audio podcast about different topics, but I didn't regularly because I didn't feel confident if I can't follow all the conversation, and because of that I had feeling so closed about the idea of listen a LEP episode without video, but at the end I try and I realized that I've been able to understand it, because you explain the topics at the beginning of the episode, and also explain in the middle and at the end, so in this way I have context to follow all the conversation.
Thank you so much Luke for improved my listening English skills. I mean, right now I'm able to understand more topics in English thanks to the LEP episodes.
    2. Can I give any recommendations for how to improve the English with this podcast?
I have to say that a good strategy is listening for second and a third time each episode but between a space of time, I did that so many times like for instinct and then I realized that you recommended that too, so yeah, repetition is highly recommend. E.g. The first time I used to watch the UA-cam episodes with subtitles to catch the new vocabulary, but then the second or third time I only listened to it, because the majority of the time I'm doing something else.
    Some of my favorite episodes:
    1. Walks and talks.
    2. Rambling Episodes.
    3. Amber and Paul are on the podcast.
    4. Kate Billington.
    5. Luke playing Guitar and singing.
    6. James’s music.
    7. Diplomatic interview.
    8. The Beatles.
    9. Louvre Museum.
    10. Luke with Wife, Daughter and little Son.
    11. The family's anecdotes, e.g. been confused with Moby.
    12. Long-long episodes.
    13. Funny Signs.
I think that the key of LEP is your humor, because when you say something funny or hilarious or even ironic or whatever, this makes me laugh and this is a good way to catch my attention and generated an emotion, making that my brain remembers more in the future.
Some of my favorite jokes and funny moments:
    1. The skeletons... I'm one of the skeletons at the end of each long episode lol.
    2. The library joke - 🤫 oh sorry... fish and chips, please 😹
    3. When Luke is trying to explain something and explain and explain and sometimes get stuck... A few moments later...
    4. Luke talking to LP premium subscribers... That don't watch the episodes.
The only regret that I have about LEP is didn’t find it years ago, but is Ok, the good news is that I have a long long variety of videos and audios still for discovery on the archive of old episodes.
Thank you Luke for make myself to write this long comment (even with grammatical errors) you are a good English teacher. You teach in a funny way, that is good to engage the audience.
Finally, I hope that you find the courage to finish editing the Walk and Talk London and the medieval museum with Amber and Paul. Congratulations to the Diplomatic band.
By the way… why are you still using a Hotmail account?...
After this long long comment, it's time to say goodbye bye bye bye...

Hello, Luke. Thank you for the episode and Merry Christmas!
Answering your questions, I find your podcast almost flawless and perfect and wish there were similar podcasts for German and Italian, the languages I'm trying to learn... I like the way you explain the meaning of words and phrases as you go, I like the topics you choose, your humour and personal touch.
I found especially useful the episode (Bits and Bobs) where you answer listeners' questions about vocabulary and some grammar. For me, as a teacher of English myself, it's very important to be updated on how the language is used as well as on the British culture, and your podcast is a treasure trove in this respect. So thank you so much!
By the way, you actually answered the question I'd had in my head for a long time - why do British singers sing with an American accent? Quite accidentally I came across this episode on your podcast and was absolutely happy to hear your opinion.
I've definitely improved my listening skills (now I have more confidence watching interviews and films in English), built up my vocabulary, discovered lots of stuff about the British culture (I've watched This is Spinal Tap and the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movies) and even wanted to read the Gentleman in Moscow book, but it's not available here.
As a teacher, I recommend your podcast to my pre-intermediate students and above. The pre-intermediate students prefer your short stories, of course... As for me , I just like it all - your rambling, conversations with family and friends, stories, jokes and all that jazz (if I may say so).
I wish I could get more purely linguistic things (some vocabulary and the nuances in use of some phrases and grammar), but I guess you provide it in your premium subscription. I just must get one.
Luke, thank you so much again for everything you do on your podcast, for being such a cool person and for helping me, apart from 'keeping my English fit', get through some tough periods of my life and escape from the harsh reality. Keep it up, please, and lots of best wishes to you and your fantastic family.

Hi Luke from @LukesEnglishPodcast ! I wish to thank you for your immense work. While listening to this rambling episode I've got an idea what impact it has on me and what actually I could compare it to telephoning a native speaker who is chatting w/o a break. That is a real opportunity to be a silent partner of this "telephone conversation". I do like your episodes with different smart guests who kindly shared their unique knowledge or experience (like one on booger monster or about job hunting with a woman-traveller who wrote a book on job hunting or with your former collegue living in Japan if I am correct). That is super cool, that you involve those different speakers. I wish your inspiration to continue your podcast in the future. Merry Christmas and lovely holidays!🎉

I prefer your podcast for the best way of learning English through attentive listening. It is well pronounced and clear to listen to the beginners and those at the advanced levels. For the coming new year, I expect attention-grasping history podcasts for English learners. Eventually, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your beloved family. Keep up with it; I will be in touch. Thanks.

Recently, I have been only watching short videos, but I like to hear your long audios while cooking or doing something that doesn't require my total attention and my sight at the screen. It also helps me sleep at the middle of the night when I cannot sleep 😅, your voice is smooth to make me sleep, too, but your voice with no guests. I love that you explain vocabulary and grammar.

    Dear Luke,
It's been about three years since I discovered your channel on UA-cam. Since then, I listen to you regularly, because what you bring me the most is the pleasure of getting my ear used to listening to a native English speaker who speaks this language very clearly. Which is not the case for many English speakers. Except perhaps, in your case, when you talk to one or more guests. But what I love the most are your short stories. Especially your explanations with your own words when you take up the original text, which then becomes very clear. I also love the explanations of vocabulary taken from the story. I also love your enthusiasm and your love of transmitting your knowledge of the English language to foreigners. We can feel that you love what you do, with a consistency over time that is beyond me.
One more thing, I loved your episode on artificial intelligence. You have brought me a very important awareness about what is happening to us, human beings. A highly disturbing subject.
Thank you again, dear Luke, continue to be what you are, do not change anything.
    With all my friendship:

Dear Luke, thank you for this opportunity to express my gratitude for all that you do for English learners ❤
Luke's UA-cam channel has been an invaluable resource while I was preparing for the IELTS. My main concern was the speaking part and my dream was to get at least a 6.5.
I watched Luke's videos almost every day, trying to memorize his pronunciation and speech patterns. The themed episodes, such as those on "health" and "healthy eating", were very helpful. I prepared for the IELTS for about a year, using this UA-cam channel as one of my sources of preparation, and my result was 7.5 overall and 6.5 for speaking.
Once again, thanks a lot to Luke for his invaluable help and very interesting podcasts I continue watching despite of already passed exam 😅

    Hi Luke!
    1) I don't really know how my English is improving thanks to your podcast since I'm not particularly concerned about my level but I certainly learn quite a lot from it. However, what keeps me listening to your content is the less academic part of it like jokes, stories and interesting conversations with your guests. And this matches perfectly with my second point 👇
    2) The episodes that enjoy the most are those in which you approach a topic from scratch and try to describe it in detail, either by your own or with the help of a guest who is into it. Episodes based on anecdotes are always pleasant to listen to as well. Perhaps that kind of episodes are the ones that help me in a more significant manner, as they involve knowing more vocabulary in a variety of topics. So, imo , the more of them you release, the better.
Merry Xmas and happy new year for you and your family and friends 🇪🇦🤝🇬🇧

The native teacher at my school understands me better than before too. I love the short story episode so much. I can improve my understanding of English in a short period.
