      gosh you people are dumb or maybe just uninformed. the force skips generations. hard times make strong midi-chlorians, soft times make weak midi-chlorians. If your upbringing was tough, you're probably a strong user of the force, which means you're able to provide a softer upbringing for your son, so your son won't grow up to be a tough guy nor will he feel the need to develop his force skills. your son is probably a loser, so his daughter will have a tougher upbringing, meaning she is more open to the force.

    The "ancient sith dagger" macguffin with the 30-year-old deathstar wreckage stencil carved out of it is still one of my favorite elements of bad writing in the whole series. It proves two things:
    1. Never get the obvious cocaine-addict Chris Terrio to co-write your movies, ever.
    2. Never get in a room, or vehicle with someone who thought The Rise of Skywalker was a good movie. They have the capacity to kill without remorse.

    My favorite part was when Chewie was sitting there mourning the loss of one of his closest friends and the guy from Lost/Lord of the Rings comes by and taps him on the shoulder to tell him to come help. Yeah lets not let Chewie be sad for more than 10 seconds, why would we want to emotionally resonate with someone we have come to love. Oh but he gets a medal so its all okay, good call JJ.
    On a slight side note, Chewie watched his best fried die (Han), watched his best friends relationship fall apart (Han and Leia), watched his nephew (Kylo, who he helped raise) turn to evil, watched his nephew kill his best friend, had his other friend all but ignore him (Luke), semi watched his nephew kill his good friend Luke, and lost his other good friend Leia. All that happened over the course of a few years, how sad and traumatic is that, why not have Lando come by and mourn with Chewie before they both agree they must continue to fight for their friends they have lost? That would make so much sense.

    • @christian11111
      @christian11111 3 роки тому +3

      @Gem Tadu So two things, one, "Didn't that happen?". No it didn't happen, Chewie was on screen mourning for 10 seconds at most (I timed it, it may have been 9 seconds). It was a good scene, very powerful and heartfelt. The next scene of Chewie has Lord of the Rings guy tap him on the shoulder and say, "come on buddy we need you". Chewie begrudgingly nods and gets up. This isn't a terrible scene, however 10 seconds of mourning isn't much, and why have a random guy push Chewie to help when we had Lando right there. He is introduced just before this as an encouragement to Poe, why could he not be that for Chewie since they both have lost long time friends. Or at least make it Finn or Poe, we literally have seen Lord of the Rings guy for a few minutes in the movie, now he is telling Chewie to get up and stop moping, that just doesn't line up as far as good/impactful story telling. That is hurry up and move on because we have to cram a lot in here story telling. As far as Lando and Chewie in the Millennium Falcon, your right they do end up there but we don't see any interactions between them, they just appear on screen in it with a bunch of other ships. The moment you describe occurs offscreen, I can assume they had some bonding over the death of their friends but if I don't see it how can I emotionally resonate with it.
      Second thing, yes Chewie is old, he was around 230 I think in age is what I read before. Just because he is old does that make him not emotionally attached to those he loves and befriends? No, I mourn the death of my dogs, I don't just say, well they were going to die before me, so be it, I better just go get another one. I mean Han and Chewie spent nearly 50 years together, that is a long time, that is a best friend, thats a brother, and now his wife just died, probably the only human women who ever showed him compassion, the only thing that still remains of his dead best friend, the mother of the nephew he helped raise and loved, and your telling me he doesn't or shouldn't mourn because he has lived 200 years. That is a very simplified way of looking at relationships. I have heard people compare Chewies relationship to a dog, however that misses that fact that Chewie is entirely sentient, and can vocally share his emotions, wants, and needs. He is not a dog who is simple minded, he has emotions that are driven by true intellect not instinct, he is a person.
      Maybe I should have said this first, my original comment was not made as a, I would make this movie better, it was to sarcastically point out that the one moment we as the audience could have emotionally resonated with a character they only gave us 10 seconds of it, and then we are abruptly pulled out of it by a random side character saying, hey get up we need your help. I didn't like it, I thought it weakened what could have been a strong moment of the film and I could see it being done better. However I totally understand and accept if you have a differing opinion, thanks for the conversation.

    • @christian11111
      @christian11111 3 роки тому +1

      @Gem Tadu haha my apologies man, I thought your comment was meant as a total disagreement to what I was saying happened. So your not wrong that they do end up in the falcon together, however it is after the mourning sequence I am referring to. It is when all the ships show up, the falcon is leading them and it’s Chewie and lando together flying the falcon. They have a few more brief scenes together in the falcon during the final battle, maybe 1 minutes worth. After the final battle that’s the last we see of the two together. So again your not wrong they are together in the falcon, but they get together off screen and appear together all of a sudden. So that’s why I disagreed with what you were saying. I didn’t mean to be a jerk I just took your comment incorrectly, sorry about that.

      @@bruhmieter5688 yeah, except again, he "was" snoke, snoke directly comments on the strength of their connection, comments that he, Snoke(Palpatine) was responsible for the connection, and even points out its uniqueness. But you're saying even though Palpatine knew all that he still was "skeptical"? More like the force Dyad didnt exist until they made it up for the last movie, and forgot that Palpatine should already be aware of it based on their own explanation in the previous and current film about how the Dyad was established, which as it specifically mentions, is due to Snoke, who Palpatine says he "was Snoke", meaning he should know. Sorry, but the JJ script for TRoS is confirmed to have been a last minute rewrite for the last film after they removed the original director, Ian McDermit was not contacted in any way shape or form to reprise the role of Palpatine until 3 months after JJ Abrams was put back in charge. They never, at any point, planned the trilogy, and never planned on adding Palpatine back in. It was an afterthought as they were scrambling to come up with something, and it fits so terribly in the trilogy because of plot points like the Dyad that have no connection to the wider Lore, and are even inconsistently explained within the film, and of wait, they don't explain it in the film, you'd have to go buy the novelization. Another confirmation that they didnt properly think abou their plot points and had to recon aspects of TLJ.
      Edit: the link to the interview with Ian that confirms he was not contacted to reprise the role before JJ was put in charge of Episode 9: ua-cam.com/video/dLP6BKZfx6Q/v-deo.html
      Here is a link to the draft of Duel of the Fates, where Palpatine was not part of the story, further evidence that Palpatine was not part of the trilogy's story from the beginning, or before JJ Abrams was given control of episode 9: www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/f5tb40/colin_trevorrows_star_wars_ep_9_duel_of_the_fates/?

      @LostInTranslation? I’m sorry but no, JJ didn’t. Not in the slightest. It’s been confirmed by the people who made the trilogy. Even Daisy Ridley said so recently. To actually work on a overarching story, Abrams would have had to jettison his beloved “mystery boxes” but he has neither the talent nor drive to do so. Besides, Abrams was a producer of the last Jedi, it’s right in the credits after Ruin Johnson, so he had input into the film, just like Gary Kurtz had in the original trilogy. Abrams had not the slightest idea about the characters and story, leaving Ruin Johnson to his own designs. All one has to do is take a non-biased look at Abrams’ CV to realize that he is not a very good creator. A good producer, sure. Can he make stunning visuals, sure. But write and direct a coherent story, nope. Just look at his work on Star Trek.

      George Lucas certainly didn’t have everything planned out ahead of time when he made the original trilogy. In fact, I think he and many of his fans overstate how much he planned it out ahead of time. He got lucky with some things. Getting lucky once isn’t a good excuse for making the same mistake again.
      It’s also a much more difficult task when you’re doing sequels that need to stay consistent with canon from 6 movies and a lot of animated series, books, and comics. This is why Disney needed a person to run the show, create an outline, and approve/disapprove of anything that could change cannon.

    So this is a SPOILER kinda
    So in RoS, Finn tells Rey he has something to tell her and then he never does, it goes nowhere. Apparently in an interview they confirmed he wasn't going to tell her "I love you" or something along those lines like people thought, he was going to tell her that he was also force sensitive which is why he can randomly sense shit throughout the movie. Either they really shouldn't have had it in the movie or it should have been resolved, not answered in a fucking interview after the fact ffs

It might as well have been coincidence considering coincidences like that were happening throughout the movie. Maybe if anything had been planned from the start and production for this one wasn't such a mess, it might've been more obvious to people. Regardless it should've been handled differently and resolved, or not been in the movie at all. People shouldn't have to be hearing about it from the director on an interview after the fact.

    So here’s a question very few have asked, let alone answered: how is this trilogy part of the Skywalker Saga? The original three told a focused story: a son redeeming a father while overthrowing and evil empire. The prequels clearly relate because they tell the story of that father. Together, the six movies tell a cohesive story of the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. So far, so good. Emperor Palpatine ties the story together even more as he is the antagonist throughout.
    But what about the sequels? Rey is clearly the protagonist but she is not related to Luke nor Anakin. Sure, she’s a Jedi and trains under Leia but that hardly qualifies as the same story. Note these are episodes in a single story but I don’t see how the last three episodes relate. It would be like the last episodes of Friends fast-forwarding 30 years, and not starring any of the children of the main cast. This is clearly a soft reboot, not a continuation.
    Put another way, Rogue One and Solo are “stand-alone” but both are much more closely tied to the OT than the sequels! Indeed Rogue One ends right where Star Wars starts and the protagonist of Solo is the same character as one of the three main characters in this he OT. So how are the sequels, that have none of the same main characters nor is the protagonist related to the main characters of the previous trilogy?
    If Ben Solo were the central character of the trilogy, then this could be seen as one unified saga. But with Rey it fails because she doesn’t mesningfully continue the Skywalker storyline. They should have just had a separate trilogy with cameos rather than call it an extension. It’s not a sequel but just cashing in on the name.

      @@JRA6192 but that message is totally undermined by her being a Palpatine. She couldn’t be a nobody but had to be descendent from one of the strongest force users ever.
      And that was the exact same message as the OT but done better. Luke showed that he wasn’t defined by having Vader as a Father. Further, Vader himself could choose good even after all the evil. That’s a far more moving story of redemption and changing your lineage than Rey, who never attempted to redeem Palpatine nor was there a hint that they were related.

    • @AarturoSc
      @AarturoSc 2 роки тому +7

      The real answer is that this movies don’t fit the original author’s vision. They don’t fit in the same universe either by merit of in-universe inconsistencies.
      In these movies Luke is a completely different character with completely different world views, Han Solo went through no character development, the whole galaxy pose no opposition to a new tyrannical order regardless of what they went through during the George Lucas movies, etc.
      Even the Death Star II is magically in ruins despite being obliterated into dust in the original films, not to mention that even larger chunks of wreckage would have immediately been destroyed upon entering a planet’s atmosphere and the subsequent impact.
      This are their own movies in their own, nonsensical universe.

    Watching the documentary for the making of TROS confirms my speculation of the mentality of JJ and the writer's group. Very often you see them go, "you see this in TFA, we want to continue that, but we need to make it compatible with TLJ." And that I think is the main reason why the plot threads in TROS do not follow well from TLJ. Instead of picking up the gauntlet thrown down by TLJ and taking up the challenge, they stepped back and tried going the safe route.

    Rey being nobody was the perfect reveal for both her character and Star Wars as it resets it back to how this universe was first presented to us. How some random kid can become something more. I understand the King Arthur influences and it in turn gave us one of the greatest twists in cinema, but for this sequel trilogy, Rey Nobody was a far better choice for the future of Star Wars. Rey Palpatine just makes this another Return of The Jedi theme and story. I understand what the film is saying by choosing your own destiny but again, we already got that lesson. Lol. This just undermines the point The Last Jedi was making and the strides it took to move Star Wars forward outside of Star Wars tropes and TRoS just walks every single one of those ideas backwards. Lol.

Actually a lot of people loved TLJ. It was critically praised. And for all the hate it gets from fans, they wouldn't know what's best for these characters. That's why TRoS sucks so bad. Cause it seems like it was written by the fans. At least Rian was bold enough to actually tell his own unique story.

    • @Lockn3s5
      @Lockn3s5 3 роки тому +2

      @Cara Salusc That's not how opinions work. You are literally assuming things. I've heard these same complaints a million times before. Mark Hamill is an honest guy. He has since stated only after watching the film that he was wrong and really enjoyed Rian's take on the character after seeing all the elements come together and that he was wrong for his behavior because of exactly what you're doing. Justifying your hatred using his comments. Like I said Hamill is an honest guy. He didn't stop because he was told to. He stopped because his opinion changed. No one shuts Mark Hamill up. Lol. He literally trashed his character throughout the whole process. It wasnt until the film was finished and he watched it that his tune changed.
      And btw when JJ made the statement about Rian's script, it was way before the film had released and before the fan outrage. And it's not Empire 2. It's influenced by both Empire and RotJ but tells its own unique story about it's characters. He uses those films influences to subvert audience expectations.
      I'm no blind fanboy. I am very critical of things. We just have differing opinions. Clearly you're one of those fans who thinks your opinion is so rigjt and valid that you have to tell others to stop enjoying something you don't like. That's not how opinions work. That makes you an asshole.

    Really good, entertaining breakdown guys. I’m a fan.
    My main problem with the trilogy on the whole, and what becomes apparent in this movie, is a lack of a plan, and reactionary retconny things. I feel like this trilogy is a cautionary tale. Have a destination in mind instead of the pushing and pulling between JJ and Rian Johnson.

    Please hear me out. I had some ideas on how it may help the franchise. Rey should have been Anakin reincarnated, explaining why she is so strong, her connection to the skywalkers, why Anakin's saber called out to her, why Anakin's ghost was absent, ect. Both he and Palpatine come back but in different ways, where Palpatine just puts his soul in another clone body, while Anakin, fearing the return of the sith, gives up his immortality and reincarnates into a completely different body. Rey and Finn also fall in love. Never was that big of a fan of Reylo personally as I always saw them having more of a brother/sister relationship than a romantic one. Rey would also actually have to train as well. xD Instead of just learning stuff that even the chosen one had to train for. She'd still be gifted but I felt she learned stuff too easily.
    You also could have not had starkiller base. Don't even mention planet destroyers until the final movie, where they release a coupe dozen star destroyers but they destroy well known planets like, Dantooine, Hoth, ect. Luke's order still exists and he runs it along with Leia. Rey joins with Luke's new order and after Luke sacrifices himself to prevent Palpatine from killing them, 4 main Jedi go to Exegol to defeat the emperor. Rey, a scavenger and former slave who freed herself and the reincarnation of the chosen one. Finn, a storm trooper that was part of an experiment to artificially create force sensitive storm troopers. Ben, formerly known as Kylo and a former knight of ren, and Poe, a former Jedi from Luke's order and became a bounty hunter who uses the force.
    Poe, Finn, Rey and Ben join together to fight hoards of sith marauders and sith troopers and finally face the emperor. Leia unites the warring factions that were manipulated by the sith as well as the knights of ren and snoke and his loyalists. There are light sided, dark sided and even gray sided orders shown here, and they all have their own beliefs and agenda. I would have the Guardians of the Breath, The Imperial Knights and even The Order of Revan. Sequel trilogy would not have to be exactly like Legends. In fact, I'd prefer it'd go in a different direction. As good as Legends was, it wasn't perfect either. Like with Dark Empire, Palpatine just comes back, but here, I feel Anakin would return but in a different way.
    Rey to be Anakin reincarnated and show that the chosen one doesn't just disappear, but return in different forms over time.
    Rey technically fulfills the prophecy since she is the reincarnation of the chosen one and she destroys Palpatine once and for all. Her being the reincarnation of the chosen one would really make the sequel trilogy feel like it's part of the Skywalker Saga. Think about it. Prequels showed Anakin's life as a Jedi, then the originals showed his life as a Sith and with the sequel trilogy, it would show the reincarnation of Anakin: Rey, living a new life and a new adventure. Now be honest, tell me what you think. I personally think something like this would have made the sequels amazing.

      @@brandongordon8544 But WHY. Why does Tatooine have ANY significance to her? Why is she burying the sabers in the first place? The only fucking reason she's at the Skywalker home, which I seriously doubt she would know the location of without R2 I guess, is so she can feel emotionally connected to the Skywalker origin and pretend to be one. I lost hope as soon as the dramatic Kylo/Palp meeting ended on "She is not who you think..." "Who is she?". And of course the last line of the movie some rando just HAPPENS to meander through the Skywalker's front yard I suppose, in the middle of an abandoned barren desert. And of course she says to Rey "Who... Are you?? Specifically can you say your last name aloud to the camera please?" All of my worst fears about this movie were realized. Is Disney really making money with Star Wars? Let's do the math.
      $4 billion to buy it + The Force Awakens Budget: $306M + Rogue One Budget: $265M + The Last Jedi Budget: $317M + Solo Budget: $300M + The Rise of Skywalker Budget: $275M = $5.463 billion
      Box Office: $2B + $1B + $1.3B + $393M + $517M(so far) = $5.21 Billion.
      That's not even factoring marketing costs. They haven't even broke even yet.

    Should have seen the writing on the wall when JJ brought CT on. Also, when they incorporated Fortnite in the marketing. Very telling right there. Oy. If you just HAD to bring The Emperor back, he still could have wanted Rey just because she was super powerful, OR because Kylo/Ben and/or Rey have equal light/dark he could continue to try to pit the 2 against each other and then want to take the victor, but Rey and Ben could have turn the tables against him together....OR they could have HEALED the Emperor ...so many more interesting ways to do it. We needed more Ben. In my theater, cheers when they kissed, groans when Ben died and when Rey said "Skywalker."

    The way I read the Holdo Maneuver is that it's actually pretty tricky because
    1. you need a large ship to have a far enough hyper-jump window to reach a ship they're not practically touching
    2. It only works at a specific range/angle/against ships too large to move out of the way
    3. They didn't know it would work
    4. She didn't write down any of the math so nobody knows exactly how it was done

    • @chompythebeast
      @chompythebeast Рік тому +2

      All you have to do is activate a ship's hyperdrive while it's pointed at another ship from a distance you probably can't miss. Even if you do miss, you could presumably come back around and try again. It's a ludicrously simple maneuver that no amount of in-universe logic could backtrack. It doesn't require more math or calculations than a regular jump, in fact it takes less since you're not even concerned with colliding with anything down the way like normal. And there's no reason, given the laws of physics, that it shouldn't work, but even if there were doubts, they now know for certain it can.
      It makes no sense why _all_ Star Wars combat doesn't just involve launching 1 pound weights at hyperspeed at any ship you want to destroy. Just build the smallest hyperdrives you can possibly build, put them on dummy ships that can be remotely controlled, and use them as torpedos that could blow up small planets. Put thousands of them in a Star Destroyer's bay rather than silly fighters with people in them: It'd be cheaper, easier, and _far_ more effective.
      Introducing that kind of logic to the fantasy space universe just makes all the "Wars" in Star Wars seem absolutely ridiculous and just plain stupid. They should not have muddied the fiction's waters with that kind of obvious real-world logic
