- Morrissey's rare early interview with David (Kid) Jensen - BBC Radio 1 Session - 26th June 1983. Includes the session tracks These Things Take Time and You've Got Everything Now.
Good find .. nice one, pretty still good quality from old tape..
also good to know that the new LP is coming out within minutes 🎸
Quietly confident then, Morrissey... Still, I suppose it all worked out quite nicely for him.
"I sound a mess" 😂😂
Great to hear this + love the pic!
Waiting for a bus that never came
I feel exactly the same about computerized music, it's the death of a human soul, even in Orwell's 1984 they listen to purely synthesized music and that was written decades and decades ago
You have a thought going...
You've Got Everything Now
The Smiths
As merry as the days were long
I was right and you were wrong
Back at the old grey school
I would win and you would lose
But you've got everything now
You've got everything now
And what a terrible mess I've made of my life
Oh, what a mess I've made of my life
No, I've never had a job
Because I've never wanted one
I've seen you smile
But I've never really heard you laugh
So who is rich and who is poor?
I cannot say...oh
You are your mother's only son
And you're a desperate one
Oh...
But I don't want a lover
I just want to be seen...oh...in the back of your car
A friendship sadly lost?
Well this is true...and yet, it's false
Oh...
But did I ever tell you, by the way?
I never did like your face
But you've got everything now
You've got everything now
And what a terrible mess I've made of my life
Oh, what a mess I've made of my life
No, I've never had a job
Because I'm too shy
I've seen you smile
But I've never really heard you laugh
So who is rich and who is poor ?
I cannot say...oh
Oh...
You are your mother's only son
And you're a desperate one
Oh...
But I don't want a lover
I just want to be tied... oh...to the back of your car
To the back of your car
To the back of your car
To the back of your car
To the back of your car
To the back of your car
Oh...

my 18th birthday
Can't have been 26th June 1983. That was a Sunday and David Jensen's show wasn't broadcast on a Sunday.
The session might have been recorded on a Sunday though?
The date in the title shows 30th May 1984, which fits with what the Peel Wiki has for that date :
"The night Liverpool won the European Cup on penalties after drawing 1-1 against Roma, minutes before the show started. Peel is incoherent with joy and David Jensen has to keep things moving until our host can recover his composure a bit."
The BBC Genome record for Kid Jensen's programme on 30th May (a Wednesday) notes that at 8pm there was "Collectors' Choice : music enthusiasts are invited into the studio to play top favourite records from their personal collections.".
Synth music is actually more human. You can get closer to the actual feeling you feel with synth because of all the different sounds, whereas guitars have limited sounds and let's face it guitars have electrified sounds like synths do.
It's a fallacy to say guitar is more organic sounding than synths.
I just learned you something
Damn thanks Phil
Do you have the rest of the session?
I thought the other two members were Rick and Bruce
Rick and Bruce were members of the Jam.
TBF Morrissey did refer to Andy & Mike jokingly as Bruce & Rick in an interview with Q magazine in 1994.
I wonder if he liked Simple Minds
Fart at 7:12 ?
Think David went “mm”
