Hey Rose, another great breakdown, and yeah all this brands are making money out of marketing, but that's how it's always been. Also I'm a shoemaker apprentice so answering the question where you take apart the heel lining and the rest of the lining, and ask why theres a thinning on the edges, this is because that thinning of the leather or more commonly said skiving the leather is used in order not to make bumps in the shoe itself, because if you don't skive the leather and stack it on top of the other pieces of leather, usually it gets uncomfortable for the wearer. Please keep this good content, we all appreciate it.

Another great 'dissected' video 🙌🏾watching this makes me happy that I decided to buy Oliver Cabell Low 1's over the Common Projects Achilles Low. I've had mine for over 2 years now and they're still going strong. I researched both pairs of shoes heavily as well as the Koio Capri Tripple Low-Tops and I decided to go with Oliver Cabell. CP still have a better look. The sleekness is still unmatched. If you’re someone who thinks they look the same that’s fine, get Stan Smiths. The name and the style is what your paying for. I wore them today for first time breaking them in and I am sure they will fit nicey when completed. Only issue I have is they are incredibly heavy for their size, but that is because of the quality.
Nice review and commentary in addressing bias and all! From the top down view, it seems that the difference from CPs and OCs is the silhouette if anything worth noting. I guess the price of both is the difference between what comes first? If Oliver cabell made the “first” minimalist “premium leather sneaker”, what are the odds that they’d be tempted to jack up their prices 🤷♂️
Thank you for making these videos. It really shows that sometimes we are paying for a brand name and not for the quality. I never was going to pay $425 for a CP if I know there are brands out there with the same quality shoe at half the price. I have a grey pair of OC and I love them, also the brand Greats makes a quality shoe too for about the same price as OC.😀
I literally got an ad about "made in italy" white sneakers on this video 💀 Also for the longest time I thought this guy's actual name was rose anvil but I just noticed the name card that literally tells you his name smh
Hello, I believe the shank is used to improve the support to the arch and improve the stability of the person wearing the shoes. The position of it is along the line where the most of our weight is distributed
Really interesting to see. I still think it's crazy to see how the reputation of CP has blown up over the years. I have a pair from 2006 when they were known as the 'budget fashion shoe company' and 60% of the modern prices. Mine lasted 6 years of near daily wear, so I'm more than happy with the value for money, but I would not pay modern prices for them. Doubly so knowing that they are little different to cheaper companies and the whole aesthetic of CPs, in the last at least, was to be understated. Not that I really buy fashion shoes any more anyway.
I got two pairs in EU from internet for 450. That's about what people should pay for it, if they're any smart. You got to look for sales, deals, store credit and birthday stuff etc... I got exactly what I wanted at the right size, it just took a couple hours to find the best deals but now I have em.
The shank isn't so much for distributing downward force, but upward. Say you're riding a bike, the pedal is pushing up into your arch but the shank more evenly distributes the pressure. Or maybe you step on a rock about an inch square. Stuff like that.
These tear downs are brilliant, really well put together. Just shows you what you are really spending your hard earned cash on. I buy gear like I buy tools, quality always wins. That said, it would be interesting to see a tear down of an Ali-express/Wish/Amazon Basics kind of footwear.
Good Man Brand sneakers are made in Italy and are commonly considered a great alternative to CP’s. They’d probably sponsor your video, as well. Or, maybe dissect one of Great’s Royal sneaker. They’re a popular brand. I bet CP’s might send Luca Brasi to your home soon!
the different deconstruction method on this was on point and I feel like showing both that and the section really gives a more look into how the shoe is constructed. I hope the next shoes would be done this way. I hope you get sponsored by ArtisanLab in the future
Did you not hear him say its the same leather as the common project/sourced from the same factory. So it's top grain. All these shoes seem to come out of the same factory, the Koios also had the same leather.
Great video! I would love to see you dissect a pair of Aussie made R.M. Williams Craftsman boots and a pair of Brunello Cucinelli sneakers! But RM Williams would be AMAZING! They are great boots!
After watching this video I have to say your the most trusted opinion in the sneaker game in my opinion. I watched a bunch of videos after this one comparing common projects to Cabell and koio and its funny to see so many ppl automatically assume CP are so much more luxe when you prove definitively that they really aren't. I'm looking forward to you doing a pair of sneakers by Greats or Buscemi since they sell themselves as the Hermes of sneakers and even based their shoe on a birkin bag and sell for about a thousand bucks
I wished there was like a walk through exhibit with bisected shoes and other stuff just to give people an idea of how their most basic items are made. to be fair your workshop is starting to look like a very cool shoe museum. I approve.
The shank is meant to limit flexibility and provide stability to an otherwise flexible shoe. It’s probably not 100% necessary in sneakers like it is in dress shoes (for example) where it’s needed for support so the heel drop doesn’t collapse overtime.
I've been wanting a pair of Commons for a very long time but really can't bring myself to paying that much for such a simple sneaker. This has been very insightful. I doubt I'll get a pair now. lol.
Why don't brands like these that label themselves with 'made in italy' not sell their products in europe? There is nothing in them that could not be made in the US and there are plenty of europeans that would buy them if only they were sold in Europe.
@@olivercabell8913 A pair of Low whites cost $188,- plus $17.39 shipping (DHL) plus 16.9% import tax over price + shipping ($ 34.7) plus 21% sales tax over the total of that makes them $290.50. If send to europe from the US. why not sell them here if they are made here in europe anyway.
There's some nihilistic aesthetic in seeing such things torn apart just to see what they really are. Edit: If you ignore the fact that this is also an advertisement .

I got exactly what I wanted at the right size, it just took a couple hours to find the best deals but now I have em.
so glad this channel is growing
The shank isn't so much for distributing downward force, but upward. Say you're riding a bike, the pedal is pushing up into your arch but the shank more evenly distributes the pressure. Or maybe you step on a rock about an inch square. Stuff like that.
The leather is thinned out (skived) in the heel so that when other leathers are layered on top, it doesn’t get too thick and bulky.
The bandsaw!!!!! something about just brings me joy
Thanks for showing the quality of different white sneakers. It makes me feel better about spending more than $100 on a pair if shoes
Fav vid so far. I'm really fond of this brand for a variety of reasons. Beckett Simonon as well.
These kind of videos where there's the voice-over are actually a lot better. I like the more edited style, makes it easier to watch.
Thanks I was shopping around for some all white sneakers and didn't know which one to buy. I'm going the Oliver Campbell
I bet CP’s might send Luca Brasi to your home soon!
exactly what I wanted thank you so much!
the different deconstruction method on this was on point and I feel like showing both that and the section really gives a more look into how the shoe is constructed. I hope the next shoes would be done this way. I hope you get sponsored by ArtisanLab in the future
Could you have a look at "Svenssons"? Supposedly full-grain hand made in Italy. (Now on 50% sale)
i did miss the part were you peel the leather a little to see if its full grain, top grain or genuine!
Did you not hear him say its the same leather as the common project/sourced from the same factory. So it's top grain. All these shoes seem to come out of the same factory, the Koios also had the same leather.
Would love to see a 2021 version with all new line-up like Axel Arigatos Clean 90 and Raf Simons Orions
I'm happy to learn from this video that buying this shoe is worth the price cuz I recently have two and very much happy with it.
Great video! I would love to see you dissect a pair of Aussie made R.M. Williams Craftsman boots and a pair of Brunello Cucinelli sneakers! But RM Williams would be AMAZING! They are great boots!
the shank protects your foot arch from over bending in motion (tortional support )
You made that purchase decision soooo much simpler for me.
Another great video for the people Weston. Thank you kindly!
Really loving these videos! So helpful and informative for the consumer.
I wished there was like a walk through exhibit with bisected shoes and other stuff just to give people an idea of how their most basic items are made. to be fair your workshop is starting to look like a very cool shoe museum. I approve.
I love your videos! Keep doing what you're doing ❤ Also yes, cut the damn laces!
Even though its sponsored gotta give em respect for allowing their product to be scrutinised like this. It shows confidence.
The shank is meant to limit flexibility and provide stability to an otherwise flexible shoe. It’s probably not 100% necessary in sneakers like it is in dress shoes (for example) where it’s needed for support so the heel drop doesn’t collapse overtime.
OMG you just made my request from last video! Thank you!
Love this style breakdown
Bought oliver cabell low 1 transparents last year and barely worre them... looking forward to busting them out again this summer
I've been wanting a pair of Commons for a very long time but really can't bring myself to paying that much for such a simple sneaker. This has been very insightful. I doubt I'll get a pair now. lol.
Love this video. Thanks for making it.
Why don't brands like these that label themselves with 'made in italy' not sell their products in europe? There is nothing in them that could not be made in the US and there are plenty of europeans that would buy them if only they were sold in Europe.
We ship to Europe
You may not know this, but shoes can be bought on the internet.
@@renatoetzi You can check out Svensson shoes, Artisan Lab and AdaysMarch. All minimal sneakers with Margom Soles and Full Grain leather.
@@renatoetzi because inventory
On sale right now for those interested
There's some nihilistic aesthetic in seeing such things torn apart just to see what they really are.
Edit: If you ignore the fact that this is also an advertisement .
not sure you know what nihilism is
Advertisement or not, who gives a shit
I totally agree with you. Some level of sweet satisfaction. Like a rage room for shoes...
Very Humbe man ,and makes great content ,this is one of my top 5 UA-cam channels !
Yo should really, REALLY consider doing a series like this but for dress shoes. You know classic brands like Florsheim, Johnston and Murphy, Allen Edmons, Carmina. It would be nice to see how fairly priced some of these are and if the different price points really mark a difference in quality!
Just an idea.
Crown Northampton’s please ! Would be a great add to the ‘luxury’ white sneaker. Love to spend my money on the best materials/value out there and these reviews are helping figure out what that is
one of the best videos so far ... i would love to see a final comparison between all of them
Great Video! I thought the format of this one was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Really hoping to see Greats as that’s what I own!
These look to be very well made. I'm not convinced about the value, but the look nice.
Add to that overheads and packaging. It reduces the margin to probably 50-60$
I really like these guys. Would love to chat further with Scott and find out more about his brand and what inspired him to start up Oliver Cabell. Great video as always
Sgabrielson@olivercabell.com
Oliver Cabell thanks a lot, much appreciated. Will drop you a mail early next week. We in the process of launching in the US so looking forward to chatting and hearing your story. All the best
Just got a pair in slate can't wait to break them in
Should do some lineman specialty boots such ass halls or west coast boots to see if the shanks are any different
