Custom Pack - Reclining RS front seats, sound deadening material, RS centre console with clock, varnished wood trim panels, heated rear window.
    EXTERIOR
The road version of the rally winner and available only at your Ford Rallye Sport Centre was the draw of these special cars built at the Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) division. Finished in striking and desirable Daytona Yellow, (Code T), exactly as it left the factory in 1974, this genuine Mexico is absolutely stunning. Incredible detailing extends to the underside for those wishing to enter the show circuit of this proven national concours winner. All the vital components and strengthened AVO workmanship are laid bare for all to see. The chrome, Triplex glass and badges are in immaculate order and the lens units are FoMoCo. The contrasting Mexico stripes and Cibie Oscar lights are in perfect condition cementing the iconic rally look. One for the discerning collector.
    INTERIOR
Gorgeous RS reclining sports seats with roll top headrests still have the original Black Beta cloth upholstery and other Custom Pack luxuries such as the plastic armrest extensions in the rear quarter panels, centre console and varnished wood trim. The padded facia has no cracks or rips and is fitted with the factory correct 130mph speedometer and 7,000rpm rev counter. All gauges function along with the clock with audible electric movement! The three-spoke leather RS steering wheel looks amazing and even the door cards are original fitment and not remanufactured. The boot area continues the showroom experience with the spare wheel held in place by the rubber strap mounted in the wheel well. The Hardura boot mat, Ford jack and wheel brace are within the original fawn muslin bag and black rear light protectors are undamaged. Spectacular.
    ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Spectators will stare wide-eyed in amazement under the bonnet of this iconic Escort Mexico as it is so clean, witnessed by all the awards! The four cylinder 1600 GT crossflow unit with the 711M block is quoted in the sales brochure at 86bhp to go up to a ton with little effort and hit sixty in under 11 seconds. The original AVO build plate remains fixed to the slam panel and even items such as the plug leads are Motorcraft items and period Lucas light relays remain fitted. The close ratio all-synchromesh 4-speed gearbox with heavy-duty three-rail shift ensures positive changes.
    WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Fitted with the optional RS four-spoke alloy wheels with the correct H71AB-1007-AC part number to one spoke and RS centre caps in dark grey all unmarked. The tyres are matching premium Dunlop 175/70 R13 items with ample tread. The vacuum servo-assistance brakes run on a single line braking system with M16 front calipers on solid discs and Lockheed 9” rear brakes.
    HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in July 1974, and supplied by TC Harrison Sheffield Ltd, this genuine Mexico has toured the show circuit winning the most prestigious awards. Highly regarded and registered with both the AVO Owners Club since 1986 and RS Owners Club with its own Concours Competition Logbook. Two boxes of trophies including Best Mexico at Ford AVO Club National Day are included with the history file. Previously owned by AVO Club Member, Mr Spence for 25 years, he was insistent his championship car should be driven to all the events and not trailered and despite this, he still scooped up many awards! A delightful photo exists of this car parked outside the AVO factory before it was demolished. A comprehensive file contains many documents from the Ziebart rust proofing guarantee carried out in 1975, old MOT certificates and Club valuations. All handbooks and spare keys are present.

A truly magnificent car that inspired its Brazilian 'cousin,' the 1977 Ford Corcel GT. Indeed, the rightful place for this beauty is not on the streets but displayed with all the splendor it deserves.
