Tomas Brolin was one of the most exciting and promising young players in the early 90s and his performances at the 1994 World Cup, where Sweden won the bronze medals, earned him a place in the top 4 players in the Ballon D'Or voting for the same year. But within four years he would retire from football, aged just 28, after several controversies at Leeds and injury-hit spells back at Parma and with Crystal Palace. This is one of the saddest stories in recent memory, as despite his incredible talent, a horrendous injury forced Brolin to retire after failing to regain his form.

No one will ever come close to his level in the Swedish national team, not even Zlatan. Brolin could dominate an entire game at world class level, absolute talent.

Such a shame, I remember him coming to leeds and the buzz around him joining. If Wilkinson had only played him in his preferred position then who knows what would of happened. I really rated him and even had an ongoing bet with a work colleague that he'd do well at leeds, needless to say I lost.

The injury was so nasty that it was an achievement just to come back at all. And Sweden as a team was in wreck after the injury. From top three on the worldranking down to 20-30 something in just a year. Brolin was that important.

One of my favourite players of the 90's. I loved his goal against England in Euro 92!

In my opinion he was the best player i WC 1994. Simply a wonderful talent, with a strong work ethic at the times he felt motivation. Great video, thanks!

Bro you deserve many more subscribers.
As for Brolin, Im sure many people who consider themselves fans are not even aware of him, however he is one of the greatest Scandinavian players ever. Its too bad he never played for a bigger club .For example Juventus at that time used to sign many North Europeans like him, he could have easily joined

The scandinavian Maradona. Amazing talent, so-so work ethic. He liked to party and got unlucky with his injury.

Tomas Brolin really brings in to my mind Van Basten. Really good player and potential to be in the goat debate, but a little bit different. The biggest thing in their carriers were injury that ended theyre carrers..
