- In this very special episode of KiaSS, I chat to Derek Bell in his McLaren F1 GTR, that he raced in at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Bringing back special memories, and talking about how the F1 GTR was to drive!

What an honour it was to chat to Derek in his F1 GTR!
Ignoring value, which of the 3 Harrods cars in this video would you take home? F1, P1, or Senna? 🧐
In what universe is the correct answer not the f1?
F1. Always the F1. Even taking the F1 out of the equation, the answer would still be F1.
It would have to be the f1 that I would take home because it’s such an iconic car. I remember when the McLaren showroom was on park lane and I used to look at it for ages on my way too lunch !
F1 forever!
Has to be the iconic F1, was lucky enough to see them at La Sarthe in 96,97, and 98,(missed 95), such an amazing machine, fantastic memories, and what a wonderful video that was😃
Wonderful interview in an incredible setting! Jodie’s ‘gentle touch’ in guiding the conversation is so effective.
Thanks David! More coming soon :)
You sound like a women
@@bernardmontgomery4924 - Do you find what I wrote to be inaccurate? Perhaps I just understand what women bring to the table that men typically don’t.
That shot with the F1, P1 and Senna; All in their GTR liveries. My eyes are all tears
Dreamy wasn't it!
Derek Bell is always such a gentleman whenever I’ve seen him interviewed. Fantastic job! Great interview.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I will always remember wandering around the paddock at Silverstone in the group C days after the 1000 km race and finding Derek and Tiff Needell sitting on the steps of the motor home chatting and answering questions from the fans long after most of the other drivers had gone. They had just finished an exhausting race in Richard Lloyd's 962 prototype and demonstrated what true gentlemen they were.
Getting Derek to talk about his best day with son Justin racing on Father's Day at LeMans about broke you both and all of us viewing up. That was a masterful piece of cinematography, there is no other way to put it. Well done Jodie, well done.
Amazing memory from Derek, I didn't know at the time he did that!
Le Mans legend! I was walking from Houx to the track a couple of years ago, while crossing the car park I noticed Mr Bell getting out of his car. Being within earshot I overheard him commenting to his wife that he had left his credentials in the car, and wouldn’t be able to get to wherever he was going, without them. His wife I think replied, they will obviously know who you are, but he was insistent that he should return to get them. I remember thinking what a humble man, having achieved such greatness at such a hallowed track, he didn’t seem to think he had the god given right to strut around like he owned the place, quite clearly if any one had earned the right it was him! What a great, charming, and unassuming gentleman.
Great interview of a great man!
Thanks for sharing your insight :) Glad you enjoyed the episode :)
The GOAT forever! The Mclaren F1
Hard to beat 😍
That last part seeing him drive off and then the blended footage new and old really got me choked up, what a wonderful film thank you so much for doing this
Glad you enjoyed it
What a treat this episode was! Derek Bell must be one of the nicest guys in motor racing. I've been lucky enough to meet him around Goodwood on several occasions, and he's always got time to chat to his fans. After five minutes you think you've known him since forever. He has every right to be the big "Star", yet he's remained firmly "One of us." Long may he continue to grace our circuits!
Here here!
@@KiddinaSweetShop Jodie: If you ever get up to Cheshire, it would be wonderful if you could do an episode where you visit Iain Tyrrell's workshop! You two would have so much to talk about.
Love Jodie's enthusiasm for all things Motorsport and she's a good listener which a lot of interviewers lack these days
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Jesus Jodie, how the hell are you going to top this? I've thought that a few times but this just HAS to be the ultimate. Wonderful stuff!
ha! You might be surprised with what we have filmed lately ;)
@@KiddinaSweetShop Can't wait Kiddo!
One of the best videos I've seen this week. The quality on display for this channel is something to be incredibly proud of. Keep it up Kidd :)
No plans to stop anytime soon ;)
Derek Bell, a drivers driver and a true gentleman. My son and I had the pleasure of meeting him at Leguna Seca a few years ago. He was heading to the parking lot and stopped to talk with my son about qualifying the 917 at Lemans. He never seemed like he had something more important to do. When the conversation was done, he headed to the parking lot. A couple days later I discovered where he was going. He had had to get to Monterey to drive a Ferrari 250 GTO through an auction. A truely humble man who is very gracious with his time!
Exceptional interview, by the way.

Amazing. Such a lovely lovely man and welcome to the channel xx
Wonderful interview and Derek is a great driver and a true gentleman always a favourite of mine, a class act.
A favourite of mine too!
Never thought a car would make me cry.Thank you Mclaren for this masterpiece.
Everyone has a lot of love for the F1!
To this day...the F1 GTR is still unmatched in looks and style and will always retain the title of King of all cars.!💖 It was a very beautiful video to watch a legend like Derek Bell to speak of his experience...like the other legends before him, there are certain drivers/pilots that just stand apart from the crew and Derek is certainly one of the best in this day and age.💛👍🤘
Absolutely. Such an incredible human being!!
Great interview. Derek still looks remarkable after all these years & given his age. What a legend!
What a lovely, respectful interview. Thanks Jodie!
Thanks for watching :)
I love these interviews by Jodie, so passionate, not robotic like other, by far my favourite channel on here ❤
Glad you like them!
What a guy Derek is and that F1 is a thing of beauty, thanks for featuring them both!
A pleasure! Thanks for watching
Love this 👏 hairs on end for last section in particular
Beautiful interview Jodie. Thank you so much and what a great man Mr Derek Bell is.
Mr. Bell is in the pantheon of great racers and is a class act. His book My Racing Life is a wonderful read and his monthly Octane essays are terrific. Jodie, just excellent like your Chubb podcasts. Thanks!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. Derek is wonderful
That intro was beautiful, Harrods F1 GTR, Senna GTR LM Harrods, and a P1 with a Harrods livery
These stories/videos and most importantly the cars are just awesome
Couldn't agree more!
I met Derek Bell at a Porsche driving day, there were about 30 of us nobodies, he spoke to me in exactly the same humble and professional manner as he did here with Jodie. I remember thinking there is more to his level of success than being a top driver, he was impressive in many other ways like listening and communicating.
So true
I can't believe how fresh the F1 still looks, and what an awesome livery.
So good!
Great show. Saw Derek at Sebring a couple of times from the Porche paddock. Looking beautiful as ever, Kiddo!
Great interview👏 Derek Bell is the supreme endurance racing driver, a legend in motorsport; but he is also incredibly amiable, & grounded. Love to watch anything with him; well done Jodie👍
The SOUND is spectacular!!!
Isn't it just?! This is not on race pipes either!
What a lovey guy iv met him a lot of times I remember one year coming back from leman he was on the ferry with his daughter we had a great chat and pictures with my girl friend good memories
This should be on everyone’s watch list
Felt like a dream that final clip. Pitty can only like once.
Know what you mean about the last few clips :)
That ending sequence gave me goosebumps, what a fantastic video.
Thank you James!
There needs to be a documentary done about Le Mans old school gentlemen drivers.
Absolutely, they are the best!
'95 was the first of 11 years I went to spectate at Le Mans..no idea what happened in the race until the next Thursday when Autosport magazine came out in the UK ! .....you could still get behind the pits in those days and just rock up at a camp site and pitch your tent where you liked.....We met Andy Wallace in 95 behind the pits after the race and he just handed the trophy to one of my mates .so he could sign my Scottish flag ...great days
Those were great days. I started the first of my 10 years in 1997
Amazing memories! thanks for sharing
The F1 stirs one's emotions like no other car, and Dereck is an absolute Gentlemen and an old school elbows out endurance racer.
Wonderful experience Jodie.
Your channel as they say in Italy..... "Pura Perfezionè "🤙
So cool. Thanks Neil! X
Those scenes at the end were beautifully edited!! Great work once again!
Great video and glad I could contribute in a small way, with clips from my channel. Thank you for the credit 👍🏁
Thanks again! Lovely clips and footage you have there :)
A true gent. I remember being at LM 1995, and boy we were all rooting for Derek to win.....which would’ve equaled Jacky Ickx’s victories. Pity about the result (although JJ Lehto’s drive was awe inspiring) but it was an amazing race with a fairy tale end result for the awesome F1. Never seen cars as filthy after the race due to the awful weather, waterlogged camping.....but grateful I was there to witness. Thanks Ms. Kidd for a great vid and interview.
Thank you Paul!
@@KiddinaSweetShop you've replied to 100% of my (2) comments. Thank you....but surely you can't possibly read them all???....ah!...got it.....you move in different circles to the ones I'm used to......you'll have "people" that do that sort of thing I presume? LOL! I can't blame you if that's the case.
Living legend....Great interview. Thank you!
A true gent.
Supreme video. Many thanks for this superb interview Jodie!
A pleasure to film and share it with it you all :)
Thanks Jodi. Great interview, brought back such fantastic memories. Saw Derek at Goodwood this year again (2022), great to see he's still going strong. I used to take my son there when he was a kid, now HE takes his old dad there with his son. Funny how life goes around! Loving your channel xx
Amazing! Glad you enjoyed xx
Wow what a legend Derek is! To see all 3 McLaren GTRs was just mega!!
Not many people justify the word 'legend' but Derek most certainly does!
Very hard to believe these cars done that so long ago now and also the look in you're eyes when Mr bells telling his stories just shows how much love and interest you have for racing and cars in general .you look lost in his words 👍👍brilliant ..
Thanks Michael :)
A beautiful interview ❤️
Beautiful story and well put together thank you!💯
Thank you! It was an amazing opportunity
What a simply wonderful interview. And that V12 sound! Thank you.
Pleasure! thanks X
My older brother and I met him at Mid-Ohio in 79 at and IMSA race, he was very laid back and answered all of our questions, very nice gentleman, have his in car 956 video!
Amazing! A true gent xx
I rarely comment on videos but this is amazing work as are your others so far. You and Bad Obsessions project binky are the only things I watch the day they are uploaded. Look forward to more!
Why thank you! Means a lot X
Great interview, and some great cinematography, Derek is a legend, I met him at Goodwood once, a really lovely man. one of my favourite cars, and had the pleasure of sitting in one, when I worked for Gulf, back in the day, and the F1 GTR would be my take home choice, because there was nothing like it in the day, The P1 and the Senna had rivals, the F1, was a Concorde moment, just like the Porsche 959, the F40 before, and the Veyron after.
So true! Thanks for the kind words
The quality of these videos is awesome excellent editing and a great host thanks to all involved
Thank you Stephen 😊
Another great one Jodie, thank you very much. Good luck!
Thank you Timothy
A very nice and relaxed style of interview to watch and how the film finished with the panino and footage overlays, gave me goosebumps.
Thank you Darren, glad you enjoyed
Beautifully shot and told!! Well done!
The Bells along with the legendary Mac Daddy. 👏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Excellent interview and amazingly well done video. Bless you and thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a gentleman. Brilliant!
Superb ! It's wonderful that Derek's idol was Stirling Moss ! I have no doubt there was mutual respect . I met Sir Stirling very briefly at Goodwood and he was the perfect gentleman . For some reason his eye seemed to be more interested in Mrs. Davey than myself ! 😂😂 Getting used to the fact that anything you do is going to be special. Thanks Jodie .
Total gentleman I was lucky to meet him at a Porsche car show in Scotland a couple of years ago, he came over and chatted with myself and two of my friends.
He’s such a legend
Jodies passion for racing and it’s history is on display here in her listening and focus on Derrick. Great stuff.
I absolutely love motorsport, particularly F1 and LM24!
as a massive Jaguar fan, I followed the TWR Jags and Derek Bell was often in the videos because he was a Porsche driver then and they would interview him, But in all the interviews no matter how pressured Derek was, he maintained this cool and controlled attitude even when the drive shafts failed on the Porsche
Such an amazing driver
Thank you for making these
Brilliant interview.
Thank you 😊
That was great 👍,, I've been lucky enough to chat with Derek a few times and his recall for dates and cars and races is amazing...lovely man and a terrific driver 👌. Cheers, Steve
Thanks for watching :)
Wonderful video (incredible production), the legend that is Derek Bell, in a very special car.
He’s such a hero! Thanks Martyn xx
Magical seeing the Senna and the P1 in the yellow and green Harrods livery looks awesome, takes me back to 1995 still remember that Le Mans race well.!
Fond memories indeed! Thanks for watching
@@KiddinaSweetShop was a pleasure watching this.
This was wonderful! Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching!
Love the McLaren F1, the best supercar of all time imho. V12 627bhp, 0-60 in 3.2 secs & top speed of 241mph without turbos or superchargers, just pure, sheer raw power. Never see another naturally aspirated engine car like that again. Great interview by Jodie, love her enthusiasm & passion for cars and is a natural at interviews
Thank you x
Multiple legends in one video, simply awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great interview that reminded us so much about how special the late 90’s were. I miss the rawness of what it was. I was in the middle of it with Indycar and I miss it
Brilliant interview and circonstances! Thank you Jodie for this rare opportunity to see Le Man through the eyes of Derek Bell. It was gracefully done and put together. I'm subscribing.
I think SIr Derek Bell would have md a great astronaut, what he is describing as cool, calm and collected is the same as John Glenn. What a magical interview, love the chemistry between them.
He sure would! Glad you enjoyed it :)
First video of yours I’ve watched. Loved everything about it. The background music and the blending of footage at the end was fantastic. New subscriber! What a legend of motorsport Derek is. The car was pretty decent too 👌
Awesome! Thank you! Welcome along!
This is amazing. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
F1, all day long...especially that GTR with its amazing history.
Just glorious
Cinematographic piece of art! Congratulations lady!
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Loving this content. Fabulous.
Thank you very much! Such an honour to chat to Derek.
This was a beautiful interview. There truly cannot be a greater feeling than sharing your career and passion with your child. Derek Bell is a blessed man.
And kudos to whoever chose the background music, it made the interview so special and it gave it that air of reverence.
Thanks 🙏🏼 he’s a true hero in my eyes
Another awesome video. Thank you.
Thank you Martyn
Thanks for the video, made my day a little better :)
Pleased to hear it :)
I've come back to watch this 3 times now.
Stories like this with such individuals need to be recorded more than ever for prosperity of generations to come.
Great to hear!
What a beautiful interview and video. 🥰🥰
Fantastic. So pleased to see this. What a wonderful video it's turned out to be. Well done, and thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks for watching
Jodie,
What a lovely video.
The photography and cinematography were 1 St class.
I could have listened to Derek Bells racing stories for hours. What a lovely guy.
The sound of the V12 reminded me of an era now sadly passed when the 24 Hr Le Mans was full of amazing sounding cars.
Loved filming it as much as you did watching it!
Wow am I glad I found your channel. The way you allow these designers and drivers of such historic cars the opportunity to tell their stories is incredible. You are clearly very passionate about what they have to say and they know that as well. Thank you for the great content 🙂
Welcome aboard! Plenty more to come!
Such an excellent interview well done Kidd ! Great channel.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How can you not love Derek Bell? This man is such a great racing driver, storyteller and fine gentleman. I could listen to him for hours chatting about the old times and legendary races. Still so fresh, humble, reflective and mindful. Always keep in mind that he gets eighty by October this year. Thanks for sharing this nice interview. Greetings from "Stucki's" home country Germany.
Couldn't agree more! What a life he has lead!!!
@@KiddinaSweetShop A life that requires sunglasses and safety belts... ;-) It would deserve to become a movie.
Goosebumps all the way through
Thanks for watching! Check back soon
Another great interview, DB race legend and really ‘Cool’ guy.
Such a well produced video! Beautiful cars and amazing story!
Glad you enjoyed it!
WOW WOW WOW. Incredible. I had goosebumps watching this. Well done Jodie this new series is amazing!
Thank you my lovely!
These are great videos! Keep it up 👍🏻
Bell is a great man and gentleman, ONE of A KIND
Here here!
Just watched this after watching the vid from Goodwood this year of a load of Minis hooning around the track hahahaha talk about a completely different kettle of fish when Mr Bell talks about ‘caressing’ the wheel / car around. I pray that long may he continue enjoying being behind the wheel of so many phenomenal cars, as I for one love seeing him driving.
Thank you sooo much for doing this interview. 🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video! That Mini race was amazing 😂❤️
Amazing interview. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed Clive xx
Just started watching your videos and clearly I’m a long way behind and a lot to catch up on😉 But they really are terrific sketches, in the way you present with such energy and enthusiasm..love it!! Anyway enough said and I need to get through your back catalogue 🤣
Great Vid, Jodie; content & production, alike. This vid popped up in my feed & am happy to subscribe. Glad to see you're on YT !
And yeah… Derek tasing ab the Father’s Day Race hit me. I remember watching the highlight reel, that year….
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the videos so far!
Gotta be the F1 to take home!! This episode is all class!! Wonderful!!
Thanks!
I really love your vids, Jodie. And Derek is such a nice guy! And very cool to see the Harrods 'tribute' cars lined up alongside the real deal!
Thanks!
What a terrific video - Jodie you absolutely nailed it! Derek is such a modest and self effacing man - it’s so nice to see such a hero talk like that - uplifting! This is a really great channel Jodie. Well done on another epic video.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks so much
