I watched this video last night. We've all heard to sit toward the back of our saddle in the canter, at some point, but I tried Leif's technique in my ride today and the difference it made in my horse's canter was actually shocking. She immediately became way more uphill, slowed down, and was lighter in the bridle. For a thoroughbred, it was a phenomenal canter and I could tell the extra engagement made her tired. Thanks for this absolute GEM.
I’ve been struggling so much sitting deep in canter, I watched this video and today was my first lesson where I really felt like I sat deep and was with the movement. I’m so grateful for this video - just wish I had an instructor like this near me!!!
I'm 66 years old and trying to relearn how to ride after 50 years, and REALLY STRUGGLING to get my canter seat! No one has explained it all this way. I'm so excited to try this! Thank you! 🙏🏻
This was such a great video. I rewatched it several times. Kudos to the rider for sharing these moments, as an adult rider, it makes you vulnerable to share when you’re learning! Thank you so much!! Great instructor 🎉 I’m following now!!!
Leif Your videos are transformative! I have been following Mary Wanless ......books and trying to get on one of her courses and your videos have been truly amazing with your visualisations being so spot on! Please keep doing them I only wish I could visit you in USA!
I just came across this video when I saw the word biomechanics. I completed an on line course Riding with Lightness, and had been enrolled in an online program with Mary Wanless. It was such a pleasure to watch your video and your explanations on seat, and position on canter. Totally appreciate your explanations of weighted aids and balance. I just subscribed to your channel. There are few trainers on the East Coast who train in this manner so I am looking forward to binge watching your videos. Thank you for sharing 😉.
Leif you are a brilliant mind….. this is a higher order process of learning and facilitation …… wow what intelligence….. I really enjoy these tutorials ….. they truely ring home with me 👌🏾love the passion and drive 👍🏾
I’ve been waiting for another biomechanics video with a student in a lesson!!! Thanks you!!! It’s so good to watch these videos as a student and instructor. Keep them coming
This is a gift to me, I am super interested in the bio mechanics for riding, watching these videos has enhanced my understanding, your visuals have made such a difference to my riding and more importantly my horses are more comfortable. Can’t wait for the next video
Leif I think a good word to use would be to scoop them up I love your metronome and the 123 example is perfect and I think the word to help you explain it would be something like scooped because that's what you're trying to get positioning signaling the rear engagement and opening of the forehand so like an ice cream scoop you kind of dig a little core and seat and then guided up to get the ice cream
I wish I had you there when I had my giant powerful PSG boy. He was amazing but exhausting!! I was doing 1000 crunches a day, plus pilates, cardio and weights just to build up my core to keep all 17'2'', extra wide tree Danish Warmblood beast together!! I'm learning so many helpful tips doing a sitting trot and canter on my kitchen chair!! lol I love these two, the rider is awesome and so funny and that horse is such a lovely mover and so sweet!! Awesome job by all of you!!! So much fun to watch! Thank you!!!
Great video I had to learn some of theese things without a trainer so i didn't know what was right and wrong just what felt right ... and that says something about how little trainers talk about this! thank you I learned more here than I have in years 😻😹🙀
She might be able to use a chiropractor sounds like a good adjustment would do that numbness some good and also thank you for having this particular video I was looking for something to help explain how to use the core and to push into and affect the stride so thank you very much for having this informative video
Sit bones back on 1 is brilliant. Such a better, more engaged canter. To prevent the rocking upper body in canter I think of being suspended from the ceiling, not grounded.
This video is really the gift that keeps on giving. every time i watch it learn something new

wow, what a great teacher, what a great lesson. A real gem, thanks for sharing.
Wow! I have subscribed as these are so informative to a novice rider! Have shared to friends to look at. Thank you so much 😃
What a great mare.
This is on point ! Very few videos are. I am. PT -
Fantastic. !
Wow! So much helpful information in this lesson. Cant wait to try it myself tomorrow! Thank you Leif!
Excellent video - great explanation
A fabulous exercise is for someone to push on your collarbone.
Thát pushes you downwards into the saddle!👌⭐⭐⭐
Really good explanation!👌⭐⭐⭐
Wow I love this guy’s instruction style!
I wonder if it would be advantageous to ask the rider to open and close the elbow hinge more? Leave the hands behind…
When you bear down, do you sustain that abdominal feeling with costant pressure or do you bear down and release on every step?
This trainer must be a student Mary Wanless?
