Thematic maps Navigational maps: used for navigation by airlines, ships etc. Topographic maps: They give the idea of topography like the altitude etc. Denser the dots, steeper the location. Sparser the dots, lesser slope of the elevation. General Reference maps: they are most widely and commonly used. They have two sub categories: a) Political maps (give the political boundaries, enmarking the names of places like districts, states, countries, continents etc.) b) Physical maps: They give the idea of the type of land like mountains etc, rivers forests etc. Thematic maps: A result of GIS(geographic information system), where the computer programs generate the maps, laying down the trends of different characteristics.
