Jon, or anyone else reading this, do you know of any Homekit-enabled plug that can sense when a lamp (or other appliance) has been turned on using its own switch and proceed to turn on the plug? I've converted from X10, which I used for about 40 years, to Homekit, and this was part of the design of all X10 plugs going back to the early days. I've been disappointed that it's not standard in smart plugs. If you turn a lamp off using an X10 signal to an X10 plug, you can turn it back on by turning its own switch off and back on. The main drawback is that, if you turn the lamp off using its own switch, you can't turn it back on with an X10 signal.
Just bought one of these on Amazon with discount £13.59. Based on your review so thanks. Using it for our living room fan, so easy to say hey Siri switch the fan on! Will use it for Halloween and for Christmas tree lights, so many uses. Keep up the good work.
I totally agree with Zane below. I bought a pair of these for £19 to "work" with my new Echo Dot. Set up was fine UNTIL, I tried to connect to my WiFi. I've since "discovered" that I have 5ghz WiFi and this (and, it seems all others) need 2.4 ghz. I'm no technophobe, but, going into the router settings to change things over, is a total hassle. So, I sent them straight back and ordered the proprietary Amazon brand, which worked straight out of the box,(as it was partly set up by Amazon, before delivery) although it's a bit too chunky, for my liking, although, nevertheless, it's a lot smaller than my manual timer plug that it's replaced.
Hi thank you for the review, Just wondering if Meross smart plug can be connected to modem at home and operate using mobile phone remotely from other city ? Tia
I have Teckin smart plugs and love them. Wanted a homekit smart plug so I picked up a Meross. Works great in home app, but doesn’t have scenes such as turning on a smart plug for x mins then auto cutting off like the teckin plugs do. Because of that, returned it and sticking wit teckin. But meross is great for basic use!
I'm having an issue with mine where it constantly says "updating" on the home kit app for about 20seconds before I can use it. Once it goes away, it works great, but the 20 seconds of updating generally comes back every 2 or so hours. My other Osram plugs are slower turning on and off (2-3 second wait), but never have that updating issue. and are more reliable in general. Why is this happening?
Was about to buy a couple more eves for the Christmas light and saw this....can’t be any good at that price surly.... low and behold HomeKit Authority has done a video with all the necessary information 👍🏽 So have ordered a couple 👌🏽
Thanks for the video, very nice, I have a question ,do you know any product with HomeKit, I need to open the lights With Siri and after 2 seconds automatically off, in this moment I use sonoff but it’s not working with HomeKit, thanks
There is a review on Amazon of a customer had bought one and it failed. He took it apart and the relay inside is only rated to 10A. DO NOT USE THIS WITH HEATERS. This smart plug is not rated to 13A. I have two of these smart plugs and only use these for lighting (table lamps, Christmas lights, LED strip, etc). Please be careful. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey, I'm just wondering if you can use these as timers. So schedule to come on and stop after a period of time without having to manually switch on and off using the app? Thanks in advance
Bought a 2 pack and neither of the plugs would connect to my phone. I suspect I got the wrong model, I am technically proficient and these would just repeatedly come up with "couldn't connect to accessory".
DO NOT BUY. Absolutely worst wifi plugs ever. Have spent hours trying to get plug back on to wifi network after they disconnect randomly. Hours and hours. I am more technical than most and followed their instructions. 2 of four would reconnect, the other two failed each time following exact same factory reset steps etc. DO NOT BUY.😠
Works well But I cannot find how to reset the power usage ?

Glad I could help! I also use a smart plug for my tree in the house!

Did you just link the aqara motion sensor to the the smart plug and no hub?. Thinking about this for Govee lights
If you plug your aqara g3 camera into this will it still allow access and automation via the aqara app or is it home/homekit app only? Thank you
Hi thank you for the review, Just wondering if Meross smart plug can be connected to modem at home and operate using mobile phone remotely from other city ? Tia
Do we need wifi or mobile net access is enough?
Just bought a double pack today! Thanks for the review.
If the main power shutdown ..any recover data again or need to reprogram from beginning?

Yes they do
can i use i with bluetooth?

Will it work if I was to plug multiple lights on to a extension cord that is plugged into the meross smart plug?
Can’t see why not :)

Did you have any issues with these plugs?

You might be able to create something like this in the eve app. But 2 seconds is very short
Does anyone know how to change the network this device is on when you move house

What’s the best HomeKit plug you have used? I have an eve and my second one that has stopped working and I want one that’s quick to respond.
Its a mix between Eve and Meross for me.
HomeKit Authority thanks. I’ve been trying to find the homekit merros plug for Australia but haven’t had any luck yet.
Hey, I'm just wondering if you can use these as timers. So schedule to come on and stop after a period of time without having to manually switch on and off using the app? Thanks in advance
Yes you can! But you would need to create 2 automations. One to turn it on at say 11am and another to turn it off at 11:30.
@@HomeKitAuthority perfect thank you and can I be out of the house for these automations to work?
do you have a HomeKit Hub such as a Apple TV or HomePod? If so then yes. What are you using it for?
@@HomeKitAuthority no I haven't I'm going to be growing gorment mushrooms so wanted to set up humidifier lights and fan etc... thank you
Yes, you will need a HomeKit hub for the automations to work when you are outside the home
Excellent review! Cannot believe the price!!!
I know! Buy one lol
what about their energy monitoring / history ?
none on this plug
i just bought one today so it looks great cant wait to use it
Good choice!
Refoss (rebadged Meross) 4 pack is only £27 on Amazon now.
I bought a pair of refoss plugs yesterday. They should hopefully arrive by friday
Doesn’t work with Alexa and you can’t add to the Meross device list on an iOS device. I use Alexa for virtually everything and this was a letdown
Bought a 2 pack and neither of the plugs would connect to my phone. I suspect I got the wrong model, I am technically proficient and these would just repeatedly come up with "couldn't connect to accessory".
Do they have the HomeKit logo on the box? And a HomeKit setup code on the plug?
HomeKit Authority Yeh, and the we code on the product
Qr code*
Plug it in, hold down the button on top to reset it. If that does not work then contact support
I’m trying to fit the house out with smart sockets rather than plugs.
I only know a UK supplier called Lightwave
HomeKit Authority yeah and They’re not that cheap really. £44.99 on amazon at present.
Do these work okay with extension cables? Or are they really made for just one device?
They work with extension cables if you want your entire extension cable turned on or off.
Been using one for about a month. So far seems pretty stable
Great for the price
None available via your uk link. Will have to look elsewhere. Good review though!
Hi john this looks pretty good I usually go for eve smart plugs I think I am going to give this a go !
It’s certainly a cheaper option. But Eve are rock solid
Ikea plug is £9.99 and works with Alexa, google and HomeKit. Also doesn’t bog down your Wi-Fi as it uses zigbee.
Aware, I reviewed it. It’s ideal if you have a Tradfri gateway. But if not that’s a added purchase
HomeKit Authority can you add the IKEA plug to the Hue hub?
Not that I have found. Could be wrong though
HomeKit Authority thank you.
Won't install as the server that the app connects to is offline. I'm not surprised they're cheap - £19.99 for three. Beware
19.99 for 3 three is not the HomeKit versions
open the what? and tap accessory... doesn't even tell you what app to download to connect to plug to, I'm still none the wiser
its a a HomeKit channel, so open the Home app
@@HomeKitAuthority I'm still none the wiser
Mines never came with the homekit sticker
It’s either not the HomeKit one or a faulty pack. Return it

Shame no energy monitoring!
Can’t beat the price though
I really enjoy your videos but i wish you would be more conscientious about using the trigger words or edit them out so as not to set off my devices.
Feedback taken, this is an old video and current ones don’t have trigger words now
